    No lead is too big. No lead is too small. Jeff Hoffman will blow them all. ☹

    How many times does this kind of thing happen before GMs stop giving relief pitchers big contracts? About a hundred (probably more) RPs are DFA'd every year. Just keep signing them and find a couple that work. DFA the others. Save yourself millions.

    I'm a Jays fan- he's a complete head case. We've found our new closer in Louie Varland. I think he needs to be sent down or DFA'd. It's insane how he's still being brought into games right now

    @Sarge1387_PSN I actually like the way Schneider is using Varland right now. He brings him in near the end to face the best hitters, no matter if it's the 8th or 9th. You would rather have the best pitcher face the top 3 than a Hoffman.

    And, to my point, the better RPs on the Jay's staff are all making the league min.. There's no reason to blow cash on RPs. Just keep grabbing free ones, or kids from the minors until you find some that work.

    So, what do you do with a guy like this? You can't keep a guy with a 6+ ERA. You can't DFA a guy owed $11M this year and the next, because no one will take that contract. You can't send him to the minors, because he won't accept the demotion.

    This may sound facetious, but maybe 'find' an injury? Come up with some something to sit him on the bench for a month?

    What did the Angels do with Rendon or the Rockies with Bryant?

    @StinkyMcPooter_XBL Kris Bryant has a very real injury situation, and Rendón actually did get hurt a couple times iirc. Hoffman’s a pitcher so lil more difficult to make up an injury (which would be the move)

    @StinkyMcPooter_XBL

    Only choice is what the Phillies did with Walker and Casty, eat the contract and release him if you think he’s absolutely not going to improve.

    Agreed. I was thinking of an 'injury' or something they can use to park this guy for a few weeks and then send him on extended rehab assignments to make sure he has anything left.

    If not, give him the shoe. 🤷

    The issue with Hoffman is that when he's on- he's [censored] near unhittable. But when he's not- look out. He's your typical pitcher headcase. I think sending him down might be a solid thing to do. Give him a month down there to work on things, get him a sports psychiatrist.

    Otherwise, it's time to eat the deal and outright release him

    @StinkyMcPooter_XBL Now imagine Jeff Hoffman cloned to fill an entire bullpen.

    That's the Tigers for the last month. Blown lead after blown lead

    ACTUALLY that's the Tigers bullpen for the last FIFTEEN YEARS.

    @LadySwampfox_XBL

    It happens. Everyone has to deal with a bad bullpen now and again.

    This is the reason I posit that teams (and subsequently players of MLBTS) shouldn't give big contracts to RPs.

    Either load up your pen with players with options and control or sign players to a one year deal that you can just dump if they turn out to be trash.
