I'm interested to see who they choose in the future. Taylor Swift, Metallica, and Foo Fighters have all basically said no. The pop / top 40 industry doesn't really generate mega stars like they did back with Prince / MJ. There's more of a shift toward viral online one-hit wonders (e.g. ABCDEFU). Billie Eilish and Sabrina Carpenter don't really have the resume for it yet (then again, did the Weeknd?) Any rock band past or present seems like a no.

    Who's next?

But The Weeknd had "Blinding Lights", which would have been freaking great if there was a full crowd, and Billie and Sabrina have not had a juggernaut like that song was.

That's because the music executives now have a death grip on the industry and refuse to let loose. Musical acts sign an initial contract where the vast majority of their profits are kept by the label. When they get to a point where they could negotiate a new contract on better terms, nearly all of these acts find themselves released from their contracts.

Today, the most talents acts just market their music directly online. The industry is replete with PC-based autotuning software that turns off key singers into perfect note maestros. The software is now even used on instruments. The industry would likely use AI to just artificially generate music in the future, but right now calculate the market isn't ready for that, but it's coming soon.

Still baffled at the notion of having an American perform (that sings in Spanish because its the primary language in his territory) is somehow less American than some old brit rocker.

I don't like the dude's music but he put on a great show, it was better than the game itself (not saying much)

People have been going to the opera for centuries without understanding the language. Music is a universal language. Also… who cares?

With opera, the is beautiful singing and instrumental music to listen to. With Bad Bunny, he's just chanting Spanish into a microphone. At the opera, you can understand what's going on without knowing the language, but with Spanish rap, you have no idea what's being said if you don't know Spanish

You're right I should have tuned into Kid Rock to listen to the brilliantly poetic intro to one of the songs he very badly lip synced

    Bawitdaba, da-bang, da-bang, diggy-diggy-diggy
Said the boogie, said up drop the boogie
    Bawitdaba, da-bang, da-bang, diggy-diggy-diggy
Said the boogie, said up jump the boogie

Seems like a lot of people were able to understand the story he was trying to tell just fine.

Same, although I did hear how bad of a lip syncing job Kid Rock did. To be honest, most live performances now are lip synced, Kid Rock just did a bad job of it

It was visually pretty spectacular and an obvious celebration of Puerto Rican culture.

Light years beyond Kendrick or Usher's halftimes, maybe not quite as good as Dre. Really only held back because I dont think Bad Bunny has a good vocal presence (especially when put next to Gaga and Ricky Martin in that set)

Nothing will top Prince though. that was next level.
