Monitor Difference

I got a monitor tonight. And it's insane how slow the pitches are coming in on showdown. Fastballs look like change ups, and curves look like knuckle balls. I assume it's not like that on RS. Haven't tried it yet

Well the biggest difference is input lag. But depending on how old your tv was/is, those specs between the two can be pretty close. Most monitors have about 8-10ms of input lag while newer tv’s in game mode can be 15-20ms. I think having a smaller screen can be helpful by having you focus more on the incoming pitch.
Newer TVs in game mode are approx 9-10ms... Got a 65" LG at Target for $700 last year and its just under 10ms. Buddies of mine have picked up other similar input lag TVs.
A good monitor is <1ms.
No monitor has input lag specs that low. You are confusing it with response time. That is usually 1ms or slightly higher depending on the monitor panel.

This is correct, response time is a marketing term and the true input lag of these 1ms response time monitors is somewhere between 10-15ms.

Ha! Look at that! My bad!

Finally purchased a BenQ 24 inch. Saw talks on here awhile back about the difference it makes to play on a monitor, and was wondering what experiences you guys have had. What makes it better than playing on my 65 inch TV? Prolly a little late to ask haha but needed a monitor for work anyways!
Thanks
BenQ is the best!

I’ve never used a monitor, but when 20 came out I was out of town for work and brought my PS4 to the hotel. I don’t know what TVs they had there but the difference from my home tv was insane, I went 12-0 in ranked and felt like I had months to gauge what pitch was coming in. I’ve seriously thought about calling the hotel to see what tv they had lol. Granted this was at release when hitting was ridiculously easy, but I felt like it was a massive difference from my home tv

Incorrect. The 1 ms is response time, not the input lag spec, which is what is most relevant.
As pointed out above, the better input lag will help you with timing but the pci placement is still up to you.

Believe it or not ive had a hard time adjusting to a monitor, pitches come in so slowly sometimes i end up early as hell or memorized thinking i have more time than i do and end up late cuz im not actually used to seeing the ball so clearly lol.
I still have that problem, and have had a monitor since AUGUST of 2019. It's driving me crazy. I have no idea how to fix this problem.

Unless you are streaming on twitch making money playing this game it baffles me so many of you sacrifice playing on a tv, chillin back to sit 2 feet away from a monitor. To each their own
Winning is everything.

Does it not have sound capabilities? I’ve been fooling with it for the last hour or so and can’t seem to figure out the volume!

They don’t have built in speakers, you can use external or headphones. You don’t want a monitor with speakers anyway, they always stink.

Thanks for the advice! How do I use headphones? Is there a port on the monitor?

There should be on the left side

I bought a 27' MSI monitor a few weeks ago. The biggest difference I've seen so far is the ability to recognize pitches better. I have a 1MS response time, and my refresh rate is 165. I don't have the lag that I had on my TV. (at least not as often) I still suck, but that's because I suck playing H2H, but I've noticed I've been playing better since I got the monitor.
Same thing was happening to me I was having problems on a TV picking up pitches, now that I'm using the monitor I can see everything better and I'm getting on pitches better than I was
-
Only spent a few hours playing today, but man what a difference!
-
Are y’all using HDMI or DVI? Not at home so I don’t know if my PS4 pro has a dvi port even but I know my monitor does lol

Yeah its definitely a weird problem, been thinking of going back to my tv lol

Yep, I got an Asus and the sound (without headphones) is really bad. I was kind of shocked how bad. But they probably don’t put much time into that because most people use headphones.
I was thinking about putting up a thread with my early thoughts on getting a monitor and asking others if they have any tips/tricks. Overall, I like it a lot. Again the natural speaker sound isn’t great and I kind of miss sitting back on my couch.

For regular videogames, I agree sitting on a couch is much better. But this game, or any game you want to be competitive in requires heightened attention which is way better at a desk.
