3 pitchers were snubbed for the atrocity that was Rick Porcello's Cy Young in 2016
I remember that year. Britton was a leading story all year, ended the year only giving up 4 runs the entire season. Curious who you thought the 3 snubbed pitchers were. I would say verlander and britton for sure. who's your 3rd? Kluber?
Yeah Kluber. Sale might even have been a better choice than Porcello. It's I'm fairly certain the only time in the history of CY young voting that someone that had more than 1 or 2 less 1st place votes won. Verlander had 14 first place votes to Porcello's 8. Thanks to 2 AL east beat writer losers that left Verlander off the ballot to give Porcello a chance
I can't stand baseball writers. So much of baseball is truly beyond me. Unathletic writers controlling awards and turning the HOF ballots into popularity contest and rumor mills, fans voting for the all stars, the top 2 teams having higher salaries than the bottom 2/3 of the league combined. Crazy game that somtimes feels like it hasn't adapted to the modern age imo.
Baseball is slow. The game is slow. Any changes, no matter how much sense they make are slow. Even something as simple as netting down the lines in the stands took years. Financially these top market teams make these bottom 2/3 payroll teams profitable. So the owners aren’t in a rush to change that. Don’t even mention a salary cap. That’s taboo.
Taboo or not it would make the league better to have a cap and a salary floor. I don't belive the low budget teams are low budget, billionairs didn't become billionaires by owning non profitable organizations. They are just to happy to tank and rake in all the sweet profit sharing money. Ultimately the fans pay the price. Sorry Pirates fans

PREACH! I’m with you. At the end of the day the players and owners want money. I’m not a financial wiz, I don’t know the structuring of how a cap would impact the bottom line. I feel like you got millionaire players with their high end agents protecting the top earners and owners happy to oblige. So top players don’t want a cap. Owners don’t want a cap. I can speak to my own fandom and I’d like to see a cap.

A far bigger snub was "Citizen Kane" losing Best Picture to "How Green was my Valley". A travesty!
I bet all my BFF's out here didn't realize I was a film buff. I'm quite the Renaissance man.
Well more recently Shakespeare in love beat out Saving private Ryan. 20 years later one movie is thought to be an all time war classic the other no one remembers it being made ️
The first 20-30 minutes of Saving Private Ryan with surround sound cranked up is AMAZING.

I'm going to go with... the Mets made the playoffs and the Rockies did not.
And... Coors field "stigma"..
Yup, that's how I saw in 2000

League needs a Salary floor. The whole small market/big market nonsense is just an excuse for owners to be cheap. There is no such thing as small market teams in anything but baseball

Not sure if its bigger, but still think Altuve winning it in 2017 over Judge was laughable imo. Especially since baseball has moved to advance metrics and OPS as a better indicator of performance over batting average.
Altuve had the advantage in hits/average and like stolen bases. Judge led in everything else that was meaningful. Not only did he set the rookie HR record (until Alonso the following year), he lead the league in runs, hrs, BBs (and yes Ks). Not to mention the Yankees were a year removed from missing the playoffs and finishing 4th and expected to finish last in the ALE, yet won 91 games (2nd place ALE) and went all the way to the CS. The man literally carried that Yankees team.
Altuve - WAR 7.7 , .346 / .410 / .547 / .957 - 112 R, 204H, 24 HR, 81 RBI, 58 BB, 84K
Judge - WAR 8.0, .284 / .422 / .627 / 1.049 - 128 R, 154H 52 HR, 114 RBI, 127BB, 208K -

Yeah I used to think that also. However, while CK is legendary, HGWMV was like this year's Derby winner, who had his epic moment. HGWMV is an excellent film regarding Welsh miners. The economic, social, and family dynamics were well depicted and still relevant today. Both are excellent films.

Iron Maiden not being in the 'Rock And Roll HOF '

I think it was due to Judges slump in 2nd part of July and really really bad August after the AS break/HRD. Altuve was consistent but Judge had the above stats after factoring in his Aug -- .185 / .353 / .326 / .680 with only 3 HRs. He then rebounded in Sept with an average over .300 and OPS of 1.352 (15HRs). If he had even a marginally better August, he'd hit 60+ hrs and still have the rookie record.

Hey I like Shakespeare on Love.
I mean Saving Private Ryan in the superior film. But I like Shakespeare better.

At this point they just need to call it a Music Hall of Fame. It stopped being "rock and roll" years ago.

Other Oscar snubs include:
My Fair Lady beating Dr Strangelove
Ghandi beating ET
Crash over Brokeback Mountain
The Greatest Show on Earth over High Noon
And perhaps the worst snub of all time... Rin Tin Tin (who received the most votes) losing best actor to Emil Jannings at the first Academy Awards. -
The coors stigma is easily the worst thing about baseball. It doesn't help that majority of people don't fully understand the boon and detriment of playing at coors field.

May not be a popular opinion, but I still haven’t forgiven the Academy for picking Forrest Gump over The Shawshank Redemption.

Thats actually a tough call. I absolutely love both movies, but I think I too would go with Forrest Gump.
