Hopefully they get rid of all offline grinds for DD. If your scared to play online do franchise.
It always puzzles me with these type of posts and the other end of the spectrum that turn their nose at DD and those that play it Like, guys there is a middle ground.
It's a troll post, #1 who is scared to play online? #2 Franchise is nothing like DD so not sure how that is a substitute. #3 SDS largely ignores franchise so clearly they want us to play DD.
I dont play online because I hate people, people with [censored] poor attitudes, basically guys like this troll. Here on the forums I can block him, but you can block people all you want on PSN and still get matched up with them.
Not trying to start anything but what do you mean by people with poor attitudes? Like how they play the game?
Cheese players exploiting every AI issue, then getting messages from people who when I get lucky and win a game and told I am a terrible player who should have lost and only won because I had all immortals. And with messages off they send a friend request with their toxic message. I can go on and on, I know you all love H2H, but you guys take winning and losing too seriously like it's the end of the world to take a loss. So I don't play, it's not worth it. Yes it's not every game. And if there wasnt cheesers or bad attitude guys I'd probably feel different. but I am also not buying a monitor to gain an advantage either. Oh and let's not even talk about lead offs.
Seems like you had a bad experience in years past. All you have to do is turn messages on for Friends only, no messages can be sent to you and there will always be cheesier but harder to do in 19.
I did, they sent a friend request with the message to get around the fact I had messages off.
No I have had a lot of bad experiences playing H2H.
i did get that a couple times this past year - not a big deal though words mean nothing when its random like that just a quick delete button they gone forever
Good for you, it is not an enjoyable experience and have no reason to keep putting myself in those situations. What bothers me is that I can block these people and still get matched up with them. At least on TSN when I deal with online tough guys I can block them and they are gone forever.
too bad that's your experience mate. for me its around 1 in 10 games i don't keep track but the bad ones are rare
1 in 10 isnt that rare if you are playing 100s of games each year. Especially when you play events that are 3 to 6 innings. If I need 50 event wins it will take me 80 to 90 games that's at least 8 to 9 knuckleheads. At least with events when I get matched up with a guy who wants to steal every base and take a step lead every time and I step off for 5 minutes. i can quit lose my streak and move on. But RS is the worst nothing aggravates me more than the thought of a 9 inning game against a cheeser.
ok big differences here though if you are going to be specific about the modes -
EVENTS - who cares to just Q a game if someone is annoying? the rankings there? who cares right. i Q all the time in events if something is annoying me, it means nothing and i usually rake in there anyways
Ranked Seasons - i did 164 games this year (tried to make it like a real season) - i don't play hundreds of games for this to make a difference
That is still 16. If I could block them and never play them again, I'd probably go back. But they cant do that because people would block elite players.
So my solution is simple. i dont play people online H2H any more. It isnt any less fun, but it limits what I can achieve. I am locked out of certain cards because of it. I do not ask them to make changes for the game for me, I would like them to make it is so I have an opportunity to get those same cards, even if its via market. I also dont ask them to make things specific to offline so you guys dont have to grind endless hours on rookie. I just don't liked to be put down for playing the game in a different way than you do.
everything you said i agree with except your last sentence - no one is putting you down on the contrary my past msg's to you says by all means whatever you enjoy play it - you are not the target of the "whiney boy offline" persona here - i get everything you are saying
"Offline nerds" not highly offensive, but a bit derogatory.
ok so im an online nerd - its all semantics at this point
Just making sure, I might have been overly sensitive at the moment I read it. It's just a pet peeve of mine when I feel like people are being judged for how they play the game as long as it doesn't affect others. I have no desire to ruin other people game playing experience, probably what bothers me about being told I suck because I had all immortals. I keep coming back to that one because it was the last time I played RS.
I understand many many people are jerks, and maybe it's not my place to offer you advice, but at least imo, F what people think about me you know? I just laugh if I get a message like that, and I've gotten some real harsh ones, including ones telling me to off myself
It used to bother me, (and honestly occasionally it does, especially if it is along the lines of my previous example), but I try to not live where I care if people insult me. Maybe you are not doing that, you just know your limits and I can respect that.
Like I said, I'm not consistent, it still does at times, and I don't want to tell you how to live your life, if you feel it's not worth the headache, then that's the right decision for you. Playing offline is just as legit as playing online, and I do wish there were more offline content, (like maybe a bit harder type of conquest? I loved the variety of maps, but most were pretty simple).
I intend to stay far away from H2H, unless there is a Reds card that can only be had by playing online. I played a lot online in 17, mostly the events so I could sell the rewards for stubs, but on 18 the souvineers were stub making machines and so it was easy to stay away. I didn't play 19 in an attempt to save my marriage, well that is no longer a concern so I'll play 20, but no clue how I'll make stubs outside of the normal market flips. I dont even have PS plus anymore because I dont play any game but the show.
Gotcha, well in 19 there really wasn't an online card that wasn't also obtainable via the market. I remember in 18 there was cards like Immortal Ryne Sandberg there were WS rewards and non-sellable, they did away with that. All WS rewards were sellable. And the market was super easy to work if you got comfortable with it, towards the end I was making 100k-250k an hour flipping.
Yeah, that is what I am hoping for. As long as I can get every Reds card in the game I will be happy, that is the only mission I set for myself. In 18 I wanted all immortals, but didnt get Musial and Sandberg.
-
The best part of 18’s stat grind was using cards from different series to acquire stats. The worst part of 18’s stat grind was having to use specific cards to get a stat...looking at you Joe Torre.
The only redeeming value of 17’s stat grind was that you were forced to play some of your Vs. CPU games outside of Rookie...win x games against the cheating Astros on All-Star.
The best part of ‘16’s grind was that you collected your stats and earned rewards by reaching milestones naturally.
The downside to 19’s moments grind were the RTTS elements. Get 2 assists in RF with with no balls being hit to RF. Record 3 steals when there is always a runner at 2b.
If only SDS could combine all of the positives and drop some of the negatives.

