DeGrom did what an honest Mets fan knew he would do

And will probably get a nice Nolan Ryan card as the Ranger LS collection next year!
Gaylord Perry?
Another good one.
Whoever it'll be it will definitely be a nice diamond rather than a gold card!

Wowwwwww.
Not shocked, but this is devastating.I don’t blame the Mets. I know deGrom staying healthy was a concern and that contract he wanted was ridiculous.
-
As a Mets fan I am obviously very upset but wish him the best of luck. He earned his money. Also want to point out that he was very consistently healthy until these past 2 seasons when the Mets did a terrible job diagnosing his injury. So the whole “he can’t stay healthy narrative” is BS
-
only 200-225 innings in THREE YEARS COMBINED. Huge risk there
-
Next year, DeGrom will start as an 87.
-
As a very long time Met fan, I am sad to see him go. But no way I would give him a 5 year near 200 million dollar contract. Best of Luck Jacob.

Understand that the last two years he has missed considerable time, but people keep mistakingly looking at the 68 innings he pitched in 2020 as being injury-related when it was simply due to the shortened COVID season. He made more starts than Trevor Bauer who won the NL Cy Young that year.
I agree that he has been a liability in 2021/2022 and there is some significant risk on the Rangers side for giving him such a contract. Just trying to reel in this narrative that deGrom was hurt in 2020 because it is easy to glance at his Baseball Reference page and throw up a red flag when you see his innings/starts.
-
I know the injury risk is high but A+++ for putting their money where their mouth is! Go RANGERS!

“I only need the Rangers to complete the Live Series collection”. Man, I never thought I’d be saying that. Lol.
lollll so true

Astros will still finish 20+ games in first. And... FIGHT!

I always liked the Texas Rangers, even though I'm a New Yorker. I hoped they'd win at least 1 of the 2 WS they almost won. I'm even a Dallas Stars fan since 1993, believe it or not. One reason why is the NY Rangers didn't think I was good enough when they allegedly scouted my Hockey games in the 80's, so I hated them for it!
I think the Bochy effect will be huge and they'll become a winning team, but Houston is a juggernaut and Oakland seems to rise from the ashes when least suspected, and the Angels flirted with a winning season. Seattle seems to be on to something as well, so we will see. -

it's a great rivalry that we happen to be on top of for awhile now

Why!!?? Why would you bring that name back into my conciseness! Do you know how long it took me to forget that name...

I always feel guilty stepping into a Rangers discussion. I still think 2011 is one of the most thrilling WS I've seen. While I'm glad we won, it was great seeing the Rangers on top of the AL for a few years.
This contract is bloated and speaking as a Pujols mega fan (paying for past performance). It also brings another legit superstar to their ranks who will sell insane amounts of jerseys and if he stays healthy and they make some more moves, this team is headed in the right direction.
Or it could be like Chan Ho Park.

I was loving it. It was like the Juan Gonzalez years where they contended. I was pulling for Ron Washington. He did get to win a ring with Atlanta last year. Maybe he won as a coach somewhere else?

20+ games is a pretty big boast. I think Astros are going to have to work a little harder this year.

That series broke my heart. Hats off to the Cardinals. I thought the Rangers had it but it’s never over till it’s over.

OK - I'll bet you 100,000 stubs and a 2011 Finest Verlander that the Astros finish 20 games ahead of the Rangers in 2023.
I will also bet that the Pirates finish 40 games behind the Astros. It doesn't matter that they're not in the same division.
