Buying a monitor

Input lag isn’t the same as response time though, right? All I see are listed response times. Don’t see input lag. Did a little research earlier to learn a little more what is needed. I have a standard PS4. I know I don’t need anything more than 1080p and 60 hz
If you plan on getting a PS5 at some point I would do better than 60hz.

100% true. Further, if you might use the monitor for PC gaming you will need to consider your graphics card capabilities (such as gsync) and make sure your monitor can support them.
A great resource:

"To clarify, input lag is the delay between the display and your commands such as a press on the keyboard or mouse. Response time, on the other hand, is the time pixels take to change from black to white, or from one shade of gray into another"

You will want low input lag, primarily. If the monitor is only being used for a standard PS4, theres no reason to overpay for high refresh rates or fetures like gsync capability. PS4 only supports 60hz refresh rate. (note that ps5 will have dramtically improved video specs, and will require more out of monitors).
It is worth noting that good gaming monitors are often stripped down and CHEAPER than other monitors. Don't be tricked into overpaying. High end monitors sometimes add a lot of image processing, use slower/prettier screen materials and you end up with worse input lag at a much higher price. For fighting games, I use a $120 BenQ and it crushes my $600 computer monitor.
BenQ often have great low input lag options, and it would be good to stick at 1ms. This topic is very, very complicated but there's no value to go all the way down the rabbit hole if you aren't a gear geek. Instead, I can just say that I got this for about 250 on amazon, and I'm happy:
BenQ ZOWIE RL2755T 27 inch
Any recommendations on what can give me the Zowie performance today on my ps4 pro, yet give me optimal performance later when the ps5 drops? I'd rather spend more now and not have to deal with it again.
This is what I just got about 3 weeks ago. Best thing I've done in a long time.
Mind you, I'm 47 so reflexes aren't what they used to be and I had been playing on my Sony TV and an old 6 year old HP monitor as well.

$170 bucks 1ms response time. Have had mine for a few weeks. It’s pretty great.
Also has built in speakers if you don’t want to use headphones all the time.
It’s definitely one of the top 3 monitors on the market under $500. Definitely do your research. After a couple of days of looking this is what I decided on. Good luck!

So input lag is different than response time. I don’t see input lag listed in specs when I search, say, Best Buy.
Have the specs for the PS5 been released yet?

Yes, because often their response time looks better than their input lag and they hope you aren’t informed enough to know. Display lag tests the real performance for you, great site.
Ps5 specs are partially known. Good link:

Just like Vox_Pestis posted... If it's strictly for PS4 I think the only choice is the BenQ ZOWIE RL2755T. That's if you're looking for best performance. As far as a PS5 monitor, I would probably wait till we know more about exactly what it can do. The BenQ ZOWIE RL2755T is cheap enough that you can pick one up and not be so invested that you can't get another monitor when PS5 drops. This is obviously my opinion... But I've tried them all and the BenQ was the best performing monitor imo.

I know there's been plenty of talk on here about monitors and what to look for, but I was hoping to consolidate that information into one thread. So, if I was interested in a decent monitor (enough to make a difference) what am I looking for? What specs does it need? How much, generally, should I expect to have to spend? Why buy a monitor for a BROKEN game the fielding is broke the pitching is broke the batting is broke

Why buy a monitor this game is broken the fielding BROKEN hitting BROKEN pitching BROKEN

Cmon man, there’s no reason for this post. this is a good thread with good information for people. former threads helped me choose a good monitor and it has been great to increase my gameplay. You don’t need to come on here and ruin it. Yes the gameplay currently has issues, but this is just a ignorant post and takes away from the point of the thread. Air your issues out somewhere else.

So, I delayed for a while and now getting back into it and plan to buy a monitor soon. Really, I'm looking at probably 2 different ones. My wife works for Best Buy, so that's a nice discount there. Anyway, wondering if someone can help me out because I can't make up my mind on the two I'm looking at and whether it's worth it to get the more expensive one.
So, the two models are Acer. Not that I don't like the others, but these seem good for the price. They are both 27" since I think I like something bigger than the 24" cheap ones. Here's one problem I have, I've done a lot of research on all the specs and everything and you can't find input lag numbers on most monitors (at least the ones Best Buy sells). I REALLY wish I could find input lag numbers but I can't. So here's what I'm looking at:
A 27" Acer (model KA272 BI). It has a 1 ms response time, and 75hz refresh rate. One HDMI port. It's the standard 1920x1080 and it's got the AMD freesync with an IPS panel. Again, I can't find the input lag specs on it, but I figure it's probably plenty good enough for me.
The other is 27" Acer Nitro (Model XV272). It has the same 1 ms response time but 144hz refresh rate. Two HDMI ports with the standard 1920x1080 and the AMD freesync with IPS. Again, I can't find the input lag specs. But again, I'm assuming pretty good. On one website it has the Nitro XV273 as the best buy for PS4. Not sure how close these are as the XV272 and XV273.
The price difference is $90. Now, I know the max refresh rate for the PS4 is 60hz. The max refresh rate for the PS5 is going to be 120hz. I know there's no way that I'll get the PS5 right away. Sounds like they're calling about a $500-600 opening price. No way I do that. But I figure someday I'll make the switch. Unless I'm mistaken (and there's likely some other small details) the only difference is the refresh rate from 75 to 144 and one more HDMI port for $90. Is it worth it? Are there any others out there less than $300 that are better?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I spent a bunch of time researching these and at the end of the day I found an rl2755 on craigs for $100.
On your topic tho, I'd certainly spend a little more and get a monitor that will support the fps of the ps5. I won't be spending $500 on a ps5 either... But if there's a gamestop trade in deal 6 months down the road and I'm getting it for $300 or less after trade, that's a different story.
If you just want a 1080 144hz monitor, the MSI e sports monitors (g271) look solid and costs $240 at bh (currently oos but available to order)

Thanks for the input. What I wonder, if I buy the 75hz and later upgrade to the PS5, and I going to be way behind other people that have the 120hz capability of the PS5, or will I not even be able to notice? Really wish we could find input lag numbers for all of these. There’s a website that shows some they’ve tested but it seems out of date and doesn’t have any of the models I’ve researched.

I had an Asus VG245h and recently upgraded to the VG279q. Good specs, bigger screen and an IPS panel for better color reproduction. Plus it’s ready to go for the PS5.
