Is SDS practicing ageism?

Full disclosure- I’m a 42 year old father of twin boys. I’ve been playing this game since inception. I love baseball and this is a hobby of mine. I’m fortunate as I own a fairly successful business and I’m able to spend time and money on this game (mad respect to those who are NMS). I ask this question because pitch speeds in RS seem absurd to me. Maybe it’s my old a** eyeballs or something but I can’t seem to adjust to 102 MPH FB and 80 MPH off speed pitches. It’s absolutely driving me crazy. I’m late on every FB and off speed is just a disaster. Is this game catering to the young guns who have awesome eye site and reflexes? If so, good for you. My old [censored] can’t seem to catch up to anything. It’s super frustrating considering in 19 I was fairly competitive. I made CS pretty much every season I played and pushed WS most seasons. Are FBs OP? Just asking in case any old heads are experiencing the same thing. Before you bust my balls about being old, I get it...you’re a young stud and my reflexes blow...ps....I do use a monitor.

I'm 43 and in kind of the same situation as you. It was great the first week, then they patched in faster pitch speeds and shrunk the timing window. Ever since then I've been having the same problems.
I've never been amazing at the game, usually just ove .500 in rs, but its never felt this hopeless to me.
I think it might have something to do with their servers as well, as every once in a while the sky clears and it feels like I can catch up to things.
But no, its not just you.

I also struggle with the 102mph guys, I'm 38. I normally use strike zone but going up against one of these guys I switch to strike zone 2, which can help a bit.
Also do a quick practice session before playing online. My old [censored] has a much harder time when bouncing around different difficulty moments/showdowns (IE going from vet to HoF or HoF to vet) as my brain takes so long to either put on the brakes or Rev the engine

I'm 53 and I play pretty solidly. I have made it to Championship twice and beat several Showdowns. All I can say is you have to watch the release. If the ball comes out of the pitcher hand flat it's a fastball, you have more time than you think, even if the pitch speed is 102. Just takes practice. I play in a league on HOF, those balls get there quick! You got this! If you want to lab I will help you, send me a friend request

SDS, or the section of SDS that are responsible for these gameplay decisions, definitely do not spend any significant amount of time playing the game online on at HoF level+ like we do. It’s not ageism, it’s just that simple fact alone that makes this game so problematic. The guys who spend hundreds of hours a month with the game, play thousands of games online each year, they could tell you exactly what the core issues are with gameplay, even if they didn’t posses the technical know how to code in a fix. We might not be programmers or developers, but we know MLB The Show probably better than SDS themselves do, simply because they don’t play it like hardcore gamers do. A million simulations at HQ might suggest something is working as intended, then you throw in the human factor, players tendencies to exploit any possible advantage possible and you find another flaw.

I think the fast pitch speeds are more than made up for by the insane amount of late/weak swings that drop in for hits
-
It’s the weird timing window in this years game. I’ve been a WS player every season since 16 but this year I feel like a noob again. Even in 16 where pitch speeds were fast or 19 on legend the speeds were fast but the timing was consistent so you could adjust. This year it feels like speeds aren’t as fast as 16 but the timing window is shorter.
-
Maybe try going into custom practice with the sliders turned up on legend and just warm up with that before a game. I’ll do that from time to time and then hof and legend seem pretty tame. I’m 47 by the way and hit pretty well. Made ws every season last year and both this year. Monitor helped me a ton. I picked one up before last year after only making ws once in 18. Maybe try to play with the monitor settings too.

Which monitor do you use, If you don’t mind me asking?

Since 2010, eh?

I am 26 and these pitch speeds are WAY to fast. This began last year. Now they decided to make speeds faster and add the outlier quirk. Good thinking.. I also sit a few feet away from a 60 inch tv and still can’t catch up to a fastball over 97.
Plus now it’s harder for the average player to get 300 program stars. No quick selling which helped the 3-5 time a week player. They force you to play that stupid showdown mode, which isn’t easy for bad hitters.
My created player edit doesn’t work.i had to pay for this [censored] game twice because sony messed up after I deleted it one night and I still haven’t got refunded.
I mean what a fail. Just disappointed with that game rn. I now remember why I started playing battle field again. -
They have to make them fast because of monitors and the streamers that need a “skill gap” that comes down monitor or not and who connects to the game better.
It’s unfortunate but that is where this game is at. I can play one game and smack a 98 mph and then play another and it’s just a blur. The opponents clearly aren’t throwing a 98 mph at different speeds. My connection didn’t change. It’s just who connected better.

I'm 35 and I can live with the 4 seam heat, but the sinkers are just stupid. They look like offspeed out of the hand. Whatever it is I can't read it. I actually just turned my PCI because it's too distracting for my old eyes. I'm about to go get my eyes checked out lol.
I want to play 30+ guys only lol. We need a senior circuit.

41 here, 800-900 player and make WS most if time. At first the 102 was really hard to time up. Now, I can time it up but my pci placement is awful. To be young again......
-
33 here and I struggle because I don’t have a monitor - I am always between 650-775 I haven’t got to 800 yet
-
I am 43 but pitch speeds arent an issue. I have had trouble adjusting to the timing window. That seems to be the only thing that has got tougher. But we needed the timing window change. You will eventually get used to it.

I'm 33 and I've been playing on a big screen TV. Just bought a MSI monitor for $350 and it makes a difference. 95-98MPH looks a lot slower on a monitor.
-
I think it's the glitchy sinkers that throw everything off. I'll be late on a 95 mph sinker and then early on a 99 mph 4 seamer. Sinker should be removed, or made more like a two seamer. Most people including big Leaguers can't describe the difference
-
35 here. First time can’t hit fastball consistently. Super frustrating still make ws since I play enough games. But yes let’s make an old head league. I’m with it
