I am fairly new to RTTS and in my second season as a 2B/3B. This is my journey so far:

    • Drafted by Phils as a 2B

    • Played really well and they decided to switch me to 3B. I resisted awhile they benched me. I eventually played 3B and got called up to Majors around All Star game.

    • Traded at end of season to Angels for Shohei ohtani. I guess that is a big compliment but ideally wanted to stay a Phil (although they did trade Nola too so no idea what they are doing).

Is it typical to get forced to change positions?
WIll I have a chance to go back to 2B?
Is it common to get traded so quickly, how often should I expect that?

Overall I find it pretty fun, mostly play DD but its a fun change.

I don't think I've ever had a playthrough of RTTS where I haven't been forced to change positions and haven't been traded within the first season or two. It's one of the big reasons I don't mess with RTTS anymore.

I have been forced to play a different position or been forced go go from rotation to the penn. But I NEVER EVER been traded away. I guess cuz each time I spoke with my agent, I told him i was happy with the team also my status remained always at "exceeding expectations" & they couldn't trade me away for what may have been offered in return.

I hate that you can not chose the team of your choice to be drafted to like before. I have to go back to the save point after game 2 just before that actual draft (like 15 times as a pitcher & like 20 times as a catcher) before the Mets finally picked me which was the team i wanted to be in.

That's strange I was able to pick the exact team I wanted to draft me and it was like clockwork (just didn't stay with them long).

Very common to be traded away and/or to change position. Also if you happen to stay on your chosen team the odds are great they will be cellar dwellers while you are there.

If you go to the Sliders, there is a setting for trade frequency. I’m not sure if that is just for other players around the league or for you. But I got traded after about 1.5 seasons (to the stupid Astros), so I set the trade frequency all the way to the highest setting because I wanted to get traded again to a better team. I can’t even remember how many times I got traded before FA, but it was a LOT — I know I went from Houston to St. Louis, then Seattle, then the twins, then back to Houston, and I think went back to Seattle one more time. Once I hit FA I signed a 12-year contract with AZ and I haven’t been traded. I just finished my 4th season in arizona (10th big league season overall)

EDIT: oh and the position switching thing happens to everyone. Once I became established in the big leagues that garbage stopped. At the beginning of this season, my coach asked if I would consider a move to 1B and I told him no. He backed off immediately. But I’m still considering asking my agent to find a trade for me though. I’m holding a grudge that they would ask a gold glove catcher to move positions.

When you first create your player at the end of the showcase you are on the phone with your HS coach. In that conversation he asks if you want to play for a particular team, then goes through what league, what division and then what team. So you can choose what team you want to play for. The forced to another position applied to every player. I it for a 2 week period then either then you get moved back or they will try to get you to switch. If you say no their is no penalty.

RTTS is some amazingly weird stuff. Back in 14 or 15(The game before Kris Bryant was on official rosters because I had to use farm rosters) I had a Giants pitcher who was traded to the cubs along with Pablo Sandoval for Bryant, Baez, and Castro. Junior Lake blossomed into a consistent .320 hitter and 35 HR player. We won 4 straight world series before I got a 350m contract from the Oakland As

Yes, at least one of those things will happen when you are in the minors or early in your MLB career, usually the forced position change, sometimes it will be both.
