I (and I'm sure @dolenz_psn ) was thrilled to see Matt Carpenter as a new Legend. I LOVE HIS CARDS.
Happy but a little shocked as he was actually in the game in 2025 as a live series player. He just was limited to a single common FA card
-
Matt Carpenter had retirement program cards in 23 and 24, they gave up in 25, and sent him from player directly to legend in 26. Its because of the college thing, but still kind of funny

Noticed that the preview for the DD stream today states its at 2pm PT. Which would be 5pm ET.
Is that correct? They're starting the stream later than normal?

@Dolenz_PSN I’m expecting an announced ARod or something like that. No they don’t have to be a switch hitter, but a guy who’s just a good hitter at unimportant positions with no speed and not a switch hitter isn’t good enough. Babe was a 2 way player. Jeter was fast and played a good SS. IMO, this would be the worst collection reward we’ve seen following arguably the best. In a year without much excitement to begin with, that would be rough.
100%
He would be the weakest LS reward in a long while.
2020: Mantle
2021: Chipper
2022: Randy Johnson
2023: Derek Jeter
2024: Babe Ruth
2025: BeltranMantle and Beltran would probably rank at the top because they were true five-tool cards across the board in CF who hit from both sides and were new to the game. Chipper wasn't too exciting as a name since he was a player most were very familiar with, but has one of the best swings in the game and was at least a switch-hitter at 3B with SS/OF eligibility. Randy Johnson is the only pitcher entry and was the most dominant starter in the game for a long while. Derek Jeter lacked the big power, but was a huge new addition to The Show and his other stats while also playing a premium position made him very viable. Babe Ruth wasn't new at all although he's always one of the most feared sluggers in the game and at least had the unique two-way feature.
Pujols would make for a fantastic NL reward, but comes up short as the overall collection card in my opinion. I guess he's technically a "new' addition. It's just that many people have used his cards for years now and pretty recently. He will mash for sure although he's just a little too one-dimensional as a power righty bat. I'm not even sure if the extra position versatility will matter much given his limited speed especially as an outfielder.
They must be really banking on the new parallel system as well since he barely eclipses 100 power facing either side which seems odd for a guy with 700 career HR.
-
Personally I don't care about the live series reward because I wont swipe or flip for it. By the time i get it it will be irrelevant (I got Beltran a week ago). I imagine way less than 50% of people get these cards in the first half of the year so Pujols wouldnt be some big deal breaker for most people on the game.
However, a good live series card is huge $ for SDS so I do find it hard to believe Pujols is the answer here. But I don't know what is. Andruw Jones, while an elite defender at a key position that they can juice up the power for, isn't going to be very exciting (and he will almost certainly have his HoF card as a mega collection midseason). Felix is a pitch, and hes no Randy Johnson.
I find it hard to believe they would have kept Rose or ARod a secret though so I really have no idea what they do.
-
I could see it being Andruw Jones too. He checks a lot of boxes and he’d be the perfect player to highlight the new reaction stats.

That has been their normal stream time for a while now. (There was one at 1pm PT/4 ET a couple of weeks back, but that was because they didn't want to overlap a worthless "State of Play" broadcast.)

I agree that his power numbers seem too low.
Beltran had 100/103 which would give him a 101 Power score this year
Pujols has 104/101 Which would gives him a 102 Power scorePujols averaged 37 HRs a year for 22 years for a total of 703
Beltran averaged 27 HRs a year for 20 years for a total of 435No way they should be that close.

Especially because his other tools (speed/defense) aren't exactly elite so it's really odd they scaled down his bat so much. Babe Ruth was the collection reward two years ago and had 125 across the board with contact/power.
Even Jeter in 23 had 99 pop against lefties.

Re-watching, I have a couple of thoughts. That probably won't get answered until Live Content week:
-
291 Legend & Flashback cards at launch (and 10 collections)
-
Only 2 XP Bosses per inning?!?

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but, they basically confirmed that the Cardinals 99 version of Pujols is either the NL or entire Live Series collection
Take a look at the screen. He's in the middle of the LS Collection screen. The AL and NL awards (still hidden) are flanking.
Pujols is 100% the MLB Collection.
0-39 in the collection?
30 Teams
6 divisions
2 leaguesWhat is the last one? Unless they count the card itself
His attributes are pretty on par with Beltran last year. Well at least the hitting attributes

There is usually a LS free agent collection as well. That's probably #39.

@dbrooks1869_XBL Maybe the FA collection is a WBC guy this year?

Who’s the top WBC player not in the MLB/MILB?
Teruaki Satō?
