man I just put together a long post talking about my feelings on social justice and how to spread awareness. And how I felt about the shooting in WI. But just before I posted it I was sent to a page that said that I didn't have access to this site. Figured I best leave my opinions out before I get banned for them.
I feel you man. Iβm glad your putting your thoughts out there. The uncomfortable conversations need to happen

That's just it when I went to put my thoughts out there I was sent to a "don't have access to this page" site. So I really couldn't. Anyways. The basic idea is play for a cause and donate proceeds from those events to a cause vs sitting out and only drawing attention for not playing. $ is what makes this world go round and if you want to move something you need to throw more $ at it. Just talking about something doesn't get it moving.
Exactly man well said. I think the owners really need to step up and help make change. Those guys can make a difference they have deep pockets and know people. Be standing helping protect their players

Bro your killing me. I thought my OCD was bad lol -
MLB needs to step up and cancel all games.

Playing Games isn't as important to owners as making $. If they really want to show they care then can take a portion of what they make from games and donate to causes. They can create a program that will encourage positive production such as "points for a cause" where for every basked scored the club and any other companies that the NBA can convince to participate can donate a $ amount. Players can do something similar or choose to donate a portion of their salary for each game played. The problem is that teams saying they are not going to play has a bigger "shock value" than promoting programs that will actually bring money towards the cause. So guess what they decide to go with the "shock value" approach rather then to do something that will actually give to the cause. Awareness is great but Action is better.

Itβs going to hurt the pockets of the people that need to feel it the most
Uh ... what?!? WHAT?!?
It's going to hurt the players, the teams and the leagues. Give people a reason to tune out and they will never come back.
Want to "use your platform"? Play. If you're not playing, you don't have a platform and no one will listen to you.

I know Iβll get banned for this but just wanted to say Iβm glad theyβre not playing sports. I hope they keep up the boycott honestly. Itβs going to hurt the pockets of the people that need to feel it the most. I love sports but right now I DO see how it takes away from whatβs actually going on in the world with racial and social injustice. Itβs not a good distraction anymore, for me anyway. Just doesnβt feel right enjoying it. Peace and love guys stay safe
I donβt need sports, deployed while serving my country three times. Didnβt watch sports. -

Agree with you but I donβt think itβs that simple. The NBA needs stars to be popular and relevant. NBA players can do like Ice Cube did with Big 3 and easily make revenue cause people would rather watch lebron and kawhi on street courts than some scrubs in the NBA. Obviously it would take time but its still basketball.

Not quite sure you recognize the difference between the NBA's revenues and Big 3.
LeBron would have to take a 98% pay cut. So ... no.

When LeBron James stops making his shoes in China, while making millions and millions off of slave labor.. When they start standing up for the atrocities in China that they completely ignore to make more money there while China actually has concentration camps they should probably stop acting like they're on some moral high ground.

I do. There would obviously be a change but in the end could be just as profitable and popular. If they want change, money might be one thing that may have to be sacrificed. And letβs be honest these athletes and actors should not be making the money that they do but thatβs another conversation

That is a fair point sir

There's a lot of truth there... The elite have proven that they are not useful in a year like 2020. Those who kept our infrastructure going... and all the other low paid heroes absolutely. What we really need are professional negotiators to create the changes we need to better come together as a nation, because the politicians we have are why things have been out of whack for too long. I am sure the overpaid actors and athletes will help fund because they want change too, right?

Dude SDS put up stuff in support for BLM in the game. No way you'll get banned. Now maybe if you did the opposite there could be a ban, but its pretty clear where they stand.
-
I felt firsthand the impact of the players sitting out: My friend texts me, βHey, do you know why all the games are cancelled?β I responded, βYes, Jacob Blake.β Later he texts, β[censored] man, I just read up on it. Sucks.β
This is just one person, but I have to imagine that this is happening on a much more global scale and is the reason they take such actions. If they hadnβt, my friend may have never had the will to learn about the current events.

I get your sentiment but protesting themselves isn't going to do anything. It's not a real protest. As soon as they were told they would lose money they came right back. If the athletes wanted real change then they would do ride alongs with officers and make suggestions on police reform. All sides of the arguments are in favor of police reform. They used to do this until the ride along's starting changing the minds of the people doing the protests. Anyways i get where you are coming from but don't agree with your overall premise.

I hear you man. Definitely seems like an insurmountable task and if money is at the forefront than thats on players. How BIG of a statement would it be for say Patrick Mahomes to cut his check up and say no thanks guys im good. I cant play ball while their unrest in my community. And for people to think he wont make millions without football is just silly. He will be fine

Because his dad made millions playing baseball. MAYBE 5% of players come from independently wealthy families.
The other 95% came from nothing and don't have their parent's nest egg to fall back on. They're all still on rookie and UDFA contracts making (relatively) next to nothing.

yes thats why its not they're job to make that statement. We need the likes of Brady, Mahomes, or Wilson etc.. who will be fine without football. Plenty of other opportunists for revenue for a star that big
