    A. Before SDS can put them in, they have to WANT to be in. Some players/estates don't care, while some (looking at you, Theodore Samuel Williams) ask for an exorbitant fee.

    B. You hold at least a couple legends in your back pocket because you want to have a big name every year. If your entire list was added for 2026, then who is going to be interested in purchasing 2027?

    C. I do miss some of the older players (Cobb, Hornsby, Foxx), but SDS is after all a business and if people aren't going to use the cards, then it's hard to justify the expense.

    D. So long as Rose (and Shoeless Joe. and Alomar) remain on the Permanently Ineligible list, they will not appear in MLB The Show.

    E. Red Roofer?

Stop using Nick Kurtz as an example.

I never said that he did not deserve the cards he got, or that he didn't need the 99 overall cards, I just used him as an example, with two other players, of how absurd it seems to me to have that many more cards all better than a Hall of Famer.

It was more of a argument to get the Hall of Famers to have better cards.

Bottom line is SDS pushes the modern players harder because most players of this game were born in the 2000s. They simply don’t care about the older legends. I’m an older player myself and love the older legends. My son appreciates a few of the old legends but at the end of the day he prefers the younger players that he can watch on TV. So ultimately it’s a business decision on the part of SDS and us older guys just have to live with the scraps they throw us and hope for the best.

I highly doubt that is true (that most payers were born in the 2000s)
The average age of a gamer is mid 30s, and we are probably even older than that.

I do think its fair to say though that almost all of us do follow the regular season. Topps Now, Spotlight, Pipeline, Draft, Milestone cards (even the ones that SaveFarris hates) all have their place. The current players are free too, so might as well use them. I do think they go way overboard with the prospect thing though. Pipeline is good, Draft is great. Topps Now gives call up cards, also fine. Pipeline Past is where it goes too far and then Neon came around with even more prospects.

And then there is the Willi Castro issue. A mediocre player should never have a random top 10 card in the game. My opinion is the top 10 cards should be reserved for legends and future hall of famers like Judge or Ohtani.

They also did quite a few legends dirty by putting their 99s in DQ. I like Rod Carew cards, but not playing DQ for it.

@TripleH-4481_PSN FWIW, I’m a younger player who decides to buy the game each year based on the legends. I did not initially plan to this year, but Hodges, Williams, and The Hebrew Hammer made it a no-brainier for me. I’ll be waiting for those announcements for 26 and hope to be pulled in again 🤞🏻

    @Teak2112_MLBTS

Still feel like even if the average player age of MlBTS is greater than 26 it’s not by much. All things considered I think SDS is heavily incentivized to push modern players in their game more than the true legends of the game. Plus I gotta think modern players are way cheaper to implement.

99s are certainly out of control but done so to make more cards usable.

Here is the 99 OVR total for each year since 2021

    2021: 193
    2022: 274
    2023: 494
    2024: 535
    2025: 477

There are actually 487 this year so far but I removed the 10 Ranked 1000 cards as they are simply cosmetic duplicates.

We will get a minimum of 2 more (the last Captain Blizzard), possibly 3 if they do the pre-order deal where you get that players card for the current version. So not a huge dropoff this year.

I'd be surprised if they can put that genie back in the bottle and ever go back to the pre 2023 levels without a ton of backlash.

    To complete the list:

2020: 150 (not counting the "Red" Diamonds)
    2019: 86
    2018: 22
    2017: 64

Its not the number of 99s. Its that most of those 99s are well beyond what a 99 should be.

There should be like 20 cards in the game with a 125 contact or power stat. But now .240 hitters are given 125 contact. Its so dumb.

Valid point, but how about one step further, what's the point of 125 stats when it (IMHO) feels like the stats have been nerfed this year.

Where was a Royals Beltran card?

Or a "2004 Postseason Astros" card for that matter. Actually, that card might be the best card ever. Probably too "overpowered"...

They should start a 1,000 point system. I'm all for that.

But then, a year later, they'd go to 1,250. So... never mind.

And four [censored] Allen cards all on the Phillies.

Maybe if you'd tone down your expletive-laden posts, SDS would take you seriously 😠 🤣

That was the last card during his active career. And yes, it was OVERPOWERED! It might have been 125 when everything was still max 99.

Its a simple marketing thing. guys like myself 48 years old are way outnumbered by a much younger generation. Alot of the MLBTS player base know but have no childhood memories of many of these players. Face it guys some of us are getting old, I grew up with Griffey, Johnson, Clemons. These kids are growing up with Trout, Ohtani, Cruz, Skenes. Of course they are going to market to the larger player base. I get it. Its the same argument of who's better Ohtani or Babe? Look at the age of each side. Whats the answer? If i'm running a business, i'm catering to the larger group of people. Mickey Mantle is a house hold name and so is Frank Sinatra...how many #1s did Sinatra have last year?

SDS was so close to having the big three from the late 80s and early 90s Giants (Will Clark, Matt Williams and Kevin Mitchell) and instead of getting the third guy, they lost rights to the other two... Now they are missing all three...

At the very least, we need Will Clark back....

And their cousins John Olerud, Keith Hernandez, and Mark Grace

But those player types are just not 'meta'. They had Kruk last year (aka Fat Lesser Will Clark), but he was 1 and done.

And Kevin Mitchell is an 86 Met, can't have that.

I think its hilarious that there is only one 86 Met in the game, but they released TWO cards this year of the 62 Mets

Al Kaline has a 99; wouldn't mind seeing some very classic players make appearances/combacks in the form of:

    -Tris Speaker
    -Walter Johnson
    -Ty Cobb
    -Rogers Hornsby
    -Jimmie Foxx
    -Nap Lajoie
    -Christy Matthewson
    -Roy Campanella
    -Yogi Berra
    -Yaz
    -Reggie Jackson
    -Frank Robinson
