This thread right here is a perfect example of what has impressed me so much about the quality of the conversation on this site. I’m not being sarcastic at all, rather I could not be any more sincere! The OP decided to post a comment regarding a subject that he obviously believed to be a nonsensical aspect of the game, relying on logic to back up his argument…and, the way he has it constructed in his mind, he’s got it 100 percent correct. However, logic and baseball aren’t always the best of bedfellows…which is a fact well known to anyone who has spent their youth playing the sport and not the video game; the OP ‘outed’ themselves in a conversation board about baseball as someone who has clearly never played the sport. Not ONE PERSON was disrespectful, rude, or condescending to this young feller! Instead I got to see you guys take the time to try and explain it and make it a learning experience - not only for the OP, but for anyone else who should ever wonder the same thing and end up directed to this thread…perhaps even decades from now? I want to say “kudos to ya’ll” for this. THIS is the true spirit behind why forums such as this one ever came into existence. Had that kid posted his comments to, say, Reddit perhaps, the outcome would’ve been far, FAR uglier and the OP would’ve carried the scar with him for a while and may have even started second guessing themselves before speaking up later down the road. Wouldn’t y’all agree? I HATE reading how ugly people choose to be to their fellow man (human being) typically online. I’ve never been able to truly understand it, either.
I know that I’m one of very many online who spent time on this rock both before and after computers became a part of our daily lives, and it sure gives one a bit of a unique perspective on such things…but what I’ve noticed that has remained the same is that I’ve personally never, not even one time, been spoken to in a condescending and rude manner, yet I rarely can go three posts on a website without being either infuriated or frustrated to the point of exasperation…and one only need to read the comments on any news story these days and you’ll see people trading messages back and forth with each other for days about the most frivolous things…and rarely ever will you come across intelligent discussion on the actual subject of the article! Haha! I’m sure this happens here too, but what I’m saying is that, so far, I’ve seen the opposite of what me the status quo here at this site. It has been my experience in life that the vast majority of adults are, almost without exception, nearly ALWAYS cordial and decent in their interactions with their peers, and even more so when it comes to encounters with someone they’ve not met before…which is just about ALL people that one speaks with online! My guess is that I’ll never understand why it’s typically so vastly different online - but I have a suspicion that the solution to it is…….BASEBALL! Yes! It’s a proven fact that baseball fans are more intelligent than any other demographic. OK, I admit the previous sentence was a complete fabrication, devoid of ANY proof (that I’m aware of…and I ain’t looking to find out, either), but it remains my opinion!
I continue to be impressed by the quality of conversation here. Baseball is just awesome. Video games are awesome. We have us a baseball video game that, for the most part anyways, is incredibly fun to play, isn’t trying to brainwash us with radical political views, isn’t trying to make anyone feel left out (except you, Mackey Sasser, but maybe one day they’ll add you), and has given us baseball fans a great way to better enjoy the game as a whole. Seriously, how great is that!?
I tip my cap to you all. A class act and very encouraging.
I get what you’re saying, but there’s a caveat. I clearly stated I’ve faced pitching in a competitive setting. I played for thee Jackie Robinson West little league team. I played baseball in high school, and at Chicago State University. Also, I am not that young.
Then I would like to apologize for my error(s) and also if my post came across as offensive in any way; it wasn’t my intention at all and what I should have done was re-read what you wrote before making my post, but instead I read all of the replies, went to the grocery store, came back still thinking about how much I’d been enjoying my time on this forum, and THEN wrote my bit. I’m really very new to trying this forum experience, and I wanted only to make positive posts that celebrate the bond we all have as people who both enjoy the game of baseball as well as this video game…baseball I know - video games and online stuff…not so much. I assure you I have no desire to offend, but rather to point out the good qualities in things, which I personally believe we could all benefit with a little more of. Again I apologize for anything I wrote that misrepresented you.
No worries. It was an honest mistake.
