Just some things that have happened or been talked about, courtesy of mlb.com and mlb trade rumors, that aren’t Gerrit Cole, Rendon, etc.
-The royals signed maikel Franco. It’s an odd deal, but it must mean the royals didn’t see enough out of Brett Phillips to commit to him being an opening day starter in the outfield. Bubba starling showed flashes of potential and I think, given his status as the local boy/first round pick, they’d like to see him get a full season. Hunter dozier will most likely shift to Right Field or left field(all pending in what Alex Gordon does) whole Franco starts at third. KC isn’t a hitters park, so we will have to see how Franco plays, but it appears the royals are moving away from speed and heading more towards power, trying to fit in a bit more.
-The indians are reportedly interested in Caesar Hernandez. I like this one for Cleveland. Hernandez lead the Phillies in hits last year, and his durability is very nice given we don’t know where Lindor ends up. Plus, if you add Hernandez and keep Lindor, that gives you 4 switch hitting infielders with Santana and Ramirez, which could make for a match up nightmare. It also fits given Jason kipnis appears to be out in cleveland.
-Austin Romine signs with tigers. As a Yankee fan, this one made me sad, but as a baseball fan I think it’s a great move by Detroit. Romine had a pretty good couple of years as Gary Sanchez continued to get injured. He has proven to be a very solid catcher and shown he can hit for some average, and hopefully is given a chance to start in Detroit. He plays the game the right way and is one of those gritty players, and the tigers have needed a catcher for a while.
Anybody else got any interesting under the radar stuff?
