Sig Series Greg Maddux

He's unusable on AS. But he's alright on HOF+.
-
He can be very hittable by mediocre players (ie. me) once you've seen his pitches for a couple innings.

I do well with Maddux, just a matter of mixing up his stuff, painting the corners, and being unpredictable. That's pretty much any pitcher without a 96+ mph fastball though.
Yep, you just gotta know how to pitch with him. I can't tell you how many people have flailed when throwing his curve ball in the dirt and then a high sinker. 39 games, 3.18 ERA, 76 K's, 27 wins
-
User error going on here. Sure he is no Orel, but he isnt trash. Like someone said, his sinker isnt the spam high type, pitch like he did, use horizontal movement to paint corners, change speeds, get your opponent so focuses on offspeed low you sneak 4 seam high right by.

I agree, I don't get lit up, even on all star using Maddux. You have to paint corners and mix it up. If you can light me up by hitting my cutters on the hands, fastballs on the edges and changeups breaking off the table followed by a 67 mph curveballs that float like turds in the swimming pool then good for you.
-
I bought him today and pitched his first game on HOF. Ended up with a CG, 4ER. Guy I played hit the first pitch he saw for a HR then didn’t score again until late in the game. Once I figured out his delivery timing, I was cruising. As others have said, he’s not like most of the other good SPs, you can’t overpower people, you have to mix pitches and paint the corners. I’ve played against guys who use him well and he can be a pain in the [censored] to face. Hopefully his next start is a repeat of today!
-
I've been using Maddux on the event to work on prestiging him. Its allowed me to figure out his pitches as well.
You have to start offspeed. Cutters to the outside corner and going away are hard for people to square up or make good contact.
Curveball that just touch the bottom of the zone to make sure opponents know you can hit it for a strike as well as obviously at their ankles. It moves alot and is hard to time up. Sprinkle it in with the circle change low as its about 8-10 mph faster.
Then use the occasional fastball. Even at 93-95 it feels way faster after alot offspeed and I've blown it past people more than a few times.
-
His sinker on hof looks faster than dibbles fastball I can’t figure out why
-
2nite special G.Mad v me AS inside cut and FB game over can confirm usable in AS TY Ggs.

No he’s better than Orel, and if you think Orel is better go ahead spam those high sinkers to me and see what happens with them. Smh at the most stupid garbage you read in these forums

I agree with OP can’t even throw strikes with him. And the circle change always floats to the middle of the plate for HR..

Oh god no, i dont spam any pitch. But i can do all the same things with Orel that i can with Maddux, but you can throw the sinker anywhere with Orel, you cant throw it high with Maddux, so you can actually work off the FB with Orel, where you have to pitch backwards with Maddux. Fo that reason i have more success with Orel than with Maddux. If you say he is better, you are in the minority in that OPINION
-
Problem is he's to slow! This years game hitting is way overpowered compared to pitching! Curveball suck! Cutters are hit or miss! Most change ups will hang! So maddux is just to slow! Walter johnson would be amazing if he had a slider or cutter! But he doesn't! Pitching just sucks this year! And I'm sorry but its boring just throwing alot of sinkers all game ! I like fun pitchers to use!

The point I’m making is that it completely subjective. Orel doesn’t have a 4 seamer for his 98 FOTF card so his pitch mix is limited. You can literally sit on the sinker and adjust to everything else. Maddux has the 4 seamer and a cutter to compliment his sinker. His peripherals are better as well (break, speed differences, and several others). And most people haven’t unlocked Maddux prestige which is going to give him a bump in all cats. So while it’s a subjective argument my opinion is based on the aspects which are not subjective and those are his overall attributes. On top of all that Maddux tunnels pitches better than anybody in the game which makes his pitch mix that much more effective. I know I can read every pitch out Orel’s hand. But I also am big on reading release points too. If a pitcher can tunnel his pitches you’re going to give me problems.

Yes, it is subjective, hence my word opinion.
I use Orel's sinker the same as a 4 seam and blow it by guys. As a batter high sinkers are not as effective on me as they are others, because i drop my PCI all the time, so i end up crushing them. I have faced people who are the same way. But most people see high think 4 seam and end up on top of sinker. But i dont use Orel's sinker to drop into the zone, because he doesn't have a 4 seamer. I use his sinker for the lateral movement, so my opponent has to worry about if it is a cutter or a sinker, so left or right. Maddux sinker is slower and drops more than orels, so it is easier to pick up the difference. I also hit Maddux better, but my weakness is more about trying to catch up to heat.
Both pitchers are extremely effective if used correctly and i have a lot of success with both, i have more with Orel. I also have more success with FotF Smoltz than many and Burnett more than Wood.
Its like i always say as bad as card recommendations are for hitters, because some cards hit differently for different people, pitchers are even worse, because if you know how to pitch, you can have success with about any card. And if you run into the right player you can have no success with any card.
