Outfield Defense

If I move the analog stick left or right ever so slightly, my outfielder moves tons and invariably overruns the ball and it rolls behind him. It HAS to be lag, because no person in their right mind would program the game so that Willie Mays or Julio Rodriguez are unable to field a routine base hit to CF.
I never had/have that problem, maybe it is you/r input/controller other than blaming the developers?

This drives me mad but generally only happens when the fielder is gold or lower stat wise.
But the same player doesn’t have any issues diving 20 foot to stop a play though.

@lewisnadasurf1
I don’t think Julio or Willie Mays are gold shield defenders?I’m not ruling out my controller but I find it interesting that some of you know exactly what I’m talking about and some of you immediately defend the game.

The animation of changing direction takes too long and is un realistic. Irl even below average defenders make better change of direction moves.
Sds should make the better defenders have almost no change of direction animation.
That's my opinion. -
@jaychvz
Oh is that what is happening?
I’m triggering a change direction animation? -

So, what is up with moving your outfielders to the left or right and the ball going by them?
Is this a product of lag? I realize attributes like reaction and so on impact the animations you get BUT I can’t count how many times my outfielders have overrun the ball and then had to turn and chase it. This on very slight moves of the analog stick.
It’s got to the point where I don’t move the outfielder at all sometimes for fear they will turn a base hit into triple.
Again, is this lag, or just how the game plays now?
I have that issue as well. I think it's from not waiting until the auto move to (not sure what it's called) goes. The auto puts you in the direction of where the ball is headed. Sometimes I'll immediately go left instead of right. It seems like the auto move takes over for a few moments in the wrong direction even though I've barely tapped the stick. It may also be a video game physics thing that is beyond me. Real physics, just fine, an object in motion blah blah blah...but probably the same idea.

Interesting. Yeah, whatever is going on there makes playing the outfield very precarious. I’m sure the “auto-move” as you describe it makes sense in theory, but in practice it just doesn’t work.
It’s another aspect of the show where it feels like your input is not really deciding the outcome, sometimes. -
Turn Assist Fielding off. Then it'll all be on you. They shouldn't lock on anymore

@GixxerRyder750
Oh boy. That sounds like it might actually work! Thanks! -
My problem is infielders and outfielders running about 3 steps after catching the ball even if it was right to them
