So I got this idea while listening to the Starting 9 Podcast. Pick the four players from your favorite team that had the biggest impact/most success in their time there.
As a Rangers fan my Mt. Rushmore would have to be:
Nolan Ryan
Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez
Michael Young
Adrian BeltreReal Yank fan here. Started in 87 and see some horrible teams. Here I go,
1-Mickey Mantle
2-Lou Gehrig
3-Joe DiMaggio
And a little curveball. Just because of the clutchness and always getting that big hit or defensive play when it mattered most
5-Derek JeterHow the Hell do you have a Yankees list and omit Babe Ruth? Hes the best player in baseball history, let alone Yankees history.
History? There were better all around players than Ruth brother. You can make the argument about being the best hitter in history. I got the reaction I wanted though I know someone was gonna mention that. Trust me if Mantle didn't seriously damage his body specifically his knees his HR #s might have been higher than Ruth's. Also was a switch hitter and a 5 Tool player
My man, Ruth is #1 in WAR all time. He also was the best LHP in baseball for a 2 year stretch. He had a pitching WAR of 8.8 and 6.5 in 1916 and 1917. Name someone else that had a pitching WAR of 8.8 and a batting WAR of 14.1 in their careers. You cant.
He completely redefined the game. Every HR he hit between #138 and #714 was the new record, and he did it while having a career batting average of .342.
The House that Ruth Built.
His WAR is crazy I know. I agree with you as well. I didn't add him because IMO thats a given. His WAR is like 162 or something and if you add pitching its like 180 or something. If I had a draft and had my choice off any player ever I'm not taking Ruth, I'm taking a healthy Mantle.. If you are going by that metric for hitting alone I believe Bonds is a tick higher. I also made the argument because you said best player not best hitter. There are some like Mantle and Mays who had the speed and crazy defense. IMO that factors into best player taking into account the other facets. Again if you said best hitter I would agree. I will not agree all around player goes to Ruth. Don't forget about Ted Williams also. He lost 5 years I'm his prime fighting in a real WAR. He might have passed everyone in most categories if we talking straight hitting. When best ever comes up I take into account the overall body of work brother.
The best player argument is exactly why I brought up his pitching. He had 94 wins! Career ERA of 2.28. That's better than Jacob deGrom, in nearly the same amount of innings. To me, factoring in his pitching is much more substantial than fielding prowess when it comes to defense.
With that said we agree!!!

Not my fave team but how bout the Expos?

Jose BautistaSorry Robbie, you were carved out
Dude, gotta have George Bell...
Meh.. he had an MVP sure, though it's one he shouldn't have won.. but other than that, he was kind of overrated. I'd go Vernon or Joe Carter over him. Joe for his postseason heroics, Vernon for his 5 tool game..
Josh Donaldson in his first 2 years as a Jay produced the same WAR George Bell did in a decade lol
Shannon Stewart

Yeah, just liked watching him. Grew up with Moseby and Barfield.

For a franchise that is as old as the White Sox, we have had a lot of really productive players that are "names" in our history but they don't mean as much to baseball history. Which is why I feel that my list is possibly very controversial. I'm not including the likes of Ted Lyons, Ed Walsh, Luke Appling, Minnie Minoso, Nellie Fox, [censored] Allen or Ed Collins. The team's history has changed so much over the years, that it almost feels like they were a different team altogether. So with that said, here's my faces of Mt. Rushmore that all White Sox fans should know/remember. They represent what it means to be a member of the Chicago White Sox better than any other players in the history of the game, in my opinion.
Chicago White Sox
Frank Thomas
Mark Buehrle
Jose Abreu
Paul KonerkoHonorable Mentions: Harold Baines, Robin Ventura, Chris Sale, Carlton Fisk and Luis Aparicio
-
Dodgers
Robinson
Kershaw
Koufax

As a Ranger's fan I do not choose to recognize Bautista lol
"Well Odor is now 2 for 5 today..."
Rather get sucker punched in May than knocked out twice in a row in October
Sucker punch???? They were face to face and Bautista was looking right at him before he got jacked up... that is not a sucker punch... a sucker punch is a punch you never seen coming. He didn't get sucker punched, he just got layed out and he came at him so he got what he was looking for.
-
Boston Red Sox:
David Ortiz
Ted Williams
Carl Yastremski
Pedro Martinez
...lot of great Red Sox players could replace Pedro on this list, but Pedro had a great career here and was part of the team that finally broke the curse. Ortiz is easily the most beloved Red sox player in my time... He might even be bigger than Brady in this state. -

WAR is all well and good, but this is the Mount Rushmore list. For me, these have to be the ones who not only contributed greatly but also at critical times. Jose Bautista had a great run but several of his best years were on also-ran teams. In contrast, Joe Carter came over in the 'blockbuster trade' pre-1991 and went on to post 4 consecutive 100+ RBI seasons while being a big part of the clubhouse 'glue' of the Jays team that won 3 division titles and 2 WS titles in that 4 year span. YES it matters!!!!

April 29th, 1986, a date that will live in infamy. The first ever 20 strikeout game, matched by only 3 pitchers since: 1) Clemens himself in Sept. 1996, Kerry Wood in 1998 and Max Scherzer in 2016!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love Roger Clemens. He was my idol, as I stated before. But a lot of Red Sox fans hate him. That's why I said it. If you ask Boston fans, I'm sure they would put Boggs or even Dwight Evans ahead of the Rocket.

Agree with this. Though it's kind of their fault for giving up on him, only for him to shove it in their face with back to back triple crowns on their rival, then get traded to their even bigger rival and help the Yankees win 2 WS

So your reasoning is Joe Carter just so happened to be lucky to play on a stacked team and Jose didn't?
The other reason is RBI? Lol
Joe Carter didn't win those titles. In fact, he's easily the 5th most valuable player on that '93 team. Alomar, Olerud, Molitor, and White were far better. .300 OBP's don't exactly help teams that much.
Joe was probably 4th on his '92 team too. Alomar, Winfield and Devon White being better.Bautista did everything in his power to try, and save for one year where JD won mvp, he was always the most valuable on the teams he played for.
