I think the title says it all. I don't know if Joe at SDS reads these, someone else entirely, etc., but I've had this thought for years, and I get why some may have duplicates, but given the cards using the same model but different years (for those legends who only have one model in-game), why not focus on getting more names and less copies?

When RBI Baseball & Super Mega Baseball began to use licensed players, in order to use their real names, there were likely discussions with those who represented those specific men.

I know your crew knows some of the recent RBI Baseball staff, and I know their former creative lead, of whom you've put in the game as a legend, in past games!

Once they had the players they requested, those did not change from year-to-year, and in fact, they added more, never subtracting. What's keeping San Diego Studios from doing the same with MLB The Show?

Your product has been awesome for decades, and this only makes it better, for all of us.

While I think we all would like more legends it is hard to know what the hold-up is. Seeing that SDS and Sony are a business I am thinking it is an analysis of how much the player rights cost vs the benefit they see from adding this player.

While Tom Herr (I'll always call him Tommy for some reason) is a Cardinals player that I have always had a fondness for as he was part of those great 80's teams, he is not really well known. He is in Super Mega and that is great but if you put him in The Show most would not have a clue who he is or even ever heard his name. He would just be dismissed as 2B with decent contact and no power and no secondary position (he played 1,416 out of 1,436 games at 2b)

Fun fact about Herr - In 1985 he managed 110 RBIs while only hitting 8 HRs. Seems like that was a pretty rare thing even in 1985. Of course he benefitted from hitting third behind Vince Coleman and Willie Mcgee, who stole a combined 166 bases.

No [censored]. If you read my post, however, there's more to it, and I want to know what it is.

Money is the answer, back then money was the primary reason but there were other reasons, now money is the only reason, and it's not just baseball or video games

    In the end ...

Could be the Legend in question was asking for too much. (See Williams, Ted for the prior 3 years.) Could be the Legend wasn't getting used by the Community at large so the company couldn't justify the expense (See Tanana, Street, Hampton, Bedrosian)

In the end, SDS doesn't have an unlimited Legends fund and must pick and choose. Do I get upset when they remove a legend I like (B Wilson, Belle, Will Clark)? Do I get upset when they don't even bother adding a legend I really want (Juan Gone, Ben McDonald, Todd Walker)? Sure, but I also recognize that real world limits exist and I can't always get what I want.

And the reason there are duplicates is because you don't want to release all 99s on Day 1 is you get what we had the prior couple years with Sets and Seasons. You have to give Legends something at launch because people are interested in using them, and then one (or more) later on down the road to represent them at their best.

If you give 99s day one (and don't have any mechanism that expires them), then you start to lose interest in June/July because there's nothing left for players to earn. Most of us learned that lesson in 2018.

@Dolenz_PSN I remember Tommy Herr really well! We've got guys in there like Tony Tarasco, so there's either more to their selection or a lot less than we know. I want to hear it straight from the horse's mouth.

I also remember Vince Coleman and Willie McGee, very well!

When Cardinals fans come to Camden Yards, why are most of them know-it-all's? I was a bit put off by how arrogant they were! Us Orioles fans are all very hopeful; we rarely trash our own players, unlike Yankees/Red Sox/Phillies fans!

And speaking of St. Louis, I just got a 1951 Browns cap in the mail, yesterday, from Mickey's Place. My original one was made of wool and deteriorated, probably thirty years ago.

I remember reading about Herr's season, on the back of cards and thinking... that's an odd number, right? Nick Markakis used to put up big RBI numbers, while hitting few HRs, and that's a sign of greater productivity I think, as opposed to just mashing homeruns. Or maybe those guys just make their own lives harder? George Sisler, like many guys of his era, could put up massive RBI numbers, but hit fewer homeruns. The RBIs have always left a bigger impression on me, rather than the HR. I'll take a guy with 15 HR and 90RBI anyday, over a guy with 28-35 HR and only 70RBI.

@SaveFarris_PSN Then why not do that with every single Legend? It's about the cards, not how many player models are released. The Harold Baines card this year is from his 1995 season, yet his player model is based on his age 26 season, and this is what we see, every year. We don't need more than one copy of a single player. Then again, I RARELY play Diamond Dynasty. I'm not interested in fantasy leagues with logos of ZYN nicotine patches!

Maybe we should nag Fantatics for a billion-dollar donation to San Diego Studios, since they own just about everything else now! I'm glad Panini is suing the pants off of them.

Don't put Phillies fans in that, some times you do something stupid and deserve to get booed, we support them with everything we got and when they dont hold up their end ,well we let them know it, but it's not all trashing and booing them, look at turner and bohm, they got standing ovation and turned their performances around,

I think the bigger issue is constantly getting multiple versions of current players. Every year we get multiple Schwarbers, Strahm, Bummer etc. it’s always the same players getting cards. It makes sense to give us multiple versions of legends while they have their rights. It’s obnoxious to get the same active players every single year.

@Zachtronics_XBL ok, so what are you complaining about then? It doesn’t affect you, and gives less weight to your opinion on the matter.

@yankblan_PSN There's always at least one of you in every forum post.

Ask me nicely as to why I am requesting this (not complaining) or keep up with the conversation, before being an [censored]. Thanks!
