X-Box X-Plainers II: Inside Edge
-
Watching yesterday's Feature Premiere reminded me of something that our new XBox brethren may not be familiar with: Inside Edge. Let's help 'em out by explaining.
- What is Inside Edge?
Inside Edge is a company that analyses MLB data and provides predictions (https://www.inside-edge.com/). For Live Series cards, it predicts a player's expected performance given various factors (what team are they facing? what pitcher? Home/Away? Day/Night?) and boosts or decreases the card.
For example, in the stream yesterday they showed Fernando Tatis Jr.s. card. It's apparently normally rated as an 88. But because of Inside Edge, it was playing as a 90. (https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EyiNaw5WEAAAly3?format=png&name=360x360)
- Why does SDS do this?
It's fun. It brings a little bit of variety. And it gives people a reason to use Live Series cards, especially early in the year.
- How often does the Inside Edge rating change?
It can change every day. It doesn't always change (in case you don't know, Mike Trout is really good at baseball, so he's almost always playing with a maxed-out Inside Edge.) but it has the potential to.
- How much can it change?
The maximum Inside Edge can change is +5/-5.
- So if I have an 84, and Inside Edge turns it into an 85, I can go quicksell the card at Diamond value?
No. Inside Edge does not affect a card's market value.

I'll add 2 things:
- If the players team doesn't play that day. IE is removed. (I can't recall 100% but IE may also not apply if the player is on the IL).
- Always check the card details when they have a positive/negative IE. Often you may see a Lefty with a down IE and its because he is also facing a lefty pitcher and hes losing big contact/power vs Left....but you may notice the Vs R attributes remain unchanged. If you get into a game with a righty on the mound...this IE means nothing. The short explanation -- don't just use or avoid a card because it has a big boost/drop. What stats are affected is important.

Well said! I wanted to talk about this, but could not explain it as well! Very glad you did. THIS IS HUGE when it comes to talking about DD.
It can also be a strategy tool for BR and Events for future projections of Starting pitcher match ups, or Hitters that might have day off and choose somebody for your bench in case you are still using team in a day or two.
Two Thumbs up for this thread.

I wonder if the live series players will be rated as poorly as last years. The ratings were so off I thought. Nobody even used them that much

I'm really looking forward to inside edge being back this year. It really allows you to take advantage of some silvers and gold's early on while working to build out the squad.

I feel like people are overlooking this important info.
