1 run game, 1B was open, a lefty was on the mound, and a lefty was on deck. The move makes perfect baseball sense. Cabrera should’ve just gotten a hit earlier in the game lmao.

What happened after the IBB makes your argument pointless. For the sake of respect Miggy should've been allowed to try for a hit. Besides there were two outs anyway and he'd already struck out twice. It's called sportsmanship.

Sportsmanship are you serious ---its called you're a Manager of Major League Team you do what's best for your team - you're making it sound like that was his last at bat for the season. I know Detroit doesn't have much to look forward to but seriously it was the right move.

"Right" move or not, it was a [expletive] move and the world knows it, except you apparently.

Ha. The world knows it? Even the majority of the people in this thread doesn't agree with it.

Baseball move, even if Miggy is pedestrian now.

The worst I've seen is the 1993 AS Game in Baltimore where Cito Gaston (huge a**hole) put his own closer in a 9-3 game instead of Moose.

Thursday day game. Lots of kids there because they're off from school. As fans, it's ridiculously disappointing. Could he have gotten the hit earlier? Yeah. I'm sure there were scoring decisions during the previous 2999 hits as well.

The FANS in person on a sunny day game were let down by Boone not pitching to Miggy. Even trying to pitch around him would have shown some brass.

I'm mad as a fan of the sport. My kids are off too, and tuned in on this as well. Sure you can watch it on YouTube in a few days whenever he gets it. Not quite the same.

I'm done here. I apologize for caring. I'm certainly not a Boone fan, but we'll see what gets said by him, Miggy, MLB Network etc.

Kind of related, but in an RTTS I was doing in MLBTS20, Miggy retired on 2999 hits and 497 homers:

    Now that’s a cheap move 🙂

It was an at-bat where he could have gotten his 3,000 hit. A major milestone that not a lot of players reach. And we actually do have a lot to look forward to, including shutting you out of the postseason again. "Right" move or not, it was a [expletive] move and the world knows it, except you apparently.

wrong...what if the Texas leaguer ended up an out and the yankees won 2-1....it was the right call. Ask yourself, would have wanted Barry Bonds to try for number 756 when it was a 1 run game and an open base bc "sportsmanship"? no...and I know he was roided out but still, same concept.

Miggy went 0-3. He got a chance. Just because you want him to get 3000 today doesn’t mean Boone or the Yankees had it out for the guy. Late in the game you make tough decisions to win the game or put your team in a better situation.

Now if Boone worked around Miggy or intentionally walked him in the beginning of the game then you’d have a case.

This is udder lunacy. This ain’t the last AB of Miggys career. He’ll get it.

Uhh no he shouldn’t be allowed. Are you serious? He’s not above the sport. Yankees were trying to make a baseball move and win the game. That’s like saying an NFL team should punt the ball back to Tom Brady so he can have a chance to at a TD pass milestone. You must be apart of the participation trophy era.

Why should Boone care about what Tigers fans think? Why should anyone other than the Tigers care what Tigers fans think? If you actually were a fan of the sport, you’d applaud Boone for making the correct managerial call and not pandering to fans and going against the best interests of his team.

Lol. You must be overanalyzing what I said. I never said I speak for all the baseball fans out there, I was merely pointing out that this forum is a fraction of the baseball community and the majority opinion of the forum may or may not necessarily reflect the same opinion of the forum.

    It's called statistics.

Disagree with this... the manager did exactly what he should have done to give his team the best chance to win. Sportsmanship is one thing, but it's not giving the opposing team a better chance at beating you. It's not like it was the last game of the year... he has all year to get his hit.

Because it was the correct decision LMFAO

The odds were in favor of Meadows not getting a hit against a lefty, but the odds in baseball are never zero. Just because the unlikely outcome happened, doesn’t mean the decision was incorrect. You can be as much of an emotional crybaby as you want, but the odds, statistics, and situation back up the decision to walk Cabrera.
