Since 21 I learned a lot about the market … and how to make stubs. I completed LS after a couple of weeks … each year.
The last 2 years I got better and better and was able to get every card that was buyable without thinking. This „experience“ got really worse last year. I finshed the game cycle with every card and prox 25M stubs.
But I had no fun doing the collecting part of the game. I still lost as many games late in the year as I did in the early weeks. So this year, I will just go no-flip at all. I open the packs I can get and if I like a card, I keep it. If I don‘t I will sell it.
And I will not buy more than 1 card to make stubs off of them (I bought Gary Sanchez bc I wanted to get the Orioles TA captain … after that I sold him)After roughly two weeks (I had a late start into the year) this is my early summary:
- Packs are more fun for me again, e.g. today I was really happy pulling Judge
- I still win more games than I lose (I started the year with 2 connection losses on my part and I was too stupid controlling the pause timer)
- So … It does not matter what cards you have (which is not a new thing
). Today I played someone with most of collections done and Sasaki on the mound. I still won
Maybe this helps some people who think that this game is pay to win and are too eager to get stubs flipping the hell out of the market.
@MarioMendoza935_XBL How is your experience going
?

Absolutely love this

I'll make this real simple. If you don't like playing baseball video games, then opt out of MLB The Show and stop gripping constantly so those of us who do like playing baseball video games can focus SDS on making the playing of the games even better than it currently is!

I don't think Sasaki needs any of the 87s so should be very easy to get NMS/no flip.
But the live series collection is meant to serve two purposes: long term goals for the average person, and some easy money for SDS/Sony at the start of the year off of suckers.
More to your point, being NMS isnt going to stop you getting that shiny gold Mantle. If you are good enough to make 1000 in the first place, you dont need Beltran.

So far, so good. I have resisted the urge to flip. Now... full disclosure... I did pull Ohtani a few days after launch and I sold him. I don't consider that a "flip" as I didn't buy him. Some may disagree, but... I stand by my decision.
I will say that NOT flipping has been far more satisfying this year. I'm enjoying the game more, working towards "earning" cards (i.e. Diamond Quest) and grinding the programs. I'm looking forward to that sweet 50-pack at the end of the Multiplayer program...

I’m collecting all the American League and selling everything else. I have used the stubs I earned to buy cards to complete teams. And way over spent on Tek which set me back a bit but I don’t care - he’s awesome

If I had 9 Beltran's, I'm still not making 1000.

@MarioMendoza935_XBL, but what if you had 9 Scott Hattebergs?

Well, it is kinda flipping but in my view flipping is getting more than 1 card from the market to eventually make profit off of it.
In recent years I always bought multiple cards, held onto them and resold them. Or I bought some cards at low prices just to sell them of immediately.
That means getting the card (or something else, equipment, …) via the market just to sell him … that is flipping at its highestI pulled Judge yesterday. If he gets supercharged today and his price rises to say 250K, I will sell him and rebuy him when I do collections.
I sold some other guys (Crews, Basallo, Skubal) I pulled from packs the exact same way because they did not make my team better at that time -

I'll give you that. I think in my mind "flipping" is buying a card explicitly to sell it later at a profit. So, I haven't done that this year. For the first time since it became available, I didn't download the app to avoid the temptation of flipping.
I used the proceeds from Ohtani to buy up the "cheap" LS series teams. At this time, I still need the Guardians, Royals, Angels, Mets, Braves, Pirates (!), Dodgers and Padres. It will take a while, but I'm in no rush.
P.S. If you told me two years ago that Pittsburgh would have an LS card that was over 60k in 2025, I would have assumed that the Pirates had been relocated.

P.S. If you told me two years ago that Pittsburgh would have an LS card that was over 60k in 2025, I would have assumed that the Pirates had been relocated.I am not buying the card for the intent to sell it later at a profit too … Let‘s see, how our little experiment fares over the course of the game cycle
(in other words: I will come back to you :). So be sure that I will stick to that mode
And yes, the Pirates, but Skenes is awesome
… I will wait collections out until prices drop. I am sitting at 375K with Judge and Marte in the Books. I only did the Braves because I wanted Justice and I pulled 3x Sale and bought Acuna off of it

If you had told me 10 years ago that we still wouldn’t have Andy Van Slyke in the game, I would have assumed…Well I don’t know what I would have assumed! Lol

I just translated „humblebrag“
… To make it more precise
: Packs would still be more fun even if I did not pull Judge. But in 24 I would have done LS by now so pulling Judge would then only be „more stubs“

A ton of YouTuber’s channels in MLB started by showing how to flip cards. There’s a reason those guys don’t make those videos or talk about it anymore, the margins and tiny and there’s no risk free flips like there use to be.

they do that every year (at least over the last 5). But this thread is not about how to flip
