Shortly before launch it was communicated on stream that we would be removing PCI shrinkage on pitches down and away. We wanted to take the time to provide some clarity regarding that change.

For balancing purposes, the game inherently applies bonuses and penalties based on pitch type and location. For example, if a pitcher hangs a curveball, your PCI grows because in real world baseball, that is a mistake and hitters will generally punish those pitches. Similarly, if a pitcher dots a slider down and away, that pitch inherently is more difficult to hit, hence, the slight reduction in your PCI size.

Before the change, the user was penalized for both A) breaking balls moving away from the batter, and B) the pitch being located down in the strike zone. After the change, the user is only getting one of those penalties, not both. Also understand that your swing timing plays a huge role in your PCI size.

The shrinkage also helps with the high number of foul balls that users have seen in the past. PCI shrinkage and PCI enlargement remain in the game as a mechanism to maintain balance between the pitcher and the batter.

We hope this helps clarify the change and reasons behind it. As always, we appreciate your feedback.

If what was said on stream was incorrect when it was said, why wasn't it cleared up immediately?

edit because less words is easier to read and answer.

I've got no issues hitting pitches down and away...it's kinda my bread and butter this year.

@Sarge1387_PSN I think people are more aless putting up a fuss about being told one thing and getting another not the actual issue itself.

I think it’s both. A fact they lied and then failed to clarify. The distrust for SDS is at an all time high and seems to be getting worse. If they just explained things better or were more open, honest and transparent, it would go a long way.

Quite telling folks! It took SDS a full calendar month to put out this statement. Joe is merely the messenger and what he does here is tightly regulated. The problem isn't his cause. It is however directly the cause and responsibility of the SDS leadership. They either didn't know what their marketing department was doing, or were complicit in releasing conflicting information.

Either way, there is glacial speed and then there is SDS speed. Hundreds of customer observations over several weeks, and seven game updates before any authoritative statement is given. That's actually worse than the actions taken and the statements initially made. This should have been clarified within a few days.
