I don’t understand it. It rewards guys for chasing awful pitches. I’ve tried hitting them myself and all I ever get is fly outs
Next years game will also include cricket type homeruns. Skips in front of the plate for a bomb. They will call it the "improved hitting engine".

To everyone saying it happens in real life baseball; yes, it absolutely does happen. Some guys are exceptional. But this is a video game where 1 specific aspect of the game is pitch recognition. Not just the pitch type coming your way, but also the location. Another skill in this game is plate discipline.
If you fail at both (you swing at a pitch that would've been called a ball) I think you need to be penalized with an out, so that next time you get that pitch you'll reconsider before you slam the PCI up and swing instinctively.
Just like real life people have hot zones. If I can get my pci up there on time, just like real life if I can get to a high pitch why does it have to be an out?
Except in real life, HRs on pitches that are that far out of the zone are VERY RARE. When you make contact on pitches that are a foot outside/high/low (I dont think anyone is getting to a ball a foot inside haha), they are usually weak contact outs or weak contact lucky hits. Your average ball player isnt doing anything with that pitch, let alone hitting hit 450 feet.

Yea cus we all stack our lineup with a bunch of average guys lol.
Just because one guy who had extremely great hand/eye coordination doesn't mean anyone can do it. Good hitters let it go by for a ball.

This is a bit exaggerated. MLB players get hits on balls too. The % is low compared compared to hit on strikes. But to say it should automatically be an out is overkill. Especially is you perfectly time a pitch that’s only 1-2 inches off the black
Isn't that exactly what I just said? I said it happens in real baseball and I argued that it shouldn't happen in this game for the reasons I mentioned. Either way, it's just my opinion. I know a lot of people in the community who are not on this forum agree with me, but everyone is obviously still entitled to their own opinion.
So what if you get a pitch on the black? It’s 50/50. If it’s a strike and let it go you’re out. If it’s a ball and swing, you’re also out? Doesn’t make sense

No I was specifically talking about balls well outside the zone, where the whole baseball doesn't touch the corner of the strike zone. Pitches on the black, even if they would be called balls, should be able to result in hits because swinging at those is good pitch recognition; you need to swing at those pitches on the black to fight them off and keep the at bat alive.
So whether it's hitting a moonshot on a fastball way above the zone or pulling a sinker well below the zone into the gap, I know this happens in real baseball but I wish it wouldn't be possible in this game. You need to lay off those pitches and display good pitch recognition/plate discipline and if you don't you need to be penalized imo.

It happens in real life. Some players are notorious for smacking 400+feet on terrible pitches out of the zone. So kind of makes sense.

that was just a short video on the first one i googled. there are numerous examples and videos out there. I names players I have personally seen do it and many times and none of them were even in that video. Just last year, Yordan Alvarez hit an low inside ball that was a foot inside and low. was literally a golf swing of JA HAPP, it went 400. Khris Davis has done it 5+ times a year on high fastballs just like that video and every time people are shocked. Javier Baez also is known for taking pitches way out of the zone yard and often. just saying there are players that are really good at it if they square up and time it. so the same should be in the game. doesn't mean you didn't make it a really hard pitch to hit, but there should always be a window to get the PCI to the ball and in time, and if you do and have the right player (power attribute) then it goes yard and it should happen.

Has to do with launch angle. MLB 20 hitting engine is based on a ball hitting a wall at a set point. so if a ball is hitting the wall at a high spot then a low pitch its going to be a HR.

Video of HR's on FB's high out of the zoneI see some problems with this video. 2 fastballs touched 91, wouldn't happen on 98. Jose's was just above the belt, not that high. Gattis, I'm going to assume it was during trash can season. But then again, how well did he hit in his career?

Believe it or not... Major leaguers can actually hit pitches that are out of the strike zone! Oh my!
Most of the time swinging at a pitch out of the strike zone won't end up to well but hitters mash bad pitches all the time -- see Javy Baez, Vlad Guerrero, etc.

This year 6 inches above is scarier than 2 inches above the zone. I never even through it now. Especially to scrubs, just put it in the dirt and send em on their way. .
I think directional is playing way to high or something. Some guys get three hits all game, all no doubt HRs, all on pitches 4 inches above the zone.

Strange, some guys really only hit that and nothing else. Some guys only hit inside fastballs and nothing else. I thought maybe it was buffed because it’s so strange to watch, then you throw it again and BAM no doubt homerun.

Physics don’t apply in a video game, see the high sinker for a good example
