I use Thames, obviously probably the current best 1B in the game who doesn't have many cons besides defense, so I'll talk about who I used before
I used McCovey and he's' honestly one of my favorite swings in the game. He hit over .400, and had 15 walks to 4 strikeouts. He will absolutely destroy the Kluber's of the world
He has a good amount of cons though, I had a lot of issues with lefties (He hit .525 against righties and .267 vs lefties). He's slow, even for 1B standards and his common defense plays exactly like you think it would.

I’m surprised nobody mentioned Daniel Murphy. You should try him out, he’s cheap and by far my favorite first baseman.
You could always platoon him with buster posey if you don’t like the lefty lefty matchup.

Yeah I think Thames is end game (as of who we have now). I'll have to give mccovey an honest effort. His attributes don't jump off the page, but of he's got one of "those swings" then it might be worth it

NM. I’m an idiot. I thought you said Dale Murphy.

Have heard that quite a bit and almost pulled the trigger on him earlier. He's a doubles machine it seems and his defense is rated like 2 tiers higher than I thought it'd be lol

Good stuff Gentlemen. Anyone have an in depth review of McCovey and Miggy?
I’ve always loved Giambi going back to 17 and had him for a while but I grabbed mccovey and plugged him in. Haven’t gone back to giambi in about 40 games. Right now I think mccovey is the best in the game. Insane power and seems to be on every pitch. Probably the best until Gehrig drops or if Ruth has a first base secondary.

He hits bombs against righties too, he hits for more power then his stats suggest. I would recommend trying especially at higher difficulties with that good vision.

McCovey - defense is actually horrific. Had a ball hit him in the chest Happy Gilmore style. Offense - slowest swing in the game. If you mistime a fastball and it’s actually an off speed, it will make it all the way to the warning track. In the event you do hit a homer, it’s a wall scraper.

I just switched to wade boggs and he has been great.

I’ve only done it for the last few games but been running a platoon of Nolan Jones and Evan White.
Pros: both have terrific defense. White has 80 speed. Both hit as well as any other 1B I’ve used when they have the platoon advantage
Cons: taking up 2 roster spots for one position can be annoying and limit you later in the game
Was going to say Evan White as well. He's a lefty fielder which makes him great for pickoffs in addition to his slick fielding, and this dude is just a doubles machine for me. He's actually my best performing hitter right now

Jason Giambi
Pros: Massive power, hits everything in sight great for OPS and a clutch hitter when you need one. (best first baseman in the game so far in my opinion)
Cons: Very slow, it can be hard to get around the bases with him, he's not a great defender and will have his share of miscues. This exactly. I've been using him for a while and I'm not a good hitter at all but he's been among the best on my team. I was worried about his defense initially and he does have his share of miscues for sure, but he is a little better than I originally was anticipating.
He's does a admirable job trying to make plays but he can have his share of um adventures that's call it. I've had a few where he turns his body and then just gives up (mind you that could be the fielding this year in general)
I know exactly what you mean. I just got done playing a game and on a slow roller up the first base line Giambi came charging in and for some reason the ball just rolled right past him. He does get some funky stuff like that but his bat makes up for it, and overall he isn't THAT bad, could be worse.

Future Star Evan White
Pros: Good swing, good power, amazing contact vs lefties, great defense, lightspeed for position
Cons: average against righties, plays for MarinersFuture Star Alec Bohm
Pros: Great offensive stats, solid speed for position
Cons: Swing may take time to adjust to, defense is OKAY, but not great, 6'5", so big boy strike zone -
FOTF Josh Bell (was the second FOTF I completed and still gets playing time on my DD squad)
Pros - switch hitter - nice swing for a big guy - has RF as a secondary position - plays a solid first base - has a decent amount of speed for a first baseman - absolutely MASHES right handed pitching... I’m talking moonshots!!
Cons - struggles a little bit against good left handed pitching - plays well below average at his secondary position (RF)

I have Thames/posey platoon. I was so excited to get Thames, but I’m dead pull with him and if a team is shifted unless I get a HR it’s almost always a guaranteed out. Tried moving him around in the order so he batted with someone on, but can’t seem to make that happen. I’m not great on lefty vs lefty so I put posey as first if I’m facing Hal and pull biggio of the bench.
I haven’t given up on Thames. I know I press with him. Maybe this new event will allow me to get his BA to a respectable level as he has by far the lowest BA if anyone on my team. I stay around 700s so HOF probably has something to do with it (I struggle with trout in HOF as well)

FOTF Rizzo
Pros:
Sweet swing, good power and clutch hitter, good defense.
Cons:
Slow, a little iffy against lefties -

Uhhh. Wut?
it's like someone once told me about FIFA Soccer shortly after I added Messi to my lineup with a lucky card pull. Went on to lose more games with Messi than I won before I added him.
Messi, if you don't know soccer, is arguably the best player in the world.
So, I go off on a forum rant about the lack of impact cards have. Citing Messi as a valid argument. Guy replies, "It's a hopeless and randomized game. To keep your sanity create a team of players you like. When the AI gives you a win..be happy, when the AI hands you a loss at least you lost with a team of likable players" I don't like hardly any MLB players though. All a bunch of douches that, likely, go to etiquette school. Forbidden by their agents to show a personality.
Soccer players, though, have personality. I was able to create a team with guys like Ibrahimovic, Renaldo, Kimmich, etc. Played parity soccer which is typical in these online sports sims..it's how they're built. But, the erratic and questionable game play was a little easier to take.
So, uhhh. Wut.
Messi > Ronaldo

Not in love with any of them. I'm prestige 16 now and can't wait to grab Thames at 25. Though JRam does have a 1B secondary?

Prestige Todd Helton
Pros: makes great contact vs RHP. Diamond defender that makes plays.
Cons: slower than his attributes say I feel. Not a lot of power for a 1B. Doesn’t make consistent contact vs LHP. Not a great arm for cut offs.
He’s been my 1B all year. Tried McGriff because I’m a huge Braves fan, but realized I’d rather have good contact and solid defense from my 1B.
Not sure why you say he doesn’t have power, I mash with that dude vs both lefty’s and righty’s. I also find that he gets perfect perfect contact much more regularly than the other choices out there. Maybe it’s my comfort with his swing or something else but I love Helton as my first base choice.

Filling out first base has been the one roster problem for me on the year. I've just never been fully content with whoever I've put there. Rather than ask who everyone is running at first base, what are some pros/cons of your current 1B?
I'll start: Eddie Murray
Pros: Switch hitter, good fielder, decent contact/power attributes, I trust him
Cons: Slow swing, nothing about him jumps off the page, doesn't intimidate anyone, I don't really trust him
I've used Kiriloff, Nolan Jones, and now I have Posey there.
Posey is a beast

Nice! That was just my take on him. I’m sure he’s better with power for other folks. I don’t really power swing with the bottom of the order as well so that might effect some of it.
