No 99 Edgar is crazy
-
@RudySosa22_XBL No need to bash the Hall of Fame player instead of mentioning Schwarber and Elly having 3 cards that are 99 to Edgar having none.
-
Another good point. Probably SDS has some demographic info on us which says the player base is more interested in current stars than HOF players from the past.
-
@halfbutt
I’ve said this for a while now. It’s pretty clear with the marketing of the game which direction things are heading. Between the overpowered young players that have barely sniffed any service time and the neglected all time greats it’s annoying for us long time baseball fans to say least.
-
Not to mention Mariners fans looking for decent cards. My theme team includes Ketel Marte, Zunino, and Santana out of necessity
-
To be Fair, Edgar Martinez cards are always garbage...has been for years.

They’ve had 99 Edgar before and have Big Papi who is also just a DH so they could’ve done it.

Due to the 99s from Day 1 many of us agree they gave too many to certain players and others got lost in the shuffle

There seems to be a bit of a trend though. Make the HOF player cards have no power, but juiced cards of current players get tons of power.
The game needs to get over itself with the faux “realism”.

I am not buying this without evidence …. I recognized:
- A ton of HoF/Legends have god squad-like cards, just as: Babe, Griffey, Mays, Aaron, Clemente, …
- If you sort the player database at showzone.gg my meta overall, you have 7 Legends in the Top 20: Mays, Mauer (yes, he is not in the HOF yet), Mantle, Chipper, Roberts, Foxx, Griffey, Sheffield (he is on the way to the HOF currently). The other guys: Acuna, Bellinger, Trout, Rutschman, Harper, Raleigh, Betts, Elly, Tatis, JRam … That is not a group of inflated nobodys
- So this does not proof your point
- BUT … yes … we have Topps Now … every year. They are inflated but usually nobody has them in their god squad, because they all miss something
- EDIT: And yes, we do not have enough legends. From the quantity alone, you may have a point though

-
You make good points.
I’m more thinking about like Tony Gwynn or Don Mattingly or Wade Boggs type guys. Sure, none of us expect Richie Ashburn to have tons of pop, but Edgar is the guy the top DH award is named after. He is a career .300+ hitter with batting titles, silver sluggers, etc. A player like that should get a decent card, imo. -
Following on these points, I'm going to do my usual Paul Molitor thing: so this year, they do the twist on the Awards series cards and they include postseason awards. I'm thinking, finally! A Paul Molitor World Series MVP card -- he slugged in that WS so the card will finally have some pop! And they didn't give him one.
-
@halfbutt Tony got the best card he can possibly get. They cannot give him 110 power … Mattingly got a very good 99 … To me, SDS nailed both of em … Boggs even got a better card than both of them. Maxed out contact with 112 power vs Righties, max vision/Clutch… Plus he has an awesome swing
@cbpm72_PSN same goes for little Paul … he got a very good near maxed out contact, with good (not great) power. You cannot max out Paul to be like Willie Mays

For a time-limited postseason awards card, you could. If the awards card is for the world series MVP, then that's the stats base for the card. I guess that's why they didn't give him one, because they didn't want to up the power?
-
@cbpm72 … Yes, to me because it would be unrealistic. They do it, but maybe just not for Paul. Who besides us two likes him

@YOSHI24
I’m wondering if anyone has tried Boggs at third? Those animations would be interesting!I’m not saying the cards are bad, per se (although Edgar’s is egregiously lacking power imo). It just seems that SDS has no problem making current players with LS bronzes into potential end game cards, whereas the legends get their stats converted to attributes meticulously.
-
@halfbutt … again, where are you getting those wild ideas from? You are constantly stating things without proof … Which current live series broze is playing like an end-game-card? Yes, the have superfracture, but that was a s special feature. But other than that?
Which Legend is „underpowered“. Shall they make Lou Brock 125 across the board (he is actually a stud the way he is built)? Or Boggs (he is a stud too)?
Boggs is a natural 3B-men, he plays good. But I think you meant Donnie ..
And do not get back to Edgar … He is one (and he did not get an endgame card this year) and you are saying „Legends“ (which is plural) -

I’m wondering if anyone has tried Boggs at third?I’ve been playing Boggs at third with my legends team and he’s pretty solid making many diving stops etc but lol then again I threw out Ricky Henderson as he tried to steal second with Carlos Delgado behind the dish haha which is an easy reminder that this is a vidya game and not reality but still it remains a fun way to pass the time

@YOSHI24
I mean, the title of the thread answers your question. Edgar Martinez is the perfect example.As for LS bronze players with diamond cards, there are tons. Ryan Noda, Jack Suwinski, Sean Manaea, Jake Cronenworth, Diego Cartaya, Masyn Winn… there’s tons.
Now are these cards a bad thing? Hell no. But that Ryan Noda card, for example, has 103/125 power. By contrast, the best Edgar card in the game this year has 100/75 power.
The fact that Edgar has 75 power vs L because he had thousands more appearances vs R in his 20ish year career is inappropriate “realism” IMO.

I don’t mind those cards because they are finest and reward a player for a good year or Topps now cards
I just don’t understand why they don’t reward so many legends which they have the rights to and had amazing careers

If you continue to run back and cry about Edgar … okay. But you said „… players with LS bronzes into potential end game cards, whereas the legends …“ … you used the plural in legends which I referred to.
Other than that: Well, we got Topps Now and Finest. That means we get random weekly cards of „good performaners“. Those Topps Now Cards are not great, they are fillers. Nobody uses them a lot. And then we have finest … aka „the best players of each team this year“ … Well, you got the A‘s … and that is how Noda got his one.
If you continue crying about Edgar … that‘s your right, but again, you used the plural and that is a pretty random (and imo false argument) …
I am realizing that we have dozens of this „I cry about player X, because I did not like“-threads … We had a great Edgar last year and this year we did not … Could he have gotten a better and Schwarber one less? Yes, absolutely
