It would really be nice if the game worked on a whole new lineup of legend players. It starts to get really old getting repeated versions of the same players over and over again. I imagine it costs money to create new players beyond the rookies and draft picks, but it would sure add more fun to the game to get some players that currently aren't in it.

Legends aren't part of the MLBPA agreement and have to be contracted with individually, making them much more expensive. Even with that, we got a bunch of new ones this year. I've stopped defending SDS with a lot of things, but they have been doing pretty well with legends, even with having too many Yankees and Dodgers.

And let's not fool ourselves, every legend they remove to add another would cause some sub section of the players to throw a fit.

"Why did you remove <Player A> and keep <Player B> in the game!

They have the rights to so many MLB players in the Players Association. Why do they end up never using them? If EA can do it with their arcade baseball game, then why can't SDS?

My guess is that it would be a separate license. While the MLBPAA is affiliated with the MLBPA, they are different entities. That may be something that either SDS could negotiate directly with MLBPAA.... or possibly, the MLBPAA could negotiate directly with the MLBPA regarding the game license. In addition, players in either organization may be able to "opt out" in order to negotiate their own personal NIL.
