Lack of big legends
-
I’m 100% with you. I can’t wrap my head around not adding Ty Cobb. I think they will have around three more big ones they save for last minute. If you remember, we didn’t get Beltran and I think Gil Hodges announced till last second last year. Posey already leaked. I think we get Lincecum too. But I’m holding out for Cobb.
Clemens and Williams were enough for me last year. I’m not excited about any of these additions.

@NWOStunna_PSN where was posey leaked??
-
@borderpatrollin_XBL
He is listed as a notable player from a college in RTTS, so he might be in the game -
@NWOStunna_PSN SDS likes to exclude players for things that have nothing to do with baseball. I have a feeling that’s why Cobb’s not in.

Cobb was in the game many times.I doubt he did something in the last few years to deserve that

Ted Williams had also been in the game for a while, but was removed after 2020 and only returned last year.
It all likely comes down to not reaching a deal with the individual player or their estate. Maybe some guys sign for one year while others are inked to a multi-year deal and when those contracts are up the negotiations start over. I am sure SDS looks at data to see which Legends are universally used compared to others who don't get much love which affects their decision on who to bring back. Other times it's probably just a case where the person/estate can not come to an agreement regarding the terms.
Let's use a guy like Reggie Jackson as an example. He'd been a regular in The Show for years yet suddenly hasn't been in the game for a few years now. Perhaps he asked for more money to re-up his contract and SDS wouldn't oblige. I am sure this is the likely factor for the majority of these Legends decisions. Like most things in this world, it simply comes down to money.
-
@S_A_B_E_R_Q__PSN Sure, but he hasn’t been in the game since they’ve gone woke.
-
Yeah, I think SDS has an inaccurate picture of their actual fanbase lol. The kids won’t be putting a lot of money into this game. I’d venture to guess Ty Cobb and Joe DiMaggio are the most mentioned legends wanted in MLB 26. If one of those are being revealed soon by SDS I’ll get the deluxe digital edition. I do feel the overall slot for the live series collection hasn’t been announced and may be a big name like one of those.

I highly doubt Cobb isn't in for off the field reasons. People have largely moved on from the sensationalist nonsense about him off the field.

@Teak2112_MLBTS People have moved on, but has SDS? They ripped Pucket out of the game mid cycle the year we got him back for old allegations. No Alomar, Lofton…
-
Alomar was put on the restricted list by MLB
-
Last year they didn't reveal Beltran until the live content stream. So maybe there's a big name left.

Alomar, as already discussed, is on the permanently ineligible list.
Lofton WAS in the game, but people didn't use his card because it didn't really meet the meta. -
@SaveFarris_PSN I always thought it was weird that he didn’t get a 99 in 2022 and then was out of the game the following year. It’s just a suspicion I have. I could be wrong.

You are correct he had a 99 in 2021 but not 2022

I never understood why players wouldnt wanna be in the game or ask for exorbitant amounts of money to be included. Its a paycheck for literally doing nothing but lending your name and image.

I agree. There’s so many former MLB players/families out there that it’s common sense that a good number of them would just be genuinely happy they/their loved one would be remembered in a widely-used game. I imagine every team has beloved regional players not well-known outside that fanbase. Maybe a pitch being they’re not being above a 90 diamond card, but introduced early on, so widely used at that point. Maybe they’re in a financial position that they can’t acquire/retain more early legends, but without that transparency from SDS I’ll assume they’re not trying and listening to their fanbase. But, we’ve not seen the final product, and it’s my opinion they will still bring out at least one major early legend. A Cobb or DiMaggio would certainly bring me to the game quicker.
