Beyond disappointed in the content this year. Seems like content was more focused on giving current players 6 different goated cards, i feel as if they neglected legends as a whole quite a bit.

What can be done moving forward acquiring rights for some of these legends? Is it simply money? Why is it so hard for SDS to keep/maintain legends in this game? Doesn’t seem to ever be an issue with 2k and Madden.

Would be nice to get some new faces in there that are usable….using the same recycled legends is getting old especially when they only get 1 or 2 cards max to choose from

I know it won't happen because they are a small company but I've always thought it would be a good idea to contact as many living former mlb players as possible and see if they want to be in the game. Surely there are some guys who aren't superstars who would love to be in the game for cheap or even for free. As a braves fan I'm thinking of the Mark Lemkes, Jeff Blausers, Otis Nixon types. It could easily add to the diversity of the game.

That is probably the most crucial element.

It may boil down to the question of whether they think enough gamers will be interested in the player to be worth the money and time spent to sign them.

The problem I believe is likeness rights since the use real baseball cards. A game like Out of The Park Baseball adds a lot more legends because in their card collecting mode they use generic cards that do not have the players actual pictures for any players who is not a current player.

Alot of people probably won't even know who half of the older players are like you mentioned

    @Dolenz

Makes sense, just tough to understand how Madden and 2K have just about every legend you could think of and The Show has trouble retaining or acquiring guys. And I don't buy the "small company" thing...they are a first party developer for Sony. If they needed the money it's there. Not to mention its an award winning game that sells like crazy.

The process must just be different and a bit more difficult.

@sbchamps17 The younger crowd...yeah, I guess. Just feels like the older Show's of 16,17, 18 etc put such an emphasis on legeds and the game was so much more fun. Now we're stuck getting 5 Cal Raleighs and our choice of 12 Shwarbers.

We've already got legends that nobody outside of relatives care about:

    Mike Cameron
    Alex Gordon
    Chili Davis
    Matt Cain
    Brandon Webb

Much as I'd love to see Rusty Greer and Bobby Witt Sr, there's nothing in it for SDS because literally no one would care.

@SaveFarris You have to wonder how many of those guys would actually say no to being in the game without getting paid though? Hard to imagine SDS would reach out to ask, but me being a 90's kid I find it hard they can't find ways to get guys like Mo Vaugh, Nomar, Paul O'Neill, Galarraga, Moises Alou, Burnitz, Javy lopez, Ray Lankford, Jeff Kent, Rolen, Raul Mondesi......and I mean that was just loooking at 1998.

There are SO many more they could attempt to put in this game and whether people care or not, it will give the game a little more variety because the last 2 years its been STALE AF

I don‘t think so … Sure, a lot of guys only want Griffey/Mantle/Gehrig/Ruth … but it would add to diversity, especially if they go back to the traditional power creep. Give those players a chance in the early weeks/months and the others can get their Griffeys later on

Agree on variety And what's the big deal about exposing newer players to the games history? How is that not a positive especially if it can be done free or on the cheap.

This is very much the case. I believe they do, and they should have some legends from every team, even if they are not exciting.

As a Cardinals fan I would love Ted Simmons, Willie McGee or Chris Carpenter but their use would probably be restricted to Cardinal fans as everyone still would go for Grandal, Trout and Ohtani.

I was thinking about this after watching the Yogi Berra documentary. I wonder if they’ve ever reached out to his family for rights.

They did add Jeter, Sosa, McGwire and a bunch of Negro League legends this year, as well as some lesser names. I don’t find that disappointing at all, especially compared to previous years.

I think they keep it around a certain amount of players, say 250, due to a budget. I think they allocate part of whatever budget they have for creating the game in NIL and it’s distributed out accordingly. Bigger players get larger payouts than lesser players. They swap the players out and some come and go every once in a while like Shawn Green has been in and out of the game for example.

No one is going to agree to be in the game without compensation. And even if they tried, their agents would overrule them.

And Yogi WAS in the game. In 2018. My guess is Yogi's usage wasn't worth the price tag.

I'm just waiting for everyone to complain if Yamamoto isn't in the game right away.

He should be covered under the MLBPA agreement since he's now (2024) an active MLB player. He'll have an LS card if not more in 2024.

And as I said to the other guy I’m sure they have his rights already since he is in this game. He has a WBC card and was in the live rosters through 11/3 as a free agent for use offline.

@fubar2k7_PSN @Blind_Bleeder He still has to sign a contract with Topps. And since Topps Series 1 is releasing on two months; I don't they have time to include him.

Which means he won't have an LS card, like Senga, for at least a few roster updates or he'll have an LS card that has a silhouette as a photo.
