Why you should be using 2020 PoTM Aldaberto Mondesi
-
He may in fact be the best card in the game. Of course this is strictly based on my own opinion and experience so others will vary, but I am a firm believer in the above statement. The only player whom I believe may be better offensively is Griffey and or Mantle.
Here are some reasons...
- 99 speed, 99 stealing.
If you haven't discovered it yet, speed is one of the most important attributes in this game next to power. If you're a scrub like me, you also understand how effective bunting is in this game. 7 stolen bags in RS in 7 attempts, he's basically standing on second the moment he reaches first.
- 125/125 vs LHP.
Swinging over .600 for me (and im not even bunting) the power mondesei brings to the table serves two purposes. 1 being the long dong. The second being...
- Vs RHP, auto shift plays defense deep
You can hit bloopers for days with a contact swing and Mondesei's 60 power vs rhp. This also serves as a counter to...
- Baiting and beating the bunt defense.
With his incredible speed many people assume auto bunt vs rhp, which is completely justified considering his bionic legs. But with the combination of 60 power, deep defense, 2b in, the right side has a hole so big, even the largest of men can't occupy this space.
- Gold defense at 2B
Since SS is going to always be occupied by Trevor Story, Mondesei can provide elite defense at 2B thanks to his incredible speed.
Try him out if you havent.
UPDATE
I firmly believe him to be the best card in the game. Since I posted this I am still hitting over .500 with him. A lot of players I am facing use the auto shift and play very deep. My average vs RHP is around .600 while vs LHP is around .400, very few AB vs LHP unfortunately.
Absolutely the best card in the game and a perfect lead off hitter. Bloop singles followed by Trout blasts for days.

I wouldn't go so far as saying the best card in the game, but he's incredible. I'm not a good hitter and I'm hitting over .350 with him with 6 HR in under 60 AB. One of those HR was a contact swing on an 0-2 count from the left side. I did move him to the bench though and am starting Morgan at 2b currently. Morgan has 4 HR for me already in less than 15 AB, so I'm going with Morgan leadoff and then subbing him in immediately VS a lefty. Feels like a really good platoon.

99 Seager would like a word. Had a 5 home run game with him last night. Best card in the game.

I'm running him at 3b now. Finest Lindor at SS and platooning Finest Freeman/Machado at 1b.

When you platoon, say you have Freeman in your lineup, do you immediately pull him if the pitcher is a lefty? If so, doesn’t that remove a bench player for you so early in the game?

Yeah but how many bench bats do you even use in a game? I’ve rarely ever had to use more than 2

Good point! When they took away handedness in the matchup screen, it made me a much better left on left hitter. I really only use bench bats as pinch hitters for the pitcher. Now if they would bring back handedness, I’d use waaaaay more bench bats cuz I would platoon more often. They made so many cards absolutely useless when they took that away. Most people myself included won’t even touch them. Cards like Grandy, Choo etc.

Generally yes. If I get out to a quick lead before he hits, I may leave Freeman in hoping they go to a righty in the pen first. I also usually carry another option for 1b on my bench too. First base seems to be my position I'm most willing to make a sub. If I switch to Machado and they go righty later, then I may have prestige Belli on my bench that I'm comfortable vs lh or rh pitching.

You have to marvel at the opponent that thinks those first four dingers were flukes and still gave you another hittable pitch.

I agree with you on Mondesi. He has been my MVP but I have mostly been playing games on AS. Last season I made it to high 7's and I'm in the 7's again and while I havn't noticed a difference, there are those who say the low vision hurts on HOF. At this point I have no idea what anything does in this game. I only use th einner PCI and havn't really noticed much of a difference.
Contact does become an issue on HOF though. For example, I love J-Ram, but his sub 100 contact against righties has me looking for infield replacements. Maybe move Tatis there as I'm currently having tryouts with Mookie, Anderson and Story.

I probably have less in more than 50 at bats... checking now.

I hate his swing.

Real question here is, do you use Awards or Finest Trevor Story?

What's the old saying "Speed don't slump".
-
What's up with his stealing though? I've been thrown out 9 times in 25 attempts, even by Foxx a couple times... 99/99 should be to the base before foxx even gets the throw past the mound
