No 99 Edgar is crazy
-
Ok, but EVERYBODY loves Elly (and … I am being honest: only few like Edgar). His chase card is arguably the best card in the game. Did he deserve multiple? Probably no but I get that SDS gave him a Finest so that everybody could have an Elly.
Again, I would have given Edgar a 99, but it would be extremly boring if everybody would get every player „right“ each year. We would have exactly the same cards over and over again. These kind of discussions (if they would ever end and/or did not exaggerate all the time) belong to DD imo
…
I will end it here with:
The 97 Edgar is awesome on your theme team. Take Teoscar as a cpt that gives him +15/10 on power and 10 on contactR … It is close to the Edgar we got last year imo … and got enough. -
@YOSHI24
I have been doing just that! I do like using one of the pitching captains (Gilbert or RJ) also, so sometimes I forego Teoscar in RF so I can use Mike Cameron.
Edgar is hitting .333/.333/.333 for me so far. A bit more pop would be nice but he is pretty clutch and gets decent pitches to hit because nobody is afraid of him. Lol. -
Also, I’m pretty sure a big part of the reason “everyone loves Elly” is his card is insane. Tons more people would love Edgar if his card was comparable. That’s kinda the point.

I agree on your point. Although stealing 2nd, 3rd, and home off the same at bat, plus hitting for the cycle all as a rookie is pretty insane.

The cycle. I’d rather a single, double and 2 homeruns. Lol.

He had an awesome 22 card and nobody used him (even I did not use him
). Elly is a 5-tool-guy … switch-hitting shortstop … he also fits the big Captain Squads -
You’re kinda making my point!
Elly is a very exciting player, no doubt. That said, he is a .8 war player who hit .235 in less than 100 MLB games.
Edgar hit .312 over an 18 year career, good for 68.4 war.
Obviously SDS feels their target demographic would rather have a juiced Elly card.
-
I don‘t think you really get the card concepts … You gotta separate the „year cards“, live series, Topps Now and especially the Milestone cards. Later can be everything SDS wants it to be … Elly got his not for his „career accomplishment“ … It was one game (and a pretty big one).
If you want to make an argument about this, have fun with all the coming milestone cards
Your style of arguments will e.g. have fun with Ronald Acunas Milestone 40/70-card (which is awesome) … That is „ONLY“ one year, he has an 8.2. Career war … Edgar is way better … and still: Nobody cares.
Last point, after that I am out (it gets a little tiring): Edgar deserves a great 99 … period. But stop making crazy argument lines, that don‘t hold. Edgar could have an all around 125 card (which he would not deserve, those are for the Babe etc.) and still few would use him (it is the truth, look at 22) … and still everybody uses this Elly MilestoneEDIT: Just looked up Edgars 22 card: 125/125 contact, 106/114 power, 125 clutch, 3B/1B with 75 fielding … That is a hell of an (deserved) Edgar card … which nobody used …

Whatever the type of card, the appeal to us players of this video game is the fantasy element. Nobody cares if Elly’s career is a bust moving forward, or if any of the juiced cards have a basis in reality or not. This is as it should be. We are not MLB players, but video game players. It’s supposed to be fun.

Correct. But they don’t need to make 3 of him and Schwarber and wait until practically January to make a Willie Mays who is a better hitter than Adam Wainwright.
