I guess I’m lucky, my BA with Betts is around .320.
and with Semien?
I'll speak for @iBonafideScrub_ . He's hitting .580 in 600 AB's with Marcus. So, the theory still makes sense.

I just got done playing an Event game against a dude with a World Series icon and a 12-0 banner. His leadoff hitter was Mookie Betts, and I got a little glimpse of his numbers with him. He was hitting .225 with Betts.
I immediately knew I was up against a monster, cause my own batting average with Betts is .161, and I've used him enough to get him to P4.
I don't think I've ever played anyone that was hitting well with Betts. Anyone with decent numbers with Betts has at least 6 other players on their team with even better numbers, IMO.
So we can conclude that this Betts card can't hit, which isn't a surprise, cause no Betts card has ever been very good. But why?
2 Part Theory:
-
Betts is a RHH and Degrom and Cabrera are both RHP. Relevant particularly for this event, but also overall. In my case, five out of six online at bats have been against RHP, and this is a large sample size. So that's tuff. But Marcus Semien is also a RHH, so there must be more, and that's this:
-
Betts is classified as an "extreme pull" hitter. Have you ever tried to pull a ball in this game? Any swing even a millimeter on the early side of perfect, on any ball down the middle or anywhere inside, high or low, will be pulled foul. Perfect/perfect foul balls (always on the pull side) are a thing in this game. This results in all of Betts' best contact simply sailing harmlessly foul on the pull side.
Conclusion:
Betts is a liability at the plate. If you can hit with Betts and have good stats with him, I might believe you, but first show me your stats with Semien. I guarantee you Betts is doing worse. The conclusion is, avoid pull hitters.Interesting. I have Betts at parallel 5 and am hitting like .265 with him. I have semien parallel 3 and am batting around .350 with him. If Betts wasn't a collection reward, let's say he was a WS or inning boss, he wouldn't even be on my squad. I use him out of guilt. He will eventually be on the bench as a lefty killer/pinch runner/defensive replacement.
THIS!! EXACTLY! Wouldn't be a starter on my team either. I regret putting all those stubs into him, even though its all gonna go towards Kershaw anyways. Wish Betts couldve been a ticket for Kershaw atleast
I don't regret getting him because he allowed me to get Kershaw, who I think is amazing, and will then lead to another collection. I don't think Kershaw was the last big collection. At this point, I have 2.5 mil stubs, Kershaw and almost every card in the game except some big boys. I can always buy them if needed. Some youtubers think mookie is the best card in the game and they rake with him. As for me I get a lot of line-out and fly balls that I feel should be hits or hrs. Seems like most of his perfect perfects are singles.

I was just telling someone today that Betts is the single best card in the game. Have him Parallel 5 and his average is well over 400 for me (all All Star Events but still - 202 Online ABs, .413, 26 HR). To each their own but Mookie is definitely not broken.

Lol all all stars events. No card sucks on all star.

I kind of wish there was a [censored] emoji next to the heart as I would just selected that for your condescending post vs having to write all these words……

My Betts card is almost P4 and I’m hitting .402. Some people play different with each card.

In a round-a-bout way, he already is a ticket for Kershaw, in that all the categories needed for him, are also needed for Kershaw. Even if he was a ticket, he would be worthless. The numbers required for Kershaw, exceed the category numbers required for Betts, so what good would a Betts ticket be, unless they let you skip two categories for Kershaw.
this would be one less ticket that we would have to come up with for kershaw
Instead of needing 15 out of16, you would need 16 out of 17. It's all a wash.

Mookie is another level. Absolutely love this card
-
I hit .400 with betts and like .315 with everyone else at best. Just say you can't hit with short players and go on with your day
-
I think he's pretty excellent. Probably the best all-around card in the game.
-
I was hitting around .200 with him as of yesterday. Worst average by far of anyone in my starting lineup. My TV has been flickering a bit lately, so I switched to my monitor. He went 9/16 with at least 2 homeruns.
Obviously the monitor helps a bit, but I wasn't exactly struggling when hitting with anyone else. Maybe he needed that extra fraction of a second to really pull the ball.
-
I will eventually get betts as I collect cards from TA4 and other programs to come. But I will not spend a dime actually unlocking him never worth it.
-
I started slow with him. My avg was near .130. I put him all over in my line up. I usually don’t do well with collection rewards for some reason. I finally went into practice mode against Nolan. I think I was able to figure out his swing after a few grueling hours lol. I now have his avg around .240.

Just out of curiosity, would you say that you're a "pull" hitter in MLBTS? Personally, I'm a "Derek Jeter" type and hit the ball to the opposite field a lot. Probably because I'm old and my reflexes ain't what they used to be.
-
Mookie hits some crazy line drive home runs but he does tend to pop out a lot. I'd be hard pressed to find a better player that plays so many positions at a high level though.
-
I never can seem to find where it shows if players are classified as a "pull hitter". Can you find it outside of in game?
-
Betts is my best hitter. I think some people might struggle with him because he is a pull hitter and inside outlier gives some people fits. If you can hit inside heat, this card mashes.

If you only have p3 with Semien, it leads me to believe that you stopped using him in ranked a while ago. Meaning his at bats were earlier in the year when the pitching was not elite. Batting 350 against Corben Burns and Crochet is not better than 265 against Verlander and Degrom.

So I play on a monitor (44 so need all the help I can get with timing) so it’s a bit easier to be early. I generally cheat my PCI down and in with righty hitters so am deliberately trying to be early - yes. Just seems like in general you are rewarded a lot more for being early. Nothing worse though than being “too early” and getting that gut punch HR foul….
-
I usually have my pci up and in with all hitters but I found that with Mookie I can set it middle in and react better to the slider while still turning on the up and in fastball.
