When LeBron James stops making his shoes in China, while making millions and millions off of slave labor.. When they start standing up for the atrocities in China that they completely ignore to make more money there while China actually has concentration camps they should probably stop acting like they're on some moral high ground.

I do. There would obviously be a change but in the end could be just as profitable and popular. If they want change, money might be one thing that may have to be sacrificed. And let’s be honest these athletes and actors should not be making the money that they do but that’s another conversation

There's a lot of truth there... The elite have proven that they are not useful in a year like 2020. Those who kept our infrastructure going... and all the other low paid heroes absolutely. What we really need are professional negotiators to create the changes we need to better come together as a nation, because the politicians we have are why things have been out of whack for too long. I am sure the overpaid actors and athletes will help fund because they want change too, right?

Dude SDS put up stuff in support for BLM in the game. No way you'll get banned. Now maybe if you did the opposite there could be a ban, but its pretty clear where they stand.

I felt firsthand the impact of the players sitting out: My friend texts me, “Hey, do you know why all the games are cancelled?” I responded, “Yes, Jacob Blake.” Later he texts, “[censored] man, I just read up on it. Sucks.”
This is just one person, but I have to imagine that this is happening on a much more global scale and is the reason they take such actions. If they hadn’t, my friend may have never had the will to learn about the current events.

If the athletes wanted real change then they would do ride alongs with officers and make suggestions on police reform. All sides of the arguments are in favor of police reform. They used to do this until the ride along's starting changing the minds of the people doing the protests. Anyways i get where you are coming from but don't agree with your overall premise.

I hear you man. Definitely seems like an insurmountable task and if money is at the forefront than thats on players. How BIG of a statement would it be for say Patrick Mahomes to cut his check up and say no thanks guys im good. I cant play ball while their unrest in my community. And for people to think he wont make millions without football is just silly. He will be fine

Because his dad made millions playing baseball. MAYBE 5% of players come from independently wealthy families.
The other 95% came from nothing and don't have their parent's nest egg to fall back on. They're all still on rookie and UDFA contracts making (relatively) next to nothing.

yes thats why its not they're job to make that statement. We need the likes of Brady, Mahomes, or Wilson etc.. who will be fine without football. Plenty of other opportunists for revenue for a star that big

The fact that all they focus on is police brutality and police reform is a little mind boggling. There has to be accountability on all sides. No doubt about it that those that are put in charge of law and order need to have the very best training and be held to a higher standard, but to Totally ignore the other side of things and paint all Police as bad loses a lot of people. These athletes, and I don't blame them because its not their responsibility to "fix" the seemingly unfixable, will get on a stage and say some words and then go right back to their luxurious lives in their gated communities. While the real world continues to spin. Spending time and effort on police reform, or the craziness of de-funding police, literally does nothing at all to stop crime from happening. They need to spend equally as much time going into these areas where crime is happening most and do what they can to help people out mentally, physically, and financially so that they feel they have options. Lebron needs to use his platform for more than fanning the flame too. He spends a lot of time and money helping people, but then goes and hurts them mentally by acting as if police and white people are hunting black people. Creates a massive mistrust and divide among people, and it is just blatantly not true.

But if they make that statement, what happens to (picks a name out of a hat) Jody Forster?
A 2nd year player out of Valdosta State still on a practice squad contract. If Mahomes/Brady/Wilson and their class sits out, the league shuts down. Players like Forster have nowhere to go, no alternate methods of promotion/opportunies like the others, and no vast fortune to fall back on. And if/when the league would ever restart, he's replaced in a heartbeat by a younger, hungrier rookie.
Players on the Elite Tier might think they're helping by shutting everything down. But really, all they're doing is hurting players like Forster. And there's EXPONENTIALLY more Forsters in the league than there are Mahomes, Bradys and Russells.

My man I love it. You are exactly right. They need to have that uncomfortable conversation within they're own communities as well and not just turn a blind eye. I love the fact of police working with them and trying to figure out solutions instead of tearing it all down

I mean The Reds and Brewers didn't play Wednesday, they played 2 games on Thursday. That did nothing to hurt baseball or the ownership of those teams, you know rich white guys. So sort of like what the OP is saying to really have effect you need to protest the entire season, making up the games do not really make a difference.
Anyway, that is my two cents, i don't know how these things look in more liberal areas of the country, all i see is this red county in a purple state. I hope to see change in my lifetime, but i do not have high hopes, in my 40+ years we as a nation are only dividing more and not coming together.

Then the players will have to get jobs like the rest of us "normal people". Money shouldn't be your motivation for good morals and some of these athletes/actors/politicians are guilty of this. We will have baseball without MLB bet my life on it

Ahmaud Arbery was hunted by white people. Elijah McClain was harassed by police while walking and listening to music. He died from that encounter. Officers even posed for smiling pictures later that night.
Those are a couple off the top of my head from recently that give a justifiable fear to some.