Him and the other people in this thread were able to have a civil discussion and somewhat understand each other’s point-of-view.
Then we have you on the other hand...

The worst part of playing online is people are trying to win more than trying to play the game like it's a baseball game. Throwing slow pitches above the zone or high is the most prevalent but almost nothing is as bad as somebody who is representing how the game, constantly doing base running cheese all the time.

It honestly bums me out that other people have spoiled your desire to play H2H. There are some pretty horrible people in the world when it comes to sending vitriol. If its any consolation, you see it less and less as you move up the rankings. There are always going to be players who go out of their way to use exploits to win (high sinkers, baserunning bs, etc.)
Playing solid, well-played, respectable H2H games is one of my favorite experiences, win or lose. And it's a bummer that the toxicity of people ruin that experience for others. I play themed friendlies and they're a lot of fun. If you ever want a clean friendly game against a person, I'm down. Maybe joining a custom league with some decent, non-cheesy people in 20 will help restore your faith in H2H.
TL;DR - I totally get where you're coming from.

Was going to suggest the same. Custom leagues is definitely a step in this direction. Good honest people will form good honest leagues. Very excited about this.
Of course there will be the riff raff but you’ll get to know who to stick with.

Custom leagues will hopefully be great but, from the screenshots I've seen so far, it looks like it will either be real live rosters or your DD team (with overall restrictions if so chosen). Meaning you will still need to build up your team, you can't just play with whatever cards you want.

What I meant was that if a new card comes out, you will have to earn/buy that card in DD in order to use it in your league. AKA it doesn't work like some people who thought they could "ignore" DD and only play online via custom leagues unless they "play the market" etc. If you want to play with that 12-0 card in your league, you will have to either go 12-0 or get enough stubs to buy that card.

great point. this is why i let the other guys handle the rules and technicals......
right now we have shifted our discussions a bit to see if we just do 1 MLB team per player in the league

In my opinion the grind was just playing the game, you got XP and stubs for whatever mode you played in and I liked that!
I think using March to October for stat grinds makes sense.
Personally I found in 2018 you had to make a decision to either play the game or grind first inning on coors and I just didn’t find that to be fun. I would prefer to play the game vs the computer rather then get 3 doubles with a silver 2b in a game.
If they added stat grinds such as innings pitched in any mode or games played in okay with that.
Also moments are just glorified stat grinds really, take player X do task with said player. The grinds were there people just didn’t do them since there was better/ different ways to rank up and get rewards

There is absolutely no doubt that the top of the 1st at Coors grind was terrible and I and I suspect most every one else would agree that we do not want that back.
As long as it is not "you must accumulate online" like 17 was for Griffey, then I will be happy, I am not going to cry about offline guys not having enough to do. If I dont have enjoyment playing with my favorite cards in vs CPU or conquest, then why am I playing.
Side note I actually like conquest and because of the stupid stat grinds of 18 I didnt get to play it as much as I did 17. Also I did not buy 19 so I have no experience in what it was like. But didnt sound bad to me. Not to be a broken record. I just want to have an opportunity to get the cards I want without having to play online. Just as online guys don't want to have to play offline.

Conquest was pretty good in 19, it def was a step "down" in difficulty, but there were so many maps, it kept you engaged most of the year doing the new maps that came out.
