The constant negativity is ruining MLB The Show

The community is still apart of the problem I know some of you view everything with rose tinted glasses. There are actually issues and every minor inconvenience certain people don’t like.
Everyone should go to the latest X post on the Giants' comeback. 95% of the messages are toxic, swearing at them, have nothing to do with the post.
That's what I give SDS credit for. I would either stop posting or turn off comments.
There is just no reason for people to be like this. I don't care how "mad" they are.
And to your minor inconvenience piece - remember the when Elly was released? Everyone was complaining about how bad of a card he was.
I'm pretty sure he's been starting against me in 90% of Ranked games. Card must be terrible! -

There are definitely those who view the game with Rose Colored glasses but there are also those who act like every issue, whether big or small, is a personal insult SDS has made against them that must be answered in kind.
I feel like I have been fairly negative this year but I would like to think that I have been able to post my concerns in a reasonably civil manner without hurling insults at the company, it's employees or those here who do not agree with me.

I'm pretty sure he's been starting against me in 90% of Ranked games. Card must be terrible! But's it OK for a multi million dollar company to flat ignore major issues with a game? I would have more respect if they just came out and said, we are unable to fix shrinkage instead of releasing mostly switch hitting chase and collection cards to take advantage of a glitch in their product.
They have the tools to ban both the cheaters and the glitchers but let's be honest, they don't want to spend the money to do so.
Don't make EVERY chase and collection the best card released for the week. It would not hurt them to mix in some better cards that can be grinded for. I don't want to hear deGrom either as probably at least 90% of people can't do that showdown.
Do people get out of hand with the cards? Sure they do. Welcome to Earth. If a company doesn't do the right thing instead of the greedy thing, I have zero sympathy for you.
Will I keep playing because I like baseball? Yes. Will I play as much as I usually would with all the issues? No but I don't spend any additional money so we don't matter. All the issues I listed are major issues with this game. I have zero problem with a business making money as long as they are addressing major issues when they arise. The only issue they address is when someone messes with the market/stubs (3rd party). Isn't that exactly what cheaters and glitchers are doing?

I’ll be glad when the devs are fired. Most won’t step foot in a real studio again. Sorry you feel differently, everyone’s entitled to their own opinion, two wrongs don’t make a right, and all those other really cool sayings about holding hands and being one. I will laugh… out loud….when they get fired.

The community is making this game harder to enjoy
I know this probably won’t be a popular post, but I feel like the community is becoming one of the biggest problems with MLB The Show.
The game is not perfect. Nobody is saying it is. There are issues, there are frustrating moments, and there are absolutely things SDS can improve. But the way some people talk about this game, and the way some creators lead the conversation around it, has gotten ridiculous.
We have toxic content creators who complain about almost everything, encourage people to exploit glitches, and then act like the game is completely broken because they’re mad about whatever the latest thing is. We have people harassing SDS employees on X, flooding every post with negativity, leaking content and ruining surprises, and just generally making the entire environment miserable.
And I doubt most of the loudest people complaining have any idea what actually goes into building, launching, maintaining, and fixing a video game at this scale. That doesn’t mean SDS is above criticism, but there’s a big difference between criticism and acting like every issue is some personal attack on the player base.
The reality is, hundreds of thousands (maybe millions?) of people are playing this game and enjoying it. Most people just log on, play some baseball, build their team, and have fun. It’s still a great game with an awesome mode in Diamond Dynasty. But the loudest parts of the community make it feel like everything is terrible all the time.
I actually think SDS deserves some credit for continuing to show up, communicate, release content, and try to improve things, knowing full well that no matter what they do, people are going to attack them.
It’s just a shame. I love baseball, I love this game, and I wish the community around it was better. Criticism is fine. Feedback is fine. But the constant negativity, harassment, glitch exploiting, cheating, and leaking is brutal.
I know I’ll probably get [censored] for this post, but I genuinely feel for SDS. This community could be so much better than it is right now.
Don't blame the community for the abyssmal state of this game. This was just a [censored] poor effort from this company.
PCI shrinkage
Switch hitter meta
Collections were you get 5 cards for free and have to buy or get rare round for other 30
Cheaters
Glitchers
Sure I'm missing a ton of thingsSDS found that they could make more money leaving a glitch and providing switch hitters. Combatting cheaters and people that use glitches take resources (money mainly) and this greedy company isn't going to do anything about it. It is the wild west on this game.
You want something positive? It is a baseball game and the only real baseball game out. They are 100% taking advantage of this. Do you think if there was a major competitor, they would be addressing these things? Likely. This company gets all [censored] hurt about the negative. You want to change the narrative? Fix your [censored] game, ban the cheaters and glitchers, quit heading the route of Madden (you are straight ignorant if you can't see the direction this game is headed). Really not that hard, just takes some effort on your part. Sorry, haven't seen any.
Let's also blame the community. We create problems that don't exist.
Are you talking about cards that you can't play on legend with or teams like the Yankees having more cards than say Royals? To me that isn't a problem. I very well know that the Yankees have way more and far better legends than the Royals. I don't get upset about the number of Royals cards released. Their legend pool is extremely thin. I also understand that players use theme teams and 93 topps now cards are used more for those than playing ranked.
Any other problems the community creates that don't exist? I would be interested on hearing those.

This is exactly the type of thing I’m talking about. Criticism is totally fair, but being excited about real people losing their jobs over a video game is wild.
I get being frustrated. I’ve had frustrations with the game too. But there’s a big difference between “this needs to be fixed” and acting like the people working on it are lazy, incompetent, or deserve to be unemployed. None of us know what their internal resources, timelines, budget, staffing, or technical limitations actually look like.
Hold the game accountable, sure. But rooting for people to get fired is just weird.
-
If they gave us a decent game at launch we wouldn't be here complaining.
I don't think the devs should be fired. I can't hope for that in good conscience. Those are people with lives and jobs. I struggled to find a job for six months last year in this abysmal job market, and I don't want someone to face the same thing.
But we should hold the game accountable, I agree. We should expect better from a game we pay $70 for every year. At that price we should be receiving a good product that is not only worth the money, but also our time playing it.

