Does Jimmy Rollins have any serious HOF chances?
-
I love J-Roll but he strikes me as a Hall of Very Good type of player. BUT, when you compare his stats to other HOF shortstops, he's right up there with some of the best all-time.

Oof. Thanks for sending me off on a half-hour long baseball-reference dive. My best guess? Probably not. At least at first. I tend to think of him as you do; Hall of Very Good. That being said, it wouldn't make me as mad as say...Harold Baines getting in. Plus I think his timing is going to kill him on the ballot the first few years.

Career OPS+ is 95. Only topped 100 (barely) in 6 or 7 seasons. He was a good fielder, good on the base paths, decent enough at hitting to remain a starter. I think hes a good player, but definitely not a HOFer

Jay BellHis #s may look good on a cursory glance, but he did play his career during the friendliest offensive era in the history of the game.
Most likely a Veteran's Committee pick in 30 years or so.

I think he ends up in the Hall at some point but not during his initial 10 years on the ballot. He has an MVP and a World Series Ring so his name is not likely to get lost from the memory of those who watched him play during his prime

I’m a Rollins fan but I say no. He was extremely good, but not HOF.

The Showstorian is 100% correct.
J-Roll making the hall is unlikely. Can he get in as a Veteran's Committee pick that happens to have former Phillies on it (ala Harold Baines)? Yes.
Otherwise, the outcry outside of Philadelphia (if any) will be non-existent.But like @BlackSoxDown mentioned, his career qualifies for the Hall of Very Good.
Fun player to watch, Great at times, but not a Hall of Famer. -
