I mean it's more than just San Diego fans that have gone gaga for Tatis Jr, not really a hometown thing, people are seriously saying he's a top 5 player in baseball right now. (Which he might be, but personally I wouldn't go that far yet.)
Dude is legitimate though. Would be interested in seeing a full season out of him.
He will be wearing a Dodgers uniform by then.
More like knocking dodgers out of the postseason.
Agreed

Just for kicks, who you got?
Well Trout obviously, Juan Soto, Mookie Betts. Maybe a controversial pick but I'd have Freddie Freeman in there. And then probably Judge, though that's obv when healthy.
So if Judge didn't qualify, I guess I'd have either Tatis Jr or Story, so I guess Tatis is right there even in my rankings.
- Edit, I forgot about Acuna, so prob swap either Judge or Freeman for that-
Hey I’m not here to debate or argue Because its highly subjective to some degree but Freeman really pokes my curiosity. No doubt he’s a great ball player but he doesn’t play a prime position nor does he have much speed. The other (including Tatis) are all legit 5 tool players (minus Judge)

I just really like guys who get on base consistently throughout their career, and Freeman has been a model of consistency with his bat.
I know he's not playing at the most athletic position and that he doesn't have speed, which is why I said it's probably controversial, I doubt the majority of people would put him in the top 5, but I feel like he may get dinged a bit to much because of where he plays.

A betting man might say, in the 14 years since the Padres last sniffed the post season, the Dodgers have done it 9 times and the Padres have never knocked the Dodgers out of the postseason.
Big market teams never suffer the smaller guys for very long, but maybe the Padres will be this year's 2015 Royals.

Freddie is underrated in the baseball world. If he didn’t get hurt or had elbow issues in the last 10 Yrs, he would be top notch with a gold glove. Kinda like Votto in his prime.

I live in San Diego and watch every Padres game. He 100% deserves those attributes in a juiced monthly awards card. He should also be equipped with a quirk that makes dusty live veterans cards turn into prime versions and bronze live rookies into future star versions when he is in the lineup

The Padres are def going for it this year. I don’t see them staying “in the game” for very long. Not like the Dodgers anyway.

Why not?
They have Tatis for 4 more years,
Machado at least 4, Hos (5), Myers (2), Crone (5), Nola (4), Grisham (5), Pham (1) and Moreland (1) locked up for awhile. The rotation has Clev (2) Lamet (3) Davies (2) Paddack (4) plus Patino and Gore.
The bullpen with Pagan and Pomeranz and a notoriety for building bullpens.
Still have the second best farm with Campusano, Abrams leading the way among others.
I’m not gonna say this team will ever reach dodger level of consistency, that would be silly.
But this core is set for awhile with reinforcements and flexibility to trade on the way for years to come.

Because they won't be able to afford to keep that core together for more than 2 years. Sad reality of a small market team.
Enjoy it while it lasts, because the Dodgers (or Yankees) will come knocking.

This sounds like a guy who drives a rusted out Ford Pinto critiquing Sir Stirling Moss lol.

It just made me chuckle. Reminded me of the buffalo bills lol.
Don’t hate the Dodgers. Respect what they’ve built even with the massive payroll compared to what they were at the beginning of the Spectrum(?) deal and the McCourts. Was pretty gutted for Kershaw during the NLCs. Wouldn’t mind them winning one out of 10.

Definitely will, small market teams only get certain windows. Well aware of that, But you have about most of those guys on pre arbitration years or on locked in contracts. They have the 8th highest salary. It’s not like we are the A’s or Marlins here.
I can see this team fighting for the wild card and being remotely competitive for the next 5 years which is a huge upgrade. Which is much higher than what it’s been.

Don't get me wrong, the Padres have a great team, I'm just sorry that they won't be able to keep it for long the way MLB works. They might get 3 chances at a WS ring before they get gutted and as we've seen, some teams can't do it in 9.

I love your enthusiasm... reminds me how I felt about Tim Hudson in his rookie year. I dare say there’s a bit of a homer in that high praise, but he certainly has the potential to be something special for a long time. I definitely can’t say you’re wrong.
I’d love to see a couple Oakland vs. San Diego World Series matchups In the next five years, but that’s a tangent; enjoy this, Padres fans. It’s so [censored] rare, and so much fun... best of luck to those gentlemen in brown and yellow.

I love 'Taydees' myself, lol.
Pre-Satellite radio Howard Stern fans will get that one. -

It was a Monthly award card and he was definitely top 5 player for the Month. For a whole, full, season you are probably right. He would maybe finish in the top 5. He hasnt proven he can yet, as he is very young and getting better. And the biggest problem with younger players is consistency. There are dozens of guys in the Minors that can have Months like Tatis Jr just had. But will never play in the Majors for long because of consistency. So yes, he will have to prove he has that. But he is well on his way.