I'm pretty sure he's been starting against me in 90% of Ranked games. Card must be terrible!Frankly, any corporation employee who has an online account, be it on X, or a web forum like this, is being paid to be a public spokesman. It is no different that a public affairs official who takes questions from the media. Some of the reporters are reasonable people and some are hacks just out to attack. Either way, it goes with the job and you get paid to deal with it.
One more thing I want to add, since before I read Sarge's extended comments, I sort of glossed over that assertion you made about folks being ignorant of what it takes to write code for a video game. Go back to my original reply to you. If your new car fails to start sitting in the office parking lot, you don't have to hold a degree in mechanical engineering to realize you paid for a clunker!
That said, I do hold a minor in computer science issued by NC State University. Yes, it was decades in the past, but while earning that minor to go along with my larger BS degree from same, I actually did write a video game. It became rather popular with the other computer science students I attended classes with and wrote code with in the computer labs.
I also worked on several projects to create virtual aircraft for noteworthy PC flight simulators. My main work was in testing their aircraft for proper flight characteristics. This because I knew my path was different than working in a cubicle pounding out computer code all day. It was flying high performance aircraft for the US Air Force, and I firmly believe I made the right choice for myself.
But, I was well known for providing accurate feedback to those who created the virtual aircraft. I also understood that these companies had to turn a profit to remain in business. I earned a reputation for detailed analysis and thorough examination. In addition to the testing, I also ran a company myself that specialized in creating virtual aircraft, missions, and aerial combat campaigns for what was then known as Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator I and II. I assembled a team of coders, testers, and software experts.
So, yes, I very much know what it takes to put out quality computer technology. So, given I have gone from very much pro SDS and how they managed this once outstanding game title, to perhaps being one of their most ardent critics herein, I would say I earned that change of heart by SDS's repeated malice and poor workmanship. And I think I operate from a principle of integrity and honesty. I also think the vast majority of the bug reports and complaints written here are entirely fair and objectively accurate.

Fair points, and I appreciate the thoughtful response.
To be clear, I’m not saying complaints are never warranted. They absolutely are. I’ve made them myself. When my account was erroneously restricted, I posted about it. When I lost 700K stubs, I posted about that too. Both were eventually fixed, but they were real issues and I had every right to be frustrated.
My point is more about how people handle that frustration.
You don’t strike me as someone who is just blindly attacking people, threatening SDS employees, swearing at them, or rooting for people to lose their jobs. So what I’m saying probably doesn’t apply to you. Constructive criticism is fine. Detailed bug reports are fine. Calling out legitimate issues is fine.
But there’s a huge difference between that and the constant toxic pile-on we see around every single thing SDS posts. Complaining about every little inconvenience, turning every issue into “SDS is trash,” harassing employees on X, encouraging glitches, or hoping people get fired is a completely different thing.
And for what it’s worth, this is probably my least favorite MLB The Show since I started playing. So I’m not pretending the game is perfect. It isn’t. There are plenty of things I’d change.
I just also think it’s still a much better game, and much more fun, than the loudest parts of the community make it out to be. And frankly, a lot of the people acting like the game is unplayable are still logging in and playing it every day.
That’s really my point. Criticism is healthy. The nonstop negativity and personal toxicity are not.
Also - yes, you may be someone that understands what goes into video game development. I also have a bit of a CS background (in that I was a CS major for 2 years before changing), but there are people calling for devs to lose their jobs over stuff they truly don't understand.
-
This would be true for many games but not this years MLB the Show.
Bugs in existence and unfixed for multiple releases. New bugs this year.
Constant menu freezes
Bots in the market
Cheaters free to run wild unpunished
Lack of and thoughtless content
The decision to end TA
This was a [censored] poor release and it's been completely ignored and neglected by SDS.
People love this game and it's absolutely ok to complain out loud about it. I get it, all the complaints haven't motivated SDS but I promise silence or putting on a happy face sure as hell isn't going to motivate them either.

I’ve said this before…
Those that post criticisms in a “healthy, non-toxic, professional and non-personal way” are simply passionate about the Show and want to be “part of the solution “ in making it a better game. Even if we disagree on what a “better game” looks like.
Everyone else? Probably on my block list!. 🫣

-
@DemIsE4_XBL cheating was caused by the community. Bunt dancing and toxic play like continuously pausing. Then we have the people who love playing the victim. We will always have people who will never be satisfied with anything. It’s impossible problem with no solution that would satisfy every single player.

Exactly!

Yep. And not to say the entire community is at fault. I actually started a "non-toxic" group where we can complain about the game, but we are all civil and never attack one another.
SDS is in a spot where no matter what they do, people won't be happy. They've finally addressed the WBC glitch and now all the people that are like "you're only complaining about the glitch because you weren't around to do it...." and "let's stick it to SDS, I don't care if they ban me."....
Well, now they're doing something about it. And X is FILLED with the people who "didn't care if they ban me" complaining about getting banned.
-
Cheating may be caused by the community but isn't it on the gaming companies to protect the non-cheaters? We don't have the tools to combat cheating, SDS does. Games talk about competitive integrity yet very few actually do what it takes. Seems like only the big AAA studios take a crack at it.
-
@DemIsE4_XBL it’s on both parties. You shouldn’t cheat or encourage and they should be able to defend people against cheaters. But I’m not gonna stop playing just cuz I run into a very small amount of cheaters but that’s just me.
