Now that Topps is dead and it's all gonna be SDS card art, let's talk about this Signature Series mess
-
Collect all AL LS players including Trout and you get a really nice card, a 99 David Ortiz. It has a bland light grey background which doesn't contrast well with Ortiz' light grey uniform, none of which contrasts well with the white signature field covering the bottom quarter of the card. The Red Sox "B" is only half shown, because the bottom half is covered up by the white part of the autograph field.
Make World Series and you get a really nice card, a 99 Francisco Lindor. It has a bland grey background which doesn't contrast well with Lindor's white uniform, none of which contrasts well with the white signature field. The bottom part of the Indians' "C" is covered up by the autograph field.
Go 12-0 in Battle Royale and you get a really nice card, a 99 Aroldis Chapman card. It has a bland grey background which doesn't contrast well with Chapman's grey uniform, none of which....you get the idea. I could go on.
Hopefully SDS is able to hire one or two of the Topps people for future card art.

Topps has a while to go. Maybe longer than SDS does with baseball. IDK how long SDS deal is with MLB. But either way, SDS does all the special card art. And for the record I think the Sig series cards are beautiful.
-
you must play all your games in April, overcast. Grey on grey on grey! Then there's the awards series. Where the Sig Series is grey, the Awards series is black!
And they don't stop there. The milestone series is just light grey or light blue backgrounds, ad naseum.
Now look at that 1975 bronze Hank Aaron veteran card. Look at that card art. That's a thing of beauty. That was Topps.
-
Guess I'm the only one who likes the card art of both Signature and Awards.
Guess I'm boring.
Milestone is definitely lame though.

You're not the only one. I like both of them, but it's not like I sit around looking at the cards either. Acquire them, play them.

Question is will they still have rights to all the retro cards or will topps still maintain rights to the cards of the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and so on.....mind you I believe this year is my last....no murphy, William's, dawson....too many good names lost
-
OP would prefer the original Topps art which, up until a few years ago, was always a posed portrait at spring training.
-
I love to look at the card art when I play.
I even look at the game box art as I'm playing.
Smh..... -
Who cares. Its a digital card art. SDS got alot more problems to deal with
-
I care that's who. I didn't realize you're the authority on what's to care about. Next thing I think about caring about something I will text you. For sure bro.

I could go for some Vincent Van Gogh inspired cards. I'm sure @raesONE_PSN would agree.
Or even better, how about Jackson Pollack? Here's my favorite interpretation... Tim Anderson's new LS Diamond card, coming this Friday:

Fanatics takes over for Topps in years and SDS will just use the Fanatics design.
