Problem with Tatis grand slam while up big?
-
In my opinion a batter goes up to the plate with one objective. Get a hit. If it's a home run even better. Tatis is a guy who should always have a green light on 3-0 i don't care what the score is. I've watched games that are way more high scoring then this and i've never seen a player hold back.
The Rangers are babies for beign upset over this in my opinion but the manager of the Padres should also be embarrassed.
On a side note Tatis is just incredible, great player.

Swing away kid, swing away!

Can he be himself without showing up the other team? Him being general, not Tatis specifically. There's a time and place for celebration.
I have to be honest, I subscribe to a lot of these unwritten rules.
“Showing up the other team” is usually a complaint motivated by sour grapes more than anything though. Do you consider a bat flip showing up the other team? or a 3-0 grand slam? or when Harper sprinted around the bases on his walkoff grand slam last year? If you think displays of emotion after a triumph are inherently “showing up the other team,” then I would say the problem rests with you. If we’re talking about hurling insults or flipping off the other team while rounding the bases, then we can have a discussion.
But in my experience, that phrase or similar sentiments are usually directed at the former.

It's very, very situational to me and depends on context. Does the game mean something? Is it the first or the 9th inning? Do you gave a big rivalry with this team or is it just another game?
There's a time and place for big celebrations, game 103 isn't one of them. Act like you've been there before.
You can celebrate without being an A-hole.

hey they can do what they did with Barry just intentionally walk him with the bases loaded
.Yeah but to be honest with you that was more of a middle finger to him for be such a pompous jack***
No it absolutely was not. No one is going to walk a run in up by 2 because they think someone has a bad attitude. It was a sounds strategy against the best player in baseball at the time.
You can think what you want about that situation but the contempt in the tone of Buck Showalter’s voice spoke volumes when he said that he wasn’t going to allow that individual to beat him in a post game interview. Certainly didn’t sound like he had any respect for him whatsoever.
-
They are professionals. The pitchers gets paid to getter batters out and batters get paid to produce. Dont like him swinging 3-0? Maybe the pitcher should not have been outside the zone three straight times and then grooved a fastball on the fourth pitch. And who cares if you celebrate. I'm old school but if a guy takes you deep he should be able to do whatever he wants because you just got owned.

This takes me back to when dodgers hit 4hr in a row to tie a game vs the Padres in the bottom of the 9th and than won it in extra innings I believe it was in 2006. It is baseball and you never know what will happen. Fans were already leaving the stadium and then were trying to get back in. I never leave a game early. It was Jeff Kent, JD Drew, Russell Martin and Marlon Anderson. Nomar Garciaparra hit a two run shot to walk it off in the 10th. The padres took the lead in the 10th. Dodgers won 10-9 I remember watching this game live on TV. It was crazy.

If he was stealing up 7 that late in a game yeah that’s not right but whoever has an issue with a 21 year old kid hitting a bomb. That’s your loss. Kids special

Some "unwritten rules" I agree with. Like trying to bunt to break up a No Hitter is straight garbage IMO.
Why exactly? It's a perfectly valid way of getting on base. If it's part of someone's skill set, they should use it. Why take that away? Should pitchers only throw fastballs when their team is up big?
Sorry man, maybe I didn't elaborate this well enough. Bottom of 9th and you are down by more than 2 runs with 2 outs and there is a No Hitter going. You are saying you would bunt because it's your skill set???

Why not?
Here is the question from the other perspective: You are a hitter and hit 4 Home Runs in a game. You get to bat. Does the pitcher have to throw you a meatball in order to not rob you of your record making 5th HR?

Swing away.

He should have said he was trying to hit 3 GS in one inning.
What you did there, I see it. Well played.
-
Oh, and the Padres WIll Myers hit a grandslam in the lst inning today vs. the Rangers, LOL!
-
Man, the world today is so soft. In 2004 the Indians beat the Yankees 22 to 0. Yeahhh, your reading that right. They even scored 6 in the 9th, they didn’t lay down. Wether it’s for or against my team.. just play ball! You learn in life from what experiences you’ve had

You're entitled to your opinion, I was asking why you thought that way.
To answer your question, why wouldnt he be allowed to bunt for a hit. Are batters only allowed to swing for the fences because they haven't had a hit yet? Would it be garbage or bush league to go the other way against a shift too?
Their job is to get on base in any way possible. The pitchers job is to prevent them from getting on base in any way possible.

If someone is good at bunting and is that confident.. go for it but that’s your [censored] if you make the third out bunting in that situation. But with these shifts in modern day ball, might not be a bad idea. Your job is to get on base and to help win the game, not worry about your opponent making history.
-
No. Doesn’t matter if he hit the grand slam 3-0 or 3-2. Make better pitches
-
Sorry but the rangers need to stop crying...as an orioles fan I happen to remember a certain game where they beat us 30-3 so
-
If you don't want to give up a grand slam...don't load the bases!
-
I guess the baseball gods are toying around with the Rangers. Padres hit a grand slam for the 3rd game in a row last night.
