Could this mean that we would get their cards as extra content this year, or will they save it for next year?
I would assume next year because since the classification change just happened, I would assume that SDS doesn't have the rights to any of those players and they would probably not waste their time or money getting those player's rights for a game that is this late in the game's cycle.
True.

Can you imagine all the epic World Series games if there was no segregation? I r sad now.

That ignores them making BLM a major talking point since June. Were that truly the case, they would have started the process back then.
Must-Haves:
Satchel
Gibson
Cool Papa Bell
Buck O'Neil -
Willie Mays true rookie year ( black barons I believe )

About time , Negro league players were far better than their white counterparts. MLB was minor leagues compared to Negro league if you thought about it.
It really intrigues me to think about some of these things. Would Babe Ruth be the player he is if the league he played in incorporated blacks?

It comes down to Quantity vs Quality. Negro Leagues had the top tier talent. White league ( MLB ) had the depth due to population size and ability to fund multiple minor league teams.
So to the point of Babe Ruth ... I would imagine he would still be a great player but not seen in the same light due to less accomplishments ( due to overall increased pitching talent ) and negro players doing as well as he did , perhaps even better.
-
I hope it will, all for diversity in any way, shape or form and I'd love to use some of this big names from the Negro Leagues. Side note, it's well overdue they're recognized as major leaguers too.
-
Dumb question. But were there MLB players of Hispanic descent in MLB before Jackie?

Ruth barnstormed all the time and played with and against Negro league players, to the ire of certain commissioners.
Many of his Negro league contemporaries said he was the best they had ever seen.

Rafael Almeida
Armando Marsans
1911MLB owners of the era didn't care so much about heritage as they did about skin color. So the Carlos Correas and Jose Altuves of the world would have had few if any issues while Acuna & Vlad wouldn't have been so lucky.

I don't know about this statement. Sure there were fantastic Negro League players, many of them mentioned in this thread. And there have been many awesome black players since Jackie Robinson: Aaron, Gibson, Griffey, etc. But if what you’re saying was true, wouldn’t the current MLB be dominated by black players the way the NFL and NBA are? Now if you lump in Hispanics with the Negro Leagues you may have a point.
Obviously this is a very slippery slope to debate about. I am in no way arguing any sort of white supremacy and I hope nobody takes it that way.

I think you provided the answer yourself. I think many young black athletes who excel in athletics usually excel in more than one sport. The NBA and NFL are far more desired destinations because they pay better and the path to a good pay check is way shorter. Nobody wants to play years in the minor leagues, 1 injury away from never making it to the bigs. There have been plenty of examples of guys who chose the NBA or the NFL over a career in baseball for that reason alone, not even mentioning the fact that football and basketball are considered "sexier" than baseball. I have no doubt in my mind that some NBA or NFL super athletes would be all-star level MLB players IF they had dedicated their lives to playing baseball from their early 20s.

The reduction of number of Black players is due to funding. A lot of great articles out there about why diminishing numbers. Has nothing to do with talent.
If you think about it , MLB and why less black players mirrors a lot of today issues with minority poverty and opportunities

I'm pretty sure the the MLB pays the best but beside that the rest of that is correct.

Nope, per year averages , NBA pays the best , due in part to playing at Major level at younger age. Top level players are paid 40+ mil a year in NBA and every team had one or multiple. The few teams that don’t have one , other teams have 2. Lol the Pirates whole payroll is less than 2 NBA players on some teams.
So yeah , emphatically, you are wrong.
-
Just checked. MLB average salary is a smudge under 4 mil. NBA average salary is over 10 million. So yeah , wayyyyyyy wrong.
Google is your friend.

Okay. I did no major research on this but it just seems that when a lot of pro athletes get interviewed about money they joke about how they should have went with baseball. Plus the fact that there is no salary cap but I guess if you have actually researched this then thanks for clarifying that.
