Market Inflation!!!

@solidsnake_222_PSN I wish i was that lucky. I pulled Skenes and Skubal. I pulled a few other lower diamonds, but had to buy Judge, Witt, Marte, JRam, Soto, and Trout. I also pulled Tatis, but at the time his sell value wasnt what it is today. I had 400k Stubs when Ohtani was 380, and decided to complete other collections first...man do i regret that decision lol. Oh well it is what it is. I'm to the point now i'm playing Oblivion, as i've lost the will to grind for breadcrumbs. Like i said i'm 200k from Rolen, needing Topps now (6) and the award cards (7).
2 weeks ago i opened like 200 different packs and got 3 diamonds (i already had them) Jrod, Altuve, and Egg Boggs. after i sold all the dups, i made like 30k....
Yesterday i completed the Online got the 50 pack and Chase, DQ got Josh Jung, and the 2 new Conquest maps...i pulled 3 diamonds in around 125 packs, One was Chris Sale from the Chase Pack, the other 2, Don Sutton (who i needed and completed 2nd half heros) and Gunner Henderson. I made roughly 40k from those pulls.
I can only imagine pack luck will increase per inning, as i'd like to believe the idea is the slow crawl, meaning it will be easier to get the 99's as we go. But SDS needs to just say that. To be fair i'll save packs if thats the case.
i'm losing interest at this point. I love the show, but with 3 kids in baseball, a job, and a mortgage, i'm not wasting time grinding.

The prices will come down when better cards get released
That is - besides „You do not have to complete LS early May“ - the most important piece of information !

When you allow quick sell value to change on cards already owned by players instead of keeping it static to the value at the time the card was acquired, roster updates like this last one dump likely more than 100 million stubs (probably closer to a billion than a million) into circulation instantaneously without any gameplay or effort. If they kept it static, people could only benefit from “investing” by selling the cards in the marketplace to people actually buying them (which wouldn’t create stubs, just transfer them).
If they made this change, it would substantially benefit NMS overall because you wouldn’t see the market inflation constantly occurring every roster update. However, if they made it, the small portion of the player base that obsesses over “investing” would be the most vocal, whiny people in the world, calling SDS greedy when it’s a change that would benefit people that just want to actually play the game instead of a stock market simulator.
Even now, instead of people in here properly criticizing the stock market simulators for ruining the game for them and asking SDS to change this practice… it’s just people acting like this is some sort of conspiracy from SDS to inflate the market and make you buy stubs.
It isn’t. It’s that you keep blaming SDS, such that SDS cannot win no matter what it does, instead of blaming the stock market simulators and the respective content creators that demand the right every year to screw you.
-
I don’t care who is responsible I just care about the end effect which is spoiling the game and making me want to walk away. As someone posted above I’m a busy guy with a full time job where I can’t sit at a desk and play the game non stop. I have a wife and son and help coach. Living on the game isn’t an option for me and it’s turned into that or being a content creator.
The game has slowly been systematically ruined for casual players looking to just have a good time and chill after a long, hard, day.

@macdaddy-o_PSN 100%, this is the latest i havent had LS done. I still need the 1 card. i'm closer to Scott Rolan stub wise than i am Beltran. Thats a joke, especially since it’s 1 card that i need.
I just got Beltran last night NMS, but the pack gods absolutely blessed me this year. Pulled Ohtani, Witt, Soto, and many other diamonds without buying a single pack in the pack shop or any stubs. Had to buy Judge, Ramirez, and Trout from the marketplace and that was only manageable because of my investments with the roster update. I can’t imagine doing the collections without having pulled Ohtani and Witt.
I can tell you. Since I didn’t pull any of the big guys (Still need Ohtani).
I grinded DQ so much that I’m ready to take a break due to burnout, and still didn’t get Ohtani because when I was on my way to him SDS updated the max value of 90+ LS and his price jumped from 370ish to 580ish.
It is a nightmare
-
a NOTE TO FUTURE ME:
Opening night: Take the bonus stubs from buying early, drop a few bucks on some stubs. Buy Ohtani opening night. Dont buy a STUPID BUNDLE AND WASTE YOUR MONEY. (i've done this for the past 3 opening nights, being excited) Buy Ohtani/Judge opening night and move on with life, it will make LS collection at least 35% easier.

My buggest problem with not finishing the live series collection is I’d like to use some of the team collection cards like Witt Merrifield,Darren Oday, etc. By the time I finish them they’ll probably be irrelevant. Most of the new cards that are coming out now are already rated higher than them. I thought I would be able to finish the National League collection last Friday but Ohtani jumped up 200k. With my pack luck and difficulty to flip for stubs this year it’s looking like it’s going to be a long grind. Not sure how many times I can play Diamond Quest and Mini Season before I’m completely burned out.

