Thought everyone might wanna see this

I don’t know what to make of this. It definitely seems shady… ish…
However, I don’t think they ever made the promise that those ratings were being removed. Weren’t they just stating that they aren’t used in online play? I always took that to mean that they aren’t used and determining outcomes of a play, or hit, etc.
When you create a player, those values are still there. So it’s not like they are going out of their way to hide them.
I think all they ever promised was that they were removed from the screen because they aren’t used in online. I am more than happy to be proven wrong if someone can direct me to the exact commentary on this.

Regardless of what they did and did not say, they are still making sure free cards are gilded diamonds while Chase pack cards are loaded. Case in point: 94 Harper has 125 DISC, 95 Griffey has 74. Hmmm, which one is free? And in case you say that’s a 94 to a 95 let’s pull in the Juan Soto boss card which is a 95. Juan has a 124 DISC.

I don’t disagree, but they’ve been doing that for years. I remember a post from like three years ago with some guy talking about using his own reading system to figure out what the best cards actually are because of the ratings hijinx of SDS.
-
Update: apparently a community manager reached out to him after seeing the short I originally posted - this probably means there’s no intentional manipulation going on, but, uh, they might need to take another look at the coding for the rating calculation formula (which, yes, is more power-focused than in previous years, but I doubt that’s the whole story)
-
@On_a_Power_Trip_PSN I’m not buying their explanation at all. If so, why are there different discipline ratings for these cards? Why do very similar cards with different disc have different overalls?
-
@GoozeFn_PSN I’m not buying that the formula doesn’t have those ratings at all either, to be honest with you, but if they are to be believed (the explanation was that the dev who does the attributes wanted to keep doing those ratings to maintain routine cause they’ve apparently been at it for a few years now), the ratings manipulation in question is more incompetent than shady. Which is kinda believable to me.
-
What the hell is wrong with this company? Just blatantly lying about things time and time again. It's time for someone else to get the MLB rights and try their hand at this.

“Incompetent” is the key word here. They’ve been so neglectful, it’s not that they’re idiots they’re all smart. Just stop being incompetent.
They’ve allowed broken things to exist for so long which leads one to believe they’re being purposefully stupid or just outright incompetence which I can’t wrap my head around, with Sony money

Discipline and Durability have no affect on DD overall..victor from SDS responded directly to nutzypoo about it. They are legacy attributes that only affect offline franchise and the OG Ruairi dev from SDS refuses to let them go. Overalls were "overhauled" from 25 to 26 but durability and discipline have no affect on overall rating in online DD

That or they’re hidden and just not shown. They may still be using those criteria in the background
No offense to those particular people but they work for SDS so I wouldn’t expect them to be truthful about much

I've said for years Sony doesn't need 2 different ratings between online and offline.
We don't need anyone to have 125 Contact , Power, baserunning ability or whatever attribute you choose. 99 is more than good enough IMO.Having a player with 125 Speed is akin to Nigel Tufnel with speakers ''These go to 11.''
-
SDS might still be using those attributes we can’t see in DD anymore to tweak overalls, apparently
(Source: I watched this short)
Done with this company in July. Konami baseball in July. Here we go!

If they’d make their ratings actually matter it would be cool - the problem is that it feels like
0-90 =-90 meaningless
99 = sweet spot. Why even have ratings between 0-90 if they don’t actually affect gameplay. I’ve never understood why Ricky Henderson (a true 99 speed) gets the same treatment as some Topps now guy who stole 20 bases in 2 years.
They’ve got to make their attributes mean something
And this season they just changed their menus to reflect a bunch of bar graphs and meaningless BS to distract from the fact that their attributes don’t really mean much. There’s like maybe 4 stats that matter the rest is eye candy

You can call me crazy but I swear I can feel the discipline. All year I’ve thought in my head there is no way check swings feel the same for everyone. I don’t think I’ve got a single check swing call with Ohtani. If his was high I would be pretty baffled. If Bobby Witts was low I’d feel the same.

Absolutely agree - it’s there in the background somewhere. May not show on a card but it’s there
So they just removed the discipline stat from your card but they definitely are still using it
I thought maybe they rolled it into Vision but I’ve noticed some vision guys can’t check much either. Maybe they put it in conjunction with high power guys. No clue
-
Plate Discipline is a value on every card. I can confirm that much from looking at the raw file my program fetches from the server.
Whether it is used in ratings or not is something I will let everyone else speculate on.
-
Well there you have it. They should display those stats if they’re still in use in my opinion - I ain’t as competitive as some of these others but don’t just remove the ability to see “Discipline” on card and still be using it.
More laziness from SDS I surmise, just remove the visual and see if anyone notices. Then maybe fix it 7 years later. If people complain enough, otherwise fix it in 9 years
-
I said it is there. I did not say it was actually being used. If they are using it for Franchise then maybe it is just easier to include in both the Franchise and DD rosters than to strip it out of one.
I just had ChatGPT try and come up with the formulas by analyzing all 1226 position players and it came to the conclusion that Discipline plays no real part of the ratings.
Power numbers are the most significant.
It estimates Power Numbers make up 30.9% of the score for SS on the low end and 37.1% for First basemen on the high side. Which is why guys like Ozzie, Gwynn and Carew are lower OVR cards despite have excellent contact.
It still needs to reanalyze and maybe tweak itself as it seems to be taking BR Aggression into account and that is another field that while it is in the file was supposed to not count for anything.
I might have it take another run later
-
Unfortunately, I think this is why 94 overall spotlight Elly De La Cruz has a weird speed attribute. If it weren't for this imo (in my opinion), then I think Elly would have had 99 speed. And also no wonder why this year's cards have been off.
-
@Christuffer9917_PSN it’s the defense they actually undercut/underrated - he’s been a wizard out there and you wouldn’t know from his card
