Why should I get mantle
-
Because Mantle is the best player in the game, Sheffield is a top hitter in the game and Biggio is a 90 speed catcher, then you also get stubs back and a ton of xp
-
Don't get me wrong, he is seriously an amazing card and I feel spoiled for taking him out of my lineup, but man... there are so many elite OFs now that he isn't a "must-have" anymore, in my opinion.
Personally, I prefer these players:
- Andre Dawson
- Ken Griffey Jr.
- Gary Sheffield
- Cody Bellinger
- Mike Trout
... and then there's guys like Eric Davis, Larry Walker, Giancarlo Stanton, George Foster, and a few others that I'm forgetting that in a small sample size have been absolute monsters. It's one of those things where if it won't bug you to not have it done, then don't. He's absolutely one of the best cards in the game but since he isn't from my generation, I downgrade him a bit.
-
I think what I might do is just go after him slowly by setting a stub amount like 700k where I don’t go under that amount when I’m buying stuff for mantle so then I’ll always have stubs for the new content I want
-
I'd get him. Playing with the best card in the game is part of the fun imo.
-
Because you’re finishing a collection. The basis of DD is card collecting...
-
plus with going after mantle you add 3 additional cards to the larger collection (prime, awards, signature)
-
Everyone has him it seems. Be different and have a unique lineup
-
Trust me bro I was in your spot too had over a mil and wasn’t gonna do the collections.. but then I’m like man idk what to do with my stubs and I was to complete something in the game and I just did it.. I already got all my stubs back and mantle is easily my best player! And if you want to go for the bonus collection you get a big boost with that too it’s wellllll worth it trust me

Yeah like I said before now I’ll do part at a time so I have stubs for new content still and what’s the point in having stubs you won’t use

I did it and am regretting it.
Yes he is the best player in the game; but I'm thinking I could've waited awhile to get him.
So many possible CFers available now.

why regret getting him ? the earlier you get the best player in the game the longer you have him for the games life cycle.

i I have one card left to get and then I will have Mantle. I did not rush to get him, i should have him by the end of this upcoming weekend. I been able to use the Mantle Card in stage 3 showdowns, be far the best card in the game. Stubs are easy to get back

I got him yesterday. Rough start in his first game but I'm sure he'll settle in for me.
To OP: The reason to get mantle is like most people said, he's the best card in the game. 5 tool player that is also a switch hitter. But ultimately it is personal preference. If you can find a non-Mantle lineup that you do well with, spend your stubs elsewhere.
If nothing else, completing collections (As also mentioned earlier) will add any number of card types to use towards the big collection reward which is coming out soon. In previous years you needed a certain amount of Sig, Rookie, Allstar, Vet, Breakouts etc....this year likely include the need for Awards and Prime cards as well.
I'm fairly confident they won't require a HRD/POTM/Player league cards for this but you never know.

The longer you hold off from completing the less value mantle holds. He isn’t the best player in the game by a mile anymore. I completed him less than a month in and have him prestiged

Because I am so far behind in completing the dtages for TA. One of the 3 that I have completed to the end of Stage 3 is the Yanks.
So any grinding that needs down towards the other teams won't include Mantle.
I've had him for a little over a month and gave played maybe a handful of H2H wirh him.
I've even started over on a new acct, and have been playing on that acct the past week.
I think I would've been better off using the stubs towards TA exchanges. I spent about 600K on the cards I needed for Mantle and that 600K probably wouldve got me to Stage 3 of all 30 teams.

That's the part I didn't expect. I finally got Mantle, but I also have a new RF (Sheffield) and C (Biggio).
