Gentlemen, I don't believe we will have an MLB season...

@Ikasnu said in Gentlemen, I don't believe we will have an MLB season...:
We all know the owners don't want to play many games and don't want to pay for more than 48, players want to play games and get paid for every game. MLBPA recently in a statemen said "Whatever, tell us when and where and we will show up".
With everything going on with the MLBPA and the Owners, with everything that happened in our country recently with the riots and protests...
People seemed to have forgotten why we were in a pandemic. New reports are allegedly stating players and staff have contracted the Rona, and with everything going on within the MLB I say Manfred is going to turn the lights off all together for 2020 citing health concerns over the continued spread of Covid.
Its June 15th, we still need at least 2-3 weeks of Summer Training before the season even begins for these players to get even remotely ready. If we have a season it won't start until the 2nd or 3rd week in July, which of course fits the Owners timeframe.
People will say it's a second wave of Covid, I'm sure Manfred will say it that way too despite the fact we never even got passed the first wave.
I honestly don't expect to see one in 2021 either since there will probably be even more labor disputes. How do the rest of you feel about this?
Agreed and been saying this privately once June hit regardless of what was being reported. Lml..Big business first and foremost especially from their point of view. Great post

Yeah I'm as sure as ever now we won't play

I'd rather have no baseball than some of the dumb stuff they're trying to push in right now under the guise of a pandemic.

Yeah not a fan of the runner on 2nd in extras idea.

One question popped into mind when reading Manfred's statement.
"They won't even consider doubleheaders cause medical experts said it's not safe to be around others that long"
my brother loads trucks for FedEx and my other brother works at a grocery store, they work 8-10 hour shifts all the time,so do police/fire,medics and hospital staff.
Why is it ok for us to do it, but it's"just not safe" for them"?
they were at a point where they could've started to repair what had happened, but with the continuing BS, I am at the point now where I'd like them to lose so much money that they are forced to sell the teams.
maybe we'd get some better owners that love baseball. -

Yup, I am good with no season this year, the opportunity to do the right thing passed. As much as I wanted to see how good the Reds would be this year, I dont think a 50 or 60 game season is something I want to see. I also hate how the league was able to use this as a way to shove the DH down our throats.
They canceled the Olympics, those kids have to wait 4 years many wont be able to, I feel way more sorry for Olympic athletes than overpaid baseball players.

So are you telling me the Mariners will be tied for first place all year ? YES!!!! Finally, a winning season !!

I am seriously considering boycotting baseball because of this, which won't affect this year(paid for months ago and I don't buy stubs) but I was looking forward to next year on the ps5.and seeing live games again.
Support SDS, just don't go to any games.
I don't want to punish SDS , but mlb gets(probably huge) chunk of money from the license.
That's something they've already purchased though (SDS/Sony). I doubt they make any revenue from the game itself.
I will most likely get the 21 game, cause that's not fair to SDS,
I'm just so frickin mad at the owners, while both sides make plenty of money,it is really despicable to make them take a pay cut for the same work.Preach to the choir bro. The owners are sucking the life out of baseball and it's going to hurt the league. Baseball had the chance to be the sole saviour of sports, it could have been on its 2nd week of spring training... But owners don't want that. And it's not like Baseball isn't profitable, it's not like these teams aren't making money, all they had to do was defer the remaining % of money throughout the next 5 years and things would have been fine. 2021 would strike and they could have recouped any losses by 2022-2023.
But no.
Baseball had a golden opportunity to capitalize on being the only major sport going, but instead we got this - billionaires crying about being "broke" and throwing away any good will and fans they could have gained. Instead they're losing some of the fan base because of stupid BS
I said this from the get go. Spring training facilities, no locker rooms come dressed to play head home after just like high school, no fans... Televise games all day, captive audience. Summer of baseball saving America from boredom.

Yeah, they could have had so many more people watching the game because everyone is starved for any sport right now, the Korean Baseball Organization has probably gained more fans from this than any American sport, ESPN has been airing their games. What do we get? Owners and players in the news every other hour saying something stupid. We have an agreement, oh no we don't, well maybe, ok just tell us when to show up, etc. Its just stupid. They've been crying for years on how to get younger generations interested in baseball, I can tell you that what both sides have done is not the way to go. I've been a fan since I could watch baseball and I don't really know if I care if they play or not - by the time they start ( if they ever do) your going to have football, basketball about to start up too. So your chance is already gone to get more people watching, it's just asinine and counterproductive. What are the chances that next year we're not just going to have a strike like 94? The CBA is up after next year and I have zero confidence there won't be a strike so what's the motivation to watch a game when your expecting it to end up meaning nothing? SMH, I think this is losing them more in the long term than the short sighted outlook they have for this disaster that they - owners and players both - have created.

True, but hopefully they stick to this rebuilding project and don’t panic and trade prospects for aging players, stick to the rebuild and let the younger players develop ... M’s farm system was decimated by moves like that, because GM’s panic and want to save there job and win now... Let Dipoto do the rebuild, and let’s see where the chips fall ...
