All of these guys have played for the Yankees lol, none of them are in the form of their Yankees card

It makes sense they are not in a Yankees uniform. They may have played for them, but it’s not the team they are known for, and the only way most would be is if they had a Milestone on the Yankees.

It’s a cool theme though.

I like how Moneyball made it out like Scott Hatteberg and scrubs won all those game. No mention of MVP Miguel Tejada, Eric Chavez, or the stud rotation of Zito, Hudson, and Mulder.

Need to read the book, Tejada, Chavez, Zito and Hudson are constantly brought up.

It’s a movie, there has to be creative compromises.

Yeah I haven’t read the book, I’ve heard great things, though. They weren’t mentioned at all in the movie, however. I’m sure they were just playing up that underdog story. Just think it’s a little funny

The movie underutilises the Chad Bradford story which is one of the best parts of the book… along with… well, basically every other part of the book. But the movie also includes him superficially and as a result his inclusion is kind of pointless.

But the movie does some things wonderfully. Billy, Pete and Grady are perfect. Paul/Pete’s reminder to Billy that he has changed the game forever without realising it by showing him the Jeremy Brown home run is the book’s epilogue and it is even more perfectly represented in the movie.

Seriously, you gotta read it or even better, listen to the audiobook. The guy who reads it (I got it on Audible) is absolutely perfect at it. All of those players and more (including coaching staff) get their fair share of attention.

Now I want to listen to it again for the 8th time 🙂

The rays strategy for winning doesn't account for guys like playoff Kiké either. While it works in the regular season, you need big time performances to advance in the playoffs. Wander and Randy couldn't win that series by themselves. At least least year Randy+ TB's bullpen being lights out was enough to get them into the WS. Bullpen needed to be lights out again and they weren't

Try being a Montréal Expos fan growing up. Solid teams for years and nothing and then when they get really good, strike. Soon after they moved to Washington. At least your team has a chance to be a world series winner.

Many people stop supporting a team when they move. Ask people in Baltimore on how they feel about the Indianapolis Colts. To give you an idea, my father still gives the finger to any Mayflower truck he sees.

Being the old fart that I am, I remember watching the Orioles sweep the Dodgers in 1966. Beat the Reds in 1970 4 games to 1 and in 1983 they beat the Phillies when a high school teammate of mine Scott McGregor pithced for the Orioles and went 18-7 that year.

The Reds have now had 7 Topps Now cards to go along with the 5 monthly award cards.

I don't buy it. Having someone with the same name is not a worthy replacement. I applaud the effort though.

I love Pudge, but if the point is to make it a Yankees theme team, you gotta have the best Yankees catcher not name Berra in Jorge Posada. Pudge played 22 games for the Yankees. Posada won 5 rings.

I think saying Jeter was a slap hitter is a ridiculous statement. Would you say the same of Cal Ripken? They had very similar SLG%.

Since you think Jeter should have diamond defense... Let's compare him with Jimmy Rollins who has above average but not amazing fielding and has had diamond fielding in MLB The Show on his 99 overall Signature Series card. You're argument is that his range is the reason people say he is a bad defender. I am not saying he is a "bad" defender but more so an average/run of the mill defender. You are right that his range is awful as indicated by his -89.3 RngR (Range runs above average) and 414 OOZ(Plays made Out of Zone), compared to Rollins at -9.7 RngR and 717 OOZ. When you look at the complete picture though, he is mediocre in almost every aspect. His UZR (Ultimate Zone Rating in runs above average) is -66.1, compared to Rollins at 48.4. Also, his overall FV (Fielding Value) at -137.1, Rollins at 37.4, and his DV (Defensive Value) at -19.8, Rollins at 137.

We also see a similar story when looking at his FSR (Fangraphs definition if you're not familiar, The Fan Scouting Report is a yearly project conducted by Tom Tango that rates players on their defensive ability based on fan observations and voting), where he is significantly worse in every single category.

So the fact that he has terrible range is not the only reason he is looked at as an average/run of the mill defender.
