He was money all year, but now is match-up dependent. The 125/H9 (parallel 4) def is a factor in my using him

He's pricey and gotten even pricier the past few days, but Jansen is a really nice bullpen piece.
Oh...also Eck. For the longest time I had that card in my pen and didn't turn to it much. He is beyond consistent and sometimes that is exactly what you need.
I forgot Eck, I feel like I could give him another shot…could pony up for Jansen, but idk if want to.
-
Who do you have in your pen? I’m not completely happy with mine, but I’m not sure there are better options available? Gossage is the best reliever in the game IMO, Chapman, Miller are both staying,

A Miller

Dibble

Lefty Grove Signature
Walter Johnson SignatureMike Scott was a stalwart in my rotation all summer! I’ve used Maddux with mixed results, Kershaw was great in his first start, I just picked up Johnson and may try Grove! Thanks!

I like the Cliff Lee suggestion, very different opinion than I’ve heard. I also bought Kerhaw and may test him out soon. I’d love to get Sale, but don’t have the stubs atm. Lester is an interesting one, Hamels was pretty popular earlier in the year...I may buy a few and stream them.
-
Thanks for the options, I’ve used Gibson with decent success. He’s probably the first name I left off the list. I usually hit Scherzer and Lamet pretty well, I’ve also used Lamet with mixed results. I’m very intrigued by Kershaw TBH, I can imagine that his prestiged card would be really tough!

I’m currently running with:
DeGrom prestige
Hershiser prestige
Bauer prestige
Palmer prestige
Seaver/Paxton prestige/Nolan RyanI’m considering Yu Darvish and prestiging him, any decent reviews?

For pitchers it's Pearson easily but really it's just a time sink. Getting all those K's with Jim Palmer, who IMO is the worst prestigable pitcher must be brutal. Gehrig's requirements are daunting but at least he's a good card. I wouldn't be surprised for a second if Prestige Matt Williams was the official "rarest" card in the game. He isn't a good card and he has tough requirements
Granted I only play on AS in RS but Palmer is a decent option for me.
Palmer, both regular and prestige, was my best starter until November. He had unreal numbers and a high K/9. I’ve combined to use those cards for nearly 300 IP. Now he’s my 5th starter.

My pen has been pretty lights out lately:
Andrew Miller
Pat Neshek
Devin Williams prestige
Nick Anderson prestige
Crochet
Chapman
Gossage -
The prestige version is much better with the boost in velo. I used him in events to prestige him, same story with Nick Anderson.
-
Thanks for the input! Degrom is prestiged, and Bauer will be soon! I’m hoping the added velo and separation for Bauer and Williams will make the, deadly. I’ll continue to work on Anderson and Gallegos, I may sell Hendriks back tbh!
-
I don’t really care for Anderson, Gallegos, or Hendriks, but can obviously prestige them easily during events. Once prestiged, are any of them “end-game” worthy? I am close to Devin Williams, and feel his prestige card will be end-game.
Thoughts/experiences?
-
Yeah, I’m in the 500-700 range depending on the day, Neshek has a sub 1.00 ERA for me in about 20 IP no one I have played can touch him. I had Dibble and he was nearly unhittable, but when he did get hit they were all HR.
I don’t love Williams or Anderson, but can prestige them pretty quickly. I think w the velo bump they’ll be assets.
I’ve only used Eckersley for 1 game and he was ok.
Wade Davis was good, but not end-game.
Crochet might be end-game, but I’ve heard good things about Hader.

@SeaOfRage said in Is there empirical evidence that different swings produce different results?:
It is the consensus that swings are as important as attributes in this game, but that view, as far as I can tell, is based on anecdotal accounts. I understand how a stance could create or remove a visual obstruction, or a stride could offer a visual cue that affects timing, but there are only a few unique swings in the game (eight, if I remember correctly), and they are spread evenly over approximately two thousand players. For example, hundreds of other players have the same swing type as Mike Trout, but most are not lauded for their swings (ignoring that Trout had the best attributes in the game for most of the year).
I've also seen comments suggesting that different swings produce different exit velocities or launch angles. Proper data would control at least for parks, hitters, pitchers, difficulty, and player aptitude. As far as I know, launch angle is determined solely by the vertical relationship of the PCI to the ball. Exit velocity is determined primarily by attributes and quality of timing and contact; other factors come into play, including RNG, but the swing type, if it makes any difference, must surely be minimal in comparison.
Perhaps there is a psychological boost to believing that swings separate hitters from their ratings. It certainly makes the game seem more open to creativity and nuance, as the mere pursuit of higher attributes is a dry affair.
What part of the conversation am I missing?
I asked this on a FB forum and was torn to shreds lol. I wasn’t given a shred of empirical data, just dozens of anecdotal examples. I think stances psychologically affect the way batters are pitched, e.g. if someone is crowding pitchers may tend to pitch inside more often. Also hot/cold zones affect some pitchers, I think someone like Ripken, who has a taller stance, is affected by a larger strike zone. More plate to cover, which makes it more difficult to use him. I’m convinced that the swings are just animations, unless actual data can prove otherwise.

I have worked with current and former players directly as far as licensing their images and paying royalties. It’s not difficult to acquire a player’s rights per se, the contracts we used were simple and didn’t even fill 2 pages. But it can be difficult to get a response: the effort in following up and communicating with player’s representation can be simple or an absolute pain. In the case of MLB The Show where they have secured a huge player pool including the rights of current MLB players as well as those who participate in the “blanket HOF” licensing, they wouldn’t spend too much of their time on overtures to secure any one particular player, say McGwire or Alfonso Soriano etc.
Not all HOF players participate in the licensing, and have to be contracted directly. This is the case for Mantle, Clemente, Aaron, and many others. It’s an interesting business to say the least.

Bonds was never part of the players union so he has never been in a game as bonds same with Kevin Millar.
Bonds was in games until 2005 as I recall, he was a monster in MVP Baseball.

Thanks, I have Williams, he’s sick! I’ll probably switch Hendriks for Anderson