My biggest problem with the market prices and difficulty to flip to make stubs is it’s going to take a while to finish live series. If I don’t finish live series for a while means I won’t get Rolen for a while either because I’m focused on live series first. I’m not trying to come off as complaining and I guess it isn’t that big of a deal but the real issue is by the time most of finish the live series collection the cards will be irrelevant. I’d like to use some of 90s like Witt Merrifield,Darren Oday, etc. The player rating slow rise is right about what these players are rated and I haven’t gotten them yet. By the time I do will these even be good?
O'Day will be good all year, the live series will probably have 25'ASG versions come out that will render them collection fodder.
-
@PAinPA_PSN Yeah I do think O’day will be solid all year. He has a funky delivery. I gotta say as an Orioles fan I’m all for it.
-
@MRAD2010_XBL they'll put out a 99 O'Day later in the year. They usually do with all the LS Collection cards. When Randy was introduced a couple of years ago, he got a No Hitter or Perfect game (i can't remember) card later in the year.

I just assume that not much about this game is meant to be fun anymore. The not so subtle changes to get people to spend $$$ will drive me off soon. Real soon.
-
@mubby_33_PSN groceries going up because of tariffs? Lol.

100% … I missed opening week due to bad vacation planning … That cost me prox 150K. I still finished LS without flipping (buying Witt last fridays morning as my last piece), without being flawless … just by playing the game (going for TA while doing conquest and mini seasons), cleaning my binder and not making stupid stuff like buying cards when they are expensive

Honesstly: If not being able to have the big collection reward makes you not having fun anymore, there is more wrong than the actual market prices. You can field an awesome team with no collections done to compete. Gimme your current team, a realistic stub number and I build you a good team. The team makes you not win more, it is your thumbs on the sticks
On the other side: If having everything anytime (that is not against you, but if you read this forum you get the impression) is the only way people are not complaining (they still will), then something else is completely wrong.

Don’t blame people who wisely follow real life baseball and put their stubs into under-rated cards to make stubs off the updates. It takes very little time to read box scores and baseball reference twice a week and spot trends. Yes, I do this and have made 1.4 million off the first update. I have the LS collection finished and have for some time. I’ve spent a little bit of real money, but made 95% of my collection and stubs by being aware of the real life game and the inefficiencies in the early ratings.
I also think that you miss the flip side of this inflation after the updates, that of the sellers who get more stubs from what they have in their binders. Just be smart and be patient, the market will settle back in a week or so. In the meantime sell every duplicate you own on the market. EVERYTHING, even bronze and commons. Build a stub stack while the market is up.
Btw, I’ll already have 800k invested in the next update. Not hard work when you use the companion app.
-
@GoozeFn_PSN It was meant as a joke. It was either tariffs or blaming chickens for the price of eggs.
-
To each their own but I just want to play baseball. I don’t enjoy stock market simulator at all. I don’t mind flipping when it makes sense but so far this year the margins make flipping a waste of time.
-
I’m not missing out on playing baseball. I putt around with the investments all day on the app whenever I have a few minutes. I’m not flipping cards constantly. But that’s what is great about the Show. You can play it your way.
-
@TripleH-4481_PSN your mindset is the problem, not the game. You have to accept that you won’t be able to get everything if you don’t either play on avg 3 hours a day or spend a boatload of money.
Play the modes you want or aim for the cards you want and enjoy THAT. The biggest problem of MLBTS to me is that it’s a summer sport and summer content schedule. By early June I have a hard time justifying taking half my afternoon inside when there’s a pool to tend to, lawn mowing, entertaining friends and family, etc. So I binge early and start missing stuff once the weather warms up. If it were October-April I could easily do it without getting side-eyed by the wife.
DD is a FOMO game mode. For lots of people, the content is too bare, for me rn it’s the perfect balance but I will soon fall behind.

SDS not releasing dozens of 99 overall cards during the first month is the primary cause of this. The lack of those "high end" cards have placed a new dependency on mediocre LS cards. Never in the history of MLBTS has there been 3 LS cards selling for 200K plus at the same time. Not to mention the other 5 or 6 LS cards running anywhere from 130-200K or the several 86 overall cards that were running at 40K plus for quite some time.
Ohtani and Judge will stay elevated for a good part of the cycle because, like Trout, they are true gatekeepers for collections. An 86 overall Skenes card should have never been 60K, let alone considered a "gatekeeper" for the Central collection.
Once SDS starts releasing more of the upper echelon cards, most of the LS prices will tank just like always. The only difference is SDS has figured a way to increase their earnings by not flooding the game with those 99s of cycles past.
