I agree with pretty much all of the comments here and while I know that my passing reference to a few of the advanced metrics used these days clearly over-simplifies things since there will always be anomalies when it comes to “real baseball” outcomes/players!
Believe me I wish my team (Yankees) had a few more guys less focused on launch angle after watching them swing & miss pretty much everything Houston threw them last postseason just hoping to launch a HR instead of putting the ball in play. Indeed our best player last year, DJ LeMahieu, we got off the discount-rake all b/c he lacked the “sexy” advanced statistics teams are overly focused on these days...
But at the end of the day I’m not trying to play actual MLB baseball or else I’d get off the couch and hire a professional hitting coach to train me! It’s a video game so by definition isn’t constrained by the reality of MLB baseball & at least I still remember when these games were created just to be a fun way to play pretend MLB baseball without the frustrations of an actual 162-game season once you got off school/work. Perhaps that’s my biggest issue with SDS, they forgot the reason we buy the game & have turned it into a nightmare which ends up frustrating users to the point that I feel compelled to spend time writing another essay on the definition of the word “perfect” outside of HS English class!
And yes, I’m being a bit of a bad loser but know I’m not the 1st person to post something along these lines! In fact, I’m admittedly not that great at video games so sorry to be extra let down when I do finally tee up a ball only to get my frown turned upside down b/c it’s even worst than a striking out...it’s a double play lol
