No Point in Playing Ranked Seasons

I consider myself an avg to above avg player. Last year I could make it to Championship get close to world series but have never made it there. I enjoy collecting all the cards that become available. Last year I was able to get the cards by racking up the wins. Yes, to SDS' point, quit a game early if I knew I was going to lose, but full games are only valuable to content creators not most players. And I only have so much time to play, need to maximize my time if I want to get all the cards and play all the modes.
With this year's change, no way I get to world series. Not even by "just playing the games" 400 innings is basically 44 games. That means between 35-40 hours of gameplay per season. If I commit to that I won't have time to do BR, events and so on. I rather do the other modes and still have the competition aspect in events and BR.
SDS- anyway you can tweak this? Maybe a combination of XP and innings? Or getting to certain levels (division series, championship) "buys" you a number of progress requiring less innings or XP to reach WS? Otherwise, someone like myself just don't see the point of playing ranked when I'm trying to get as many cards as possible.

I honestly believe they will reduce the innings needed eventually - like they did with the amount of wins last year when they dropped it from 40 to 30 wins needed. For the record I agree 400 innings is a bit insane.

you are absolutely right - only people with nothing else going on in their personal lives will be able to consistently reach 400 IP per month - with each game taking roughly 1 hr, imagine spending 40-50 hours per month on just RS alone - unreal
-
I mean 400 innings is 43 games roughly which unless you went 40 and 0 you would likely have had to play close to 50 games per season to hit the win totals last year.

This right here makes sense, except if you get a lot of quits from your opponent. Say you get 6 quits (20%) on your 30-wins run at 3 innings, that's 36 innings/4 games saved potentially.
I still say the incentive to keep people from quitting or freezing is greater than the rewards anyway.

I think the biggest factor for me is I can play relaxed and know i am progressing forward, love a tight well played game against an opponent, no big deal got my innings and played in a competitive match. Which is the reason we want to play online right.
Also the innings is a big W for doing team builds later in the year cause again still progressing win or lose

Kind of. I made WS last year and when I hit WS my total record was only ~35-4. I played a few games each season to get to AS level and then one season (Verlander and Lindor rewards) I went for it and went 13 or 14 and 1 and made it. I've never had a run like that before and it's obviously not easy, lots of tight games, but you can hit WS without playing 40 games.
I'll add this, I've never made WS in any MLB game prior to that. It was a crazy run and I am not some incredible player. My avg was below .200, but my ERA stayed under 1 on that run.
-
Get good. Jk, that is a lot of innings. I'm sure they'll reduce later in the game cycle.

its best for the game. Win rewards made it impossible to play full games which is why we all play, to have a baseall game, not a matter of quit because i'm losing, quitting shouldnt be rewarded.

Keep in mind that my biggest issue is just the number of innings. I just don't have enough time, if I grind this, I don't get to play any of the other modes. Hopeful they do reduce the number of innings, but if its late in the year I'll just have to buy the cards I don't get. Glad that I'm not the only one that thinks 400 innings is a lot.
In regards to people quitting last year. Not sure how many people have fun getting beat by 7 or eight runs. I bet most people like to play a competitive close game. You don't always have that. Still a believer that the full games truly only helps content creators.

i understand down 7, but people would quit last year down 1 run in the first inning, ranked cards shouldn't be easy to be obtained considering its a "ranked" playlist, they catered enough last year, they're making the game a spread out grind again.

Combination of Wins and Innings might make more sense than XP since they'd have to program a whole RS specific XP calculator (otherwise people just going to grind RTTS for World Series rewards).
Similar to BR program, make it so XX number of wins gives you points towards the WS reward, or maybe getting a W adds a 1.5x or 2x multiplier to your inning count.
Personally I like the change to innings because its frustrating watching someone quit the minute they give up a single run. Plus if you're playing at a higher rank or a better opponent, you can still play a game and lose and still make progress to that WS reward even if you're losing ranking points.
-
The whole point of the system is to encourage people to play as many games as possible. Ranked should be about reaching 900 not just winning x number of games, ranked should be way more fun this year considering you always progress win or lose. Either was ranked was great in up until 21. 21 brought out the worst of everyone that was just taking advantage a win system. Players in the 400s-500s should actually be able to compete again. Last year those players lost enjoyment of the game because of the tanking, Would have high level players purposely losing to de rank and get easy wins.
-
The other thing the change was meant to combat was people who would play at the lower levels to get wins, then when the opponents got stronger they would just start a bunch of games and keep quitting until they were back in the lowest divisions to rack up easy wins against weaker opponents.
So, the exploiters are to blame. Like many games the exploiters ruin it for those who don't exploit.
-
Sure there is- to have fun, sharpen skills, gain XP for the programs, get packs etc etc
-
I can see both sides. But this is what happens when SDS tries to cater to everyone. Making online skill-based rewards available for average players has to be infuriating for the WS crowd, but the inning total is just insane.
Can's see myself playing RS because neither method now will work for me.
Not good enough to make WS, not willing to invest the time to get to 400 innings because it would be the only mode I'd be able to play.
On to BR! then I'll use those cards to get the RS rewards OR keep them depending on which ones are better.
-
I agree in general on innings, if not a lot of people grind it they might reduce the innings. Also a decent idea to give bonus for DS and higher or something. I personally am not going to play a ton of ranked seasons as it seems like just too much and i'd rather put energy towards other modes. Some people do grind ranked seasons like crazy so they might not change it, hard to say. I won't blame them if they don't i just think slight tweaking is a good idea.

So I haven't played Ranked Seasons yet, but I'm I reading this right? 400 innings nets the world series reward? I mean I LOVE THAT IDEA...to combat dashboarding...love it.

I didn't realize there was a change until I saw it, but yes - innings played is one way to earn rewards.

Quitting down 7-8 runs is one thing. But in my experience, and I’m not very good online, pretty much anytime I went up a run or two, I would either get a friendly quit request, and outright quit or a dashboard. It doesn’t break my heart because I’ll take the win but it is kind of lame to not finish a game.
