I just lost a showdown vs. Verlander starting at 8-15. 3 perfect/perfect outs, several good squared outs, Verlander painted the entire challenge with 0 mistake pitches in over 100 pitches.... Is this really how showdown is intended to play? That it's harder to complete than the last moments extreme from 19? Meanwhile you have to pay to attempt to complete it? Yeah, no thanks.
I just strolled through 3 AL West showdowns to get Gallo, faced Verlander every time and finished it with over 15 outs left all 3 times. You gotta draft smart and stack the good perks. Also load up your entire lineup with big bats, even at catcher and OOP, it doesn't matter since you don't pitch or play D.
How do you guarantee decent drafts? Half of my drafts have been with really, really bad options. Like the gold rounds having mostly starting pitchers and silver rounds with bat last fielders
Same. Im constantly given 3 pitchers and 1 bat each draft round in a game mode where you pitch maybe two meaningful at bats.
It shows after every showdown what the reward will be, either a batter or a pitcher and their respective tier. For the initial draft just look for offense exclusively and draft maybe 1 silver/bronze starter and 1 silver RP/CP
Not in the 1st inning one...
I don't remember exactly, I completed that a few days ago. I was talking about the AL West since that's the one I've been doing today. But either way what I said still applies, draft offense primarily, make sure you have 1 decent/good SP and 1 or maybe 2 good bullpen arms.

Yes, its quite obvious to focus on offense in a mode where you barely pitch.

The reality is, regardless of difficulty, all the cpu pitchers are very stingy with good pitches to hit. I lost to Kershaw too, but I was able to beat the AL west one vs Verlander. I definitely took a lot of pitches. At least one with RISP always.

And then you get 3 pitcher only rounds

It feels like moments from last year how a lot of them felt kind of harder even though they shouldn’t have been. But I’ve learned the strategy and started winning them now.
Completely agree. I usually play on All-Star and smash teams and am thinking of moving up to HOF. However Showdown seems either rigged or they need to fix something with the mode.

Sorry to state the obivious, just trying to help. I'm not the one struggling with these Showdowns.

Showdown is challenging. The team affinity is especially hard.
-
If you get a round with three pitchers and one batter who doesn’t fit the profile against the Boss pitcher...take the pitcher, even in the Hitting only mode. The CPU auto drafts the rest of your line up, doing the AL west I quite often get two or three of either Cargo Vogel Reddick or Santanaauto drafted who all hit righties decently well.
I’d also recommend passing on Diamonds that also have golds like Gallo Olsen or Correa, you can quite easily get them in a gold round and take a diamond you cant possibly get lower version of later like Rendon Trout or Bagwell.
-
Yeah, I'm not sure how some of you guys are having such an easy time with it. I mean, I did all the moments extremes of 19 and this feels just about as difficult. You get very very few easy balls to hit and you line-out A LOT in these challenges.
I'm also hitting into a million double plays that simply cannot be avoided. Like, if I'm in a full count and the pitcher dots it at the bottom of the zone I cannot get under the ball. That results almost exclusively into double plays...

Try and lift the ball and swing first pitch if it's there. You don't have to be patient and work counts in my experience. In fact, pitcher confidence applies here too so lead off with your biggest bats and try to hit XBH or homeruns early to get the confidence down, he'll start throwing more and more hittable pitches and you'll get good results with mediocre contact once the confidence is down.
-
Showdown is easy af until the last round. At that point you get screwed on perfect perfect and pitcher confidence totally dicks you or helps you. That’s why I never been a fan of it. The result of a good good or perfect perfect should not be determined by pitcher confidence. That ain’t baseball, you could be prime bob Gibson but if I smack the hell out of a fastball your level of confidence shouldn’t determine my result is fly out or a bomb If my swing is good enough

Yup, the issue is that exactly. The CPU is living on the black, I just do not get apt of good pitches to hire, though out the run. I haven't tried the division grinds, I've only done 1st inning, but I can honestly say I dont think I have ever hated something on a video game as much as I hate this. Probably have to go back to NES or something where the missions were insanely hard. It's why I stopped playing those games and play sports games. I hate this all or nothing where it takes hours to get through. If it didnt take hours of my time I'd probably be ok with it.

I am not a fan of the showdowns. I like that most are quicker than the moments however I dont like that if you dont complete most of them you might as well forfeit the whole thing because you will have too much of a hill to climb and just waste time. They should have kept the moments as the main way to get stars and have showdown in for additional ways to get stars or team affinity.
Show down seems to be like the storylines from 19
