I agree that having your whole team available sounds good but it's how it has always been except for this year. I don't think it's a bonus or anything like that for them to give back what they took away in the first place.

I've bought and played this series every year since before it was MLB The Show (989 Sports). If this is the model going forward, it is enough for me to throw in the towel. .Seriously this is not a model to keep people coming back for more. If next year is the same Sets/Seasons, I'm gone for good and I suspect I'm not the only one who feels this way. I'm not waiting until January to use the cards I earned through Set 3.
I'm there with you. I will not purchase this game if sets are still a thing. I'm not wasting time grinding for the good cards only to eventually lose them. Especially with the length of the grind required to get most of them.

Again, I’m just looking at the silver lining. I honestly don’t know how I feel about the way they did things this year. I’m going to hold back final judgment until the whole game cycle is complete. I just wanted to put this thought out there…
This expiring cards/Set format stinks, no matter what cologne is sprayed on top of it.
While I appreciate your "glass half-full" approach, I will never like or support expiring cards for RS H2H. They had expiring cards in 2014, or so, which limited online RS H2H engagement. This is why they switched to having all of your (earned/purchased) cards usable in RS H2H for the entire annual game cycle. More online participation is better for everyone and this current format is not helping that.

I hope that go back the the 9-10 innings programs like in years past next year and dump this season stuff. I play A LOT, and it's really hurt my interest in the game this year. Makes paralleling cards early on meaningless, and its completely destroyed the live series collections. I will never do them again after this year. Totally worthless.
Also, the captains concept would have been great in the old format, but with all of the early game 99's, that was made irrelevant too.
I always enjoyed the slow build to the 99's and the finest collection. I hope they can figure out a way to fix this.

You’ve been playing since long before DD was even fathomable. I can’t believe you don’t find enjoyment in any other aspect of the game besides DD. I joined slightly after you, MLB06 was my first game, and only about 1/4th of my games had a real decent DD to play.

There have been a lot of posts expressing frustration at the early release of 99s and the expiring of sets. But when Set 6 arrives, all cards are eligible again, right?
I’m kind of looking forward to using my WBC Trout, my Riz Bob Gibson, and all sorts of other 99s without having to grind for them. At that point, we won’t have used those cards in so long, it’s like getting them for the first time all over again, and they won’t cost us stubs or grind time.

I mean you can always put whip cream and a cherry on top of [censored] but you still eventually get to the [censored]

I did but even those aspects of the game changed. RTTS is much different than it was in 2014 and prior to that I played online Home Run Derby and online was free. It’s changed as well. So there were other games besides DD but they’ve all taken a dump over the years

I can’t wait for January to roll around so all cards are usable. They’ll be some hard choices to make with all the cards unlocked, should I use my 99 WS Gagne or maybe the 99 rewards path Gagne card. Or how about the 90 overall Gagne they dropped in between those two.

I think the early release of 99s is a good thing. If they didn’t do that, only the big money spenders would have 99s early on (at least three via the LS collections). That’s an advantage that will last months, unless you work market more than you play the actual game. And who wants to do that?
I also believe early 99 rewards for making WS or going 12-0 in BR is also a good thing, because why should making WS in September reward you more than making it in April?
I can agree with you all about not liking expiring cards, but vehemently disagree about early 99s. I love that they did that.

It’s a positive spin on things but in my view taking cards/options away that we have earned thru play or pay is never a good thing for any length of time. It’s fine to put a ceiling and a floor on team builds, events are already trying this, and would go a long way in improving play in ranked, but cutting off a huge chunk of cards is just not right. Then doubling down by rereleasing 99s of the same players or worse yet lesser versions is straight greedy garbage.
I don’t mind them releasing different versions of the same player but def not lesser versions. I also think all final collection cards should be core cards. Such as Pedro, Babe and Chipper.

I also loved the early 99’s. Long overdue!!!

Right there with you. If they come out an announce 24 will have Sets and wild cards I will not buy it.
