5 Man Rotation?
-
Is everyone using a 5 man rotation? I've heard you only need 3 or 4 but I find that to be aggressively low. I'm struggling with 5 guys. Right now, not a single guy in my rotation has full energy and I had to bring in Buehrle for a spot start. I have also faced Kluber in something like 11 of the last 12 games, which leads me to believe that people are using less than 5 in a rotation. Keep in mind that I'm the type of manager to try to get about 90+ pitches or 6 innings out of a starter. How is everyone else faring with starter selection and pitcher energy? What are your strategies to making the most out of your pitching staff?

I try to use Oswalt, Sale, and Smoltz as much as possible. I use Saberhagen as a 4th starter, then I rarely use a 5th. My 5th is basically a long reliever for me.

Your problem is forcing your starters to use "x" amount of pitches or innings. Take your starters out when it makes sense to. If he's been untouchable, don't pinch hit in the 6th for him. If he's been getting knocked around a bit, it might be a good idea to pull him, even if he only has 60 pitches or has only given up 2 or 3 runs. Try to limit relievers to their 3 batter minimum or 15-20 pitches. You can usually reuse a starter after they have rested 2-3 games, and relievers usually only need 1 game to be useful, or 2 games to be fully rested.

Kluber recovers energy quite quickly. I’m using Kluber, Newhouser, and Ryan as my first 3. Often I am able to go back to Kluber right after Ryan. His energy isn’t at 100%, but I’d say it’s close to 90%. If he isn’t quite there yet, I use Prior as my fourth starter. But most of the time I am able to avoid using Prior and Verlander as starters and may just start using them as long relievers.

They need to nerf SP engery. I've seen multi guys use Kluber and Oswalt as RP and I assume they probably use them every second game.
On the other hand the RP stamina in BR goes really fast. I'm trying to use 4 guys in my BR runs and if one of them get's hit hard i'm basically stuck

I've been using 3-4 starting pitchers as starters and a 5th SP I use as a long term reliever often. There's definitely extra innings to go in a 5 man rotation if stamina is high enough for the 5 i think.

I feel like pitch count definitely effects stamina regen, how many pitches would you say you have Kluber throwing a game?

I use a 5 man rotation just because that's how it should be, but starters do regain energy way too fast.

7 to 8 innings, sometimes even the complete game. It really just depends on how many runs I’ve scored, how well my opponent has picked him up, and whether he’s in the yellow/red yet.

I use 1-3 starters by switching them out every few innings. Makes the hitter not get comfortable with any pitcher, and still have kopech throwing gas in the last few innings

Im using 5 right now, and I’ll change some guys out as long as their energy is high enough.

When your opponent dashboards 25% of the time, stamina isn't an issue.
Play the game out people..oh wait, when they dashboard, their energy resets too, as if they played a full 9.
