Offensively, no. Defensively, yes. He also played for the largest market in terms of sports, so he had that going for him.
If he accrued the same offensive numbers in say, Detroit, he'd still be in the HOF just without five rings to show for it.And if he played in Detroit, probably not 1st ballot.
If he played in Detroit he would have been dropped from the ballot and would have to wait for the veterans committee to fix the writers mistake. I think he compares very closely to Trammell.

I could not agree more with you, but everything professional sports is run through social media whether you like it or not. Maybe there is in your circle, but there is no sitting down at a bar and discussing baseball anymore

I’ll give social media credit for one thing: dampening my passion for sports, thus allowing me to miss games, events, game 7s, quit fantasy sports and on and on.
Watching grown men tear each other about which dude should have his plaque or bust in a museum, call each other names for their fandom, cry about ref calls or perceived slight by the league, make 50 tweets a day about it, or long [censored] exposes of their theories on the Athletic like they’re scouts or covering the beat for 40 years…
Basically I loved sport, but people ruined it, one hot take at a time.

No doubt!!! And for the record I hate the Yankees. Jeter, however, played the game right and more importantly represented the Yankees brand on and off the field with dignity and class!!! This is just a troll thread.
